Fe/S oxidation-coupled arsenic speciation transformation mediated by AMD enrichment culture under different pH conditions

Arsenic(As)speciation transformation in acid mine drainage(AMD)is comprehensively affected by biological and abiotic factors,such as microbially mediated Fe/S redox reactions and changes in environmental conditions(pH and oxidation-reduction potential).However,their combined impacts on arsenic speciation transformation remain poorly studied.Therefore,we explored arsenic transformation and immobilization during pyrite dissolution mediated by AMD enrichment culture under different acidic pH conditions.The results for incubation and mineralogical transformation of solid residues show that in the presence of AMD enrichment culture,pH 2.0,2.5,and 3.0 are more conducive to the formation of jarosites and ferric arsenate,which could immobilize high quantities of dissolved arsenic by adsorption and coprecipitation.The pH conditions significantly affect the initial adsorption of microbial cells to the minerals and the evolution of microbial community structure,further infuencing the biodissolution of pyrite and the release and oxidation process of Fe/S.The results of Fe/S/As speciation transformation of the solid residues show that the transformation of Fe,S,and As in solution is mainly regulated by pH and potential values,which imposed significantly different effects on the formation of secondary minerals and thus arsenic oxidation and immobilization.The above results indicated that arsenic transformation is closely related to the Fe/S oxidation associated with pyrite bio-oxidation,and this correlation is critically regulated by the pH conditions of the system.

Objective：To examine the efficacy and safety of bathing therapy with Taohong Siwu Decoction（桃红四物汤,TSD） in the treatment of early-stage,mild-moderate diffuse cutaneous systemic sclerosis（dc SSc）.Methods：This randomized,placebo-controlled trial enrolled 148 men and women（18–60 years） with dc SSc（disease duration 12 months） and baseline modified Rodnan skin score（MRSS） 10.Patients were randomized into a TSD group（71 cases bathing with TSD plus oral prednisone） or control group（71 cases bathing with placebo plus oral prednisone）.Bathing（40 ℃,30 min） of the upper and lower limbs was carried out once daily for 12 consecutive weeks.The primary outcome measure was MRSS;secondary outcomes were Raynaud＇s phenomenon（RP） score,quality of life（QOL）,physician visual analogue scale（VAS）,patient VAS,percent predicted diffusing capacity for carbon monoxide（DLCO）,percent predicted forced vital capacity（FVC）,erythrocyte sedimentation rate（ESR）,C-reactive protein（CRP） level and overall treatment effect.Results：The final analysis included 135 patients（control group,68 cases;TSD group,67 cases）.Primary and secondary outcome measures after 2 weeks of treatment showed no improvement（versus baseline） in both groups,with no differences between groups.At 12 weeks,QOL,physician VAS,patient VAS,ESR and CRP were improved in both groups,but MRSS and RP score were improved only in the TSD group（all P〈0.05）.MRSS,RP score,QOL,physician VAS,patient VAS,ESR and CRP differed significantly between groups（all P〈0.05）.Meanwhile,the overall treatment effect was significantly higher in the TSD group than in the control group（P〈0.05）.Adverse events in the two groups were similar（P〉0.05）.Conclusions：Bathing with TSD plus oral prednisone achieves better outcomes than oral prednisone alone in patients with dcS Sc and is not associated with serious adverse events.

Qinghai‒Tibet Plateau(QTP)is one of the most sensitive regions to climate change in the world.As a result,people in the QTP are more likely to be sensitively affected by climate change than those in other regions,particularly in the poverty area.Using the Universal Thermal Climate Index(UTCI)derived from ERA5 and population data,changes in annual thermal comfort condition and population under such condition in the QTP are systematically analyzed.The results reveal that there is considerable regional heterogeneity in the distribution of UTCI and the number of comfortable days(CDs),mainly due to the complex geographic features.In most areas of the QTP,the increase in UTCI leads to an increased number of comfortable days.Spatial distribution and temporal change in the number of comfortable days are found to be principally related to altitude.In areas within altitudes of 3000–4500 m,the number of comfortable days increases by up to 6 d per decade,which is faster than that in higher elevation areas above 4500 m.Results also indicate that thermal comfortable condition has improved in areas of 2500–5000 m(medium to high altitude),particularly in spring and autumn.Further research indicates that population distribution also shows a regional clustering feature,with the majority of residents residing in cities and their vicinities,where a higher number of comfortable days were observed.Most areas with a greater number of comfortable days have experienced a more significant increase in population under thermal comfortable conditions.It implies that climate change more likely has a large influence on population in the QTP.These findings are expected to enhance tourism development and the assessment of the impact on the living environment.The findings can be helpful for optimizing of tourism development and better understanding how climate change affects population distribution.

The point defects and photoluminescence(PL)spectra of gallium nitride(GaN)epilayers with Mg,Zn,and unintentional doping were investigated in this study.The concentration of point defects(Ga vacancy and its related complexes)in the Zn-doped GaN is consistent with that in the Mg-doped GaN,but lower than that in undoped GaN.It is suggested that Zn(Mg)atoms occupy Ga sites and suppress the formation of Ga vacancies.Comparing the blue luminescence(BL)band intensity of GaN:Zn with that of GaN:Mg,a factor of 10 strong PL intensity demonstrates that a moderate incorporation of Zn to GaN is likely to improve the structural quality of GaN.Detailed studies on 2.93 eV BL band for GaN:Zn reveal that the Zn related BL band behaves as a donor-acceptor pairs character.For the acceptor level,isolated Zn_(Ga)with the activation energy of 0.386 eV above the valence band is obtained from temperature-dependent PL measurements,whereas the deep donor defect responsible for the 2.93 eV band is deduced to be 164 meV below the conduction band.An O_(N)-H complex model is suggested to explain the deep donor origin.

BACKGROUND Bouveret syndrome is a rare complication of cholelithiasis,with only 315 cases reported in the literature between 1967 and 2016.Delay in diagnosis is associated with a high mortality rate.Diagnosis is based upon clinical manifestations,gastroscopy,and imaging studies such as abdominal computed tomography and magnetic resonance cholan-giopancreatography.Endoscopic stone extraction or lithotripsy is the preferred choice for treatment as it is safe and minimally invasive with few complications.However,if endoscopy fails,surgery is required.CASE SUMMARY A 61-year-old female patient presented with recurrent epigastric pain for more than 6 mo.On endoscopy,a large amount of food residue was present in the stomach with multiple stones and ulcers in the antro-pyloric region.Based on these findings,a diagnosis of gastrolithiasis was made.However,computed tomography of the abdomen revealed the correct diagnosis of Bouveret syndrome.Initially,endoscopic treatment was attempted but it failed.Later,she was successfully managed by cholecystectomy with duodenal stone extraction and fistula repair(one-step method).At the last follow-up 6 mo after surgery,the patient was symptom-free.CONCLUSION Bouveret syndrome is a rare complication of gallstones that requires prompt endoscopic or surgical treatment to prevent mortality.

基于行为金融学视角,利用2008~2017年我国A股上市公司数据,检验了管理者能力对企业未来股价崩盘风险的影响,以及在不同产权性质下管理者能力对股价崩盘风险的影响差异。研究结果表明,管理者能力和股价崩盘风险显著负相关,能力较高的管理者捂盘行为减少,所在企业崩盘风险随之降低;区分产权性质后,在非国企中上述关系更显著。进一步研究发现会计稳健性在管理者能力和崩盘风险之间起到了部分中介作用;上市公司股东和管理者的代理冲突越大,管理者能力和崩盘风险的负相关关系越强;且在有股权质押的企业中上述关系更显著。

DEAR EDITOR,During the breast-feeding period,infants undergo remarkable changes,including rapid physiological and developmental growth.However,little is known about gene expression features and sex-specific gene expression in breast-feeding infants.In this study,we sequenced 32 blood transcriptomes from 16 breast-feeding rhesus macaque(Macaca mulatta)infants and their lactating mothers.We identified 218 differentially expressed genes(DEGs)between infants and mothers,including 91 up-regulated and 127 down-regulated DEGs in the infant group.

Cardiac arrest(CA)is one of the most common causes of death.[1-3]Despite extensive studies on the management of CA,the global survival rate in adults is only approximately 7%,and 30-day survival is even less than 2%in China.[4]Some studies have shown that CA patients of cardiac and non-cardiac origin may differ in underlying diseases,clinical manifestations,and prognosis,which leads to diff erences in terms of the pathophysiological mechanism and treatment measure.[5,6]However,little is known about the risk factors in relation to the prognosis of CA across arrest etiologies.
