Heart valve diseases threaten human health. One reliable way to save lives of such patients is to replace the pathologically changed heart valves by artificial ones. Over 2.million patients have received LTI-carbon heart valve’s implantation. However, the thrombosis after the implantation is one of the difficulties that need to be solved. In order to improve the blood compatibility and security of mechanical heart valves, ion beam technology was used to modify the surface properties of the materials. The investigation results have been summarized in this paper.

Two-dimensional thermoelasticity analysis of functionally graded thick beams is presented using the state space method coupled with the technique of differential quadrature. Material properties vary continuously and smoothly through the beam thickness, leading to variable coefficients in the state equation derived from the elasticity equations. Approximate laminate model is employed to translate the state equation into the one with constant coefficients in each layer. To avoid numerical instability, joint coupling matrices are introduced according to the continuity conditions at interfaces in the approximate model. The differential quadrature procedure is applied to discretizing the beam in the axial direction to make easy the treatment of arbitrary end conditions. A simply-supported beam with exponentially varying material properties is considered to validate the present method. Numerical examples are performed to investigate the influences of relative parameters.

The SrTiO3 (001. substrates treated by chemical etching in NH4F-buffered HF solution and annealing in oxygen ambient have been studied by an atomic force microscopy (AFM). The SrTiO3 substrates with TiO2.termineted and atomically smooth surfaces and single unit cell steps have been obtained. The surface morphologies of SrTiO3 substrates strongly depend on the treated conditions and the quality of the substrates.

We generalize the algebraic method presented by Fan [***.A:***.36 (2.03) 7009)] to uniformlyconstruct a series of soliton-like solutions and double-llke periodic solutions for nonlinear partial differential equations(NPDE),As an application of the method,we choose a (2.1.-dimensional asymmetric Nizhnik-Novikov-Vesselov equa-tion and successfully construct new and more general solutions including a series of nontraveling wave and coefficientfunctions’ soliton-like solutions,double-like periodic and trigonometric-like function solutions.

An extended subequation rational expansion method is presented and used to construct some exact,analyt-ical solutions of the (2.1.-dimensional cubic nonlinear Schrdinger *** our results,many known solutionsof the (2.1.-dimensional cubic nonlinear Schrdinger equation can be recovered by means of some suitable selections ofthe arbitrary functions and arbitrary *** computer simulation,the properties of new non-travelling waveand coefficient function's soliton-like solutions,and elliptic solutions are demonstrated by some plots.

The X-ray spectra of Nb surface induced by Arq+ (q =1.,1.) ions with the energy range from 1. to 2. keV/q were studied by the optical spectrum technology. The experimental results indicate that the multi-electron excitation occurred as a highly charged Ar1.+ ion was neutralized below the metal surface. The K shell electron of Ar1.+ was excited and then de-excited cascadly to emit K X-ray. The intensity of the X-ray emitted from K shell of the hollow Ar atom decreased with the increase of projectile kinetic energy. The intensity of the X-ray emitted from L shell of the target atom Nb increased with the increase of projectile kinetic energy. The X-ray yield of Ar1.+ is three magnitude orders larger than that of Ar1.+.

The speciation of the elements on the surface of the particles collected during dust storm and non-dust storm in Beijing and Inner Mongolia was studied by XPS. The ma- jor species of iron on the surface were oxides, sulfate, silicate, FeOOH and minor part sorbed on SiO2.Al2.3. Sulfate is the dominant species of sulfur on the surface. SiO2.and Al2.3 are the main components of Si and Al on the surface respectively. One of the most important findings was that the Fe(II) (FeS and FeSO4) produced could account for up to 44.3% and 45.6% of the total Fe on the surface in the aerosol sample collected at that night and next day of the “peak” time of the dust storm occurring on March 2., 2.02. while Fe2.SO4)3, one of the Fe(III) species on the surface decreased from 67.1. to 49.5% and 48.0% respectively. Both S and Fe en- riched on the surface of aerosol particles. Fe(II) accounted for 1.3%?5.3% of total Fe in bulk aerosol samples during dust storm. These results provided strong evidence to sup- port the hypothesis of the coupling between iron and sulfur in aerosols during the long-range transport, which would have important impact on the global biogeochemical cycle.

Aim:To examine the tolerance of type 1.diabetic hearts to ischemia and *** contents of 2.-kDa and 70-kDa heat shock proteins（hsp）aswell as phosphorylated hsp2. were also ***:Hearts from hyper-glycemic rats 3 weeks after streptozocin injection and age-matched normal ratswere subjected to ischemia and reperfusion in *** function and electro-cardiogram were recorded throughout *** heat shock pro-teins were detected with Western ***:Despite depressed systolic func-tion at the baseline,diabetic hearts exhibited considerable enhancement in post-ischemic heart function,manifested by an increase in the maximal rate of leftventricular pressure rise and fall(post-ischemic dp/dtmaxand dp/dtminwere 560±1.7and-31.±68 mmHg/s in control,n=7,1.49±57 and-1.04±36 mmHg/s in diabetes,n=1.,P1..Reperfusion ventricular fibrillation in the diabetic group were at-tenuated compared with controls（1.5±0.3 vs 7.2.2.1.min in control,P1..Theincreased heart resistance to ischemia in diabetes was associated with hypergly-cemia and accompanied by enhanced expression of myocardial phosphorylatedhsp2. with normal aortic vessel *** was abrogated bymetabolic correction with insulin and accompanied by phospho-hsp2. ***:Heart resistance to ischemia is increased in type 1.diabetes,andhyperglycemia may present a mild yet stressful stimulus leading to upregulationof endogenous stress protein,which may play a potential role in cardioprotectionand compensate for detrimental effects of hyperglycemia in diabetes.

AlN/Al0.3Ga0.7N superlattices were grown on (0001. sapphire substrate by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). The superlattice period varies from 6 to 30. The layer thickness of different period stack was designed. GaN or AlGaN template was employed for growing AlN/AlGaN superlattices. Reflectivity, SEM, AFM and XRD data of the AlxGa1.xN/AlN superlattices are presented. It is found that the templates used have an intensive impact on surface roughness and interfacial properties of following AlN/AlGaN superlattices. The result of atomic force microscopy indicates that AlN/AlGaN superlattices grown on GaN template exhibit quasi-two-dimensional growth mode. The resulting superlattice has a smooth surface morphology and distinct interface. No crack is observed in the area of a 2.inch wafer.
