Floc structure and membrane fouling affected by sodium alginate interaction with Al species as model organic pollutants

Membrane filtration combined with pre-coagulation has advantages in advanced wastewater treatment. As a model of a microbial polysaccharide, research on the effect of sodium alginate(SA) on alum hydrolysis has been rare; therefore, it is necessary to gain insight into the interface interaction between SA molecules and Al species, and the role SA plays during floc formation. In this study, the interaction mechanism between SA and Al species has been investigated, by evaluating the effect of SA on floc characteristics and membrane fouling during coagulation–ultrafiltration with different Al species coagulants(AlCl3 and preformed Al13). Al 2 p X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) confirmed that the complexation of ligands and Al species strongly affects the reaction pathways for Al hydrolysis and the final nature of the flocs, as Al13 can be decomposed into octahedral precipitates when SA is added. The presence of SA can affect floc properties, which have important impacts on the characteristics of the cake layer and membrane fouling. Due to the bridging ability of SA, the floc strength increased by about 50% using Ala, which was much better than preformed Al13, with a percentage increase of only about 6%. Moreover,the recovery factor of HA-flocs was decreased from 96% to 43% with SA addition of 0.5 mg/*** was concluded that SA can affect the characteristics of the cake layer and membrane fouling through participating in the formation of primary flocs and altering the Al hydrolysis pathway.

Experimental investigation on flow asymmetry in solid entrance region of a square circulating fluidized bed

To study the influence of back feeding particles on gas-solid flow in the riser, this paper investigated the flow asymmetry in the solid entrance region of a fluidized bed by particle concentration/velocity measurements in a cold square circulating fluidized beds （CFB）. The pressure drop distribution along the riser and the saturation carrying capacity of gas for Geldart-B type particles were first analyzed. Under the condition of u0 = 4 m/s and Gs = 21 kg/（m^2 s）, the back feeding particles were found to penetrate the lean gas-solid flow near the entrance （rear） wall before reaching the opposite （front） wall, thus leading to a relatively denser region near the front wall in the bottom bed. Higher solid circulation rate （u0 =4 m/s, Gs = 33 kg/（m^2 s）） resulted in a higher particle concentration in the riser. However the back feeding particles with higher momentum increased the asymmetry of the particle concentration/velocity profile in the solid entrance region. Lower air velocity （u0 =3.2 m/s） and Gs =21 kg/（m2 s）, beyond the saturation carrying capacity of gas, induced an S-shaped axial solid distribution with a denser bottom zone. This limited the penetration of the back feeding particles and forced the flnidizing air to flow in the central region, thus leading to a higher solid holdup near the rear wall. Under the conditions of uo = 4 m/s and Gs = 21 kg/（m^2 s）, addition of coarse particles （dp= 1145 μm） into the bed made the radial distribution of solids more symmetrical.

A high quality image reconstruction method based on nonconvex decoding

Based on the results of electron probe microanalysis(EPMA)and X-ray diffraction(XRD),the isothermal sections of Zr-Ni-Ge ternary system at 973 K and 1173 K were constructed through alloy sampling *** is worth noting that the crystallographic information of the formerly reportedτ2(Zr_(0.98)NiGe_(2.94))was determined,which belongs to the space group Pbcm(No.57).Besides the formerly reported ternary compounds,τ1(Zr_(6)Ni_(16)Ge_(7)),τ_(2)(Zr_(0.98)NiGe_(2.94)),τ_(3)(Zr_(3)Ni_(4)Ge_(4)),τ_(4)(ZrNiGe)andτ_(5)(Zr_(2)Ni_(0.54)Ge_(0.46)),a new ternary phase namedτ_(6)with the composition of Zr_(39)Ni_(18)Ge_(43)was primarily detected in this *** addition,an invariant reaction Ni_(5)Ge_(3)+τ_(4)τ_(1)+τ_(3)between 973 K and 1173 K was deduced.

Exogenous melatonin alleviated growth inhibition and oxidative stress induced by drought stress in apple rootstock

Drought stress is one of the major environmental obstacles that limit the production and development of apples(Malus domestica Borkh.).The role of melatonin is well known in the protection of plants under environmental *** this study,we investigated the effect of melatonin on apple rootstock *** Rehd under drought *** results showed that drought inhibited the growth of *** and dramatically reduced root surface area,root volume,the number of tips and forks,and root ***-induced growth inhibition was significantly decreased by adding *** photosynthetic rate(Pn),intercellular CO_(2)concentration(Ci),stomatal conductance(Gs),transpiration rate(Tr),were markedly reduced under drought ***,the application of melatonin could mitigate the damage to the photosynthetic apparatus and increase the quantum yield of PSII ***,generation of hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2))and superoxide radicals(O_(2)^(•–))sharply increased in apple leaves after 4 days under drought stress,and the accumulation of electrolyte leakage(EL)represented oxidative stress,while by applying melatonin under drought stress,the generation of O_(2)^(•–)and H_(2)O_(2)were significantly reduced and protected the membrane from drought *** results suggest that the adverse effects of drought can be minimized by applying melatonin to apples.
