Prognostic significance of the preoperative hemoglobin to albumin ratio for the short-term survival of gastric cancer patients

BACKGROUND Hemoglobin and albumin are associated with the prognosis of gastric cancer(GC)patients. However, the prognostic value of the hemoglobin to albumin ratio(HAR) for the short-term survival of GC patients with D2 radical resection has not been studied.AIM To investigate the significance of the HAR in evaluating the short-term survival of GC patients after D2 radical resection and to construct a nomogram to predict the prognosis in GC patients after surgery, thus providing a reference for the development of postoperative individualized treatment and follow-up plans.METHODS Cox regression and Kaplan-Meier analysis was used for prognostic analysis.Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationships between HAR and the clinicopathological characteristics of the GC patients. A prognostic nomogram model for the short-term survival of GC patients was constructed by R software.RESULTS HAR was an independent risk factor for the short-term survival of GC patients.GC patients with a low HAR had a poor prognosis(P < 0.001). Low HAR was markedly related to high stage [odds ratio(OR) = 0.45 for Ⅱ vs Ⅰ;OR = 0.48 for Ⅲ vs Ⅰ], T classification(OR = 0.52 for T4 vs T1) and large tumor size(OR = 0.51 for ≥4 cm vs < 4 cm)(all P < 0.05). The nomogram model was based on HAR, age,CA19-9, CA125 and stage, and the C-index was 0.820.CONCLUSION Preoperative low HAR was associated with short-term survival in GC patients.The prognostic nomogram model can accurately predict the short-term survival of GC patients with D2 radical resection.

Using Homology Modeling, Molecular Dynamics and Molecular Docking Techniques to Identify Inhibitor Binding Regions of Somatostatin Receptor 1

The G protein coupled receptor（GPCR）, one of the members in the superfamily, which consists of thousands of integral membrane proteins, exerts a wide variety of physiological functions and responses to a large portion of the drug targets. The 3D structure of somatostatin receptor I（SSTR1） was modeled and refined by means of homology modeling and molecular dynamics simulation. This model was assessed by Verify-3D and Vadar, which confirmed the reliability of the refined model. The interaction between the inhibitor cysteamine, somatostatin（SST） and SSTR1 was investigated by a molecular docking program, Affinity. The binding module not only showed the crucial residues involved in the interaction, but also provided important information about the interaction between SSTR1 on the one hand and ligands on the other, which might be the significant evidence for the structure-based design.

Changes of moisture distribution and migration in fresh ear corn during storage

Understanding of moisture changes in fresh ear corn(Zea mays L.)during storage is imperative for maintaining fresh corn quality.The changes of moisture distribution and migration in fresh ear corn during storage were investigated using low-field nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).Water loss was greater than water migration in fresh ear corn within the first hour of storage;thereafter,water loss was weaker than water migration.With the extension of storage time,the signal intensity of MRI in different parts of sliced fresh corn with cob showed a downward trend,and the rate of signal intensity reduction was higher in the peripheral area than at the central part of sliced fresh corn with cob.The relative proportion of bound water increased with a concomitant drop in that of free water,when the total water content reduced in fresh ear corn under storage.In conclusion,NMR and MRI are useful and non-destructive tools for real-time monitoring of moisture distribution,migration,and loss in fresh ear corn during storage to assess its quality.These results can be used for future design of the preserving and processing conditions for fresh ear corn.

Identification of key genes controlling cancer stem cell characteristics in gastric cancer

BACKGROUND Self-renewal of gastric cancer stem cells(GCSCs)is considered to be the underlying cause of the metastasis,drug resistance,and recurrence of gastric cancer(GC).AIM To characterize the expression of stem cell-related genes in GC.METHODS RNA sequencing results and clinical data for gastric adenoma and adenocarcinoma samples were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas database,and the results of the GC mRNA expression-based stemness index(mRNAsi)were analyzed.Weighted gene coexpression network analysis was then used to find modules of interest and their key genes.Survival analysis of key genes was performed using the online tool Kaplan-Meier Plotter,and the online database Oncomine was used to assess the expression of key genes in GC.RESULTS mRNAsi was significantly upregulated in GC tissues compared to normal gastric tissues(P<0.0001).A total of 16 modules were obtained from the gene coexpression network;the brown module was most positively correlated with mRNAsi.Sixteen key genes(BUB1,BUB1 B,NCAPH,KIF14,RACGAP1,RAD54 L,TPX2,KIF15,KIF18 B,CENPF,TTK,KIF4 A,SGOL2,PLK4,XRCC2,a n d C1 orf112)were identified in the brown module.The functional and pathway enrichment analyses showed that the key genes were significantly enriched in the spindle cellular component,the sister chromatid segregation biological process,the motor activity molecular function,and the cell cycle and homologous recombination pathways.Survival analysis and Oncomine analysis revealed that the prognosis of patients with GC and the expression of three genes(RAD54 L,TPX2,and XRCC2)were consistently related.CONCLUSION Sixteen key genes are primarily associated with stem cell self-renewal and cell proliferation characteristics.RAD54 L,TPX2,and XRCC2 are the most likely therapeutic targets for inhibiting the stemness characteristics of GC cells.

探究化学修饰对木聚糖酶(XY)相对活性的影响,以XY相对活性为指标,利用丁二酸酐、乙酸酐、马来酸酐(MA)和邻苯二甲酸酐对XY进行化学修饰。采用单因素试验筛选出最优酸酐修饰剂,并进行响应面法优化酸酐修饰条件。结果表明:MA为最优修饰酸酐,最佳修饰条件为修饰温度14℃、修饰时间4h、pH7.0、MA添加量40%(以XY质量计)。在此条件下,马来酸酐修饰木聚糖酶(MA-XY)的相对活性为154.62%±1.24%。

随着食用玉米的人群越来越广泛,玉米过敏问题日渐凸显。对玉米过敏的有效防御被人们所重视,加工通过改变过敏原的蛋白结构可以使过敏原致敏性降低。其中食品加工对过敏原致敏性的研究主要集中在热处理方面;然而各种非热方法,如微波、超高压等食品加工新技术,在降低食品的致敏性方面也有广阔的应用前景。相比来说非热方法通常是有利的,它们能够保留在热处理过程中经常改变的感官特性,如营养成分和风味。本文综述了玉米过敏原研究现状,总结了玉米中的过敏原,描述了对食物进行热处理和非热处理在改变食物过敏原反应性方面的作用,并且提出多种加工方式联合使用来降低玉米过敏原致敏性的未来研究方向,为玉米过敏的防御提供参考。

Applications of mercury stable isotopes for tracing volcanism in the geologic record

Mercury(Hg)enrichments in ancient sediments have been used as a proxy of volcanism,especially large igneous province(LIP)eruptions.However,considering the existence of other potential Hg sources besides volcanoes and the diverse factors(e.g.,organic matters,clay minerals,sulfide minerals and Fe oxides)that can affect Hg sequestration,there are considerable uncertainties to simply regard sedimentary Hg anomalies as signatures of volcanic activities.Mercury stable isotopes,a promising tool for tracing the origins and transformations of Hg,have been increasingly used for determining the causes of Hg spikes and understanding the geochemical behavior of Hg in the geologic record.To date,lots of researches have applied Hg concentrations and Hg isotopes to identify LIP volcanisms linking with significant geological events such as mass extinctions,ocean anoxic events and other environmental perturbations that mainly occurred in the Phanerozoic.However,the results in previous studies clearly show that not all Hg enrichments are derived from volcanic inputs,which emphasize the need for more caution in using Hg as a fingerprint of volcanism.With a better understanding of Hg isotopes in the future,there will be important implications for Hg isotopes to reconstruct volcanic activities in the rock records and their impacts on biological evolution.

Appreciable Enhancement of Photocatalytic Performance for N-doped SrMoO_(4) via the Vapor-thermal Method

A series of nitrogen-doped SrMoO_(4) with different Sr/N mole ratio (R=0,0.05,0.10,0.15,0.20,0.40,and 0.60) were synthesized using urea as the N source via the vapor-thermal method.The photocatalytic degradation ability of all samples was evaluated using methylene blue (MB) as a target contaminant.The band gaps of N-doped samples are all higher than that of pristine ones,which is only 3.12 eV.BET specific surface area S_(BET) and pore volume are increased due to the N doping.And the greater increase of S_(BET),the faster the photodegradation speed of methylene blue on SrMoO_(4).More specifically,the degradation efficiency of MB is improved up to 87%in 100 min.

Efficacy of scraping therapy on blood pressure and sleep quality in stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ essential hypertension: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background Scraping therapy is widely used in treating stage I and II essential hypertension in China.However,there has been no systematic evaluation of the efficacy of scraping therapy on blood pressure and sleep quality in stage I and II essential hypertension.Search strategy Seven electronic databases(PubMed,Scopus,Cochrane Library,Web of Science,EBSCO,China National Knowledge Infrastructure and Wanfang Data electronic databases)were searched from inception to December 2022.Based on the principle of combining subject words with text words,the search strategy was constructed around search terms for“scraping therapy,”“scraping,”“Guasha,”“Gua sha,”“hypertension,”and“high blood pressure”during the database searches.Inclusion criteria Randomized controlled trials(RCTs)were included if they recruited patients with stage I and II essential hypertension and included a scraping therapy intervention.The intervention group received antihypertensive drugs and scraping therapy,while the control group only took antihypertensive drugs.Data extraction and analysis Review Manager 5.4.0 and STATA 15.1 were used to enter all the relevant outcome variables to conduct the meta-analysis.The quality of the selected RCTs was assessed using the PEDro scale.The sensitivity analysis was carried out by iteratively excluding individual studies and repeating the analysis to determine the stability of the findings and identify any studies with greater influence on the outcome.Subgroup analysis was performed to find the source of heterogeneity.Funnel plots were used to evaluate the publication bias of included studies.Results Nine RCTs including 765 participants were selected.Meta-analysis showed that scraping therapy combined with medication had an advantage over the use of medication alone in lowering systolic blood pressure(mean difference[MD]=?5.09,95%confidence interval[CI]=?6.50 to?3.67,P<0.001)and diastolic blood pressure(MD=?2.66,95%CI=?3.17 to?2.14,P<0.001).Subgroup analysis showed that scraping therapy improved sleep quality in mid

Non-aromatic fluorescent and multi-responsive materials,exhibiting inherent fluorescence emission and controlled phase change,have garnered significant attention in recent years.However,the underlying interaction between their fluorescent properties and phase transition remains unclear.In this study,we synthesized a series of catalyst-free aza-Michael addition-based polyethyleneimine(RFPEI)materials by reacting polyethyleneimine(PEI)with N-isopropyl acrylamide(NIPAM).The resulting RFPEI was comprehensively characterized,and demonstrated dual-phase transition behavior(LCST and UCST)in water,which could be finely tuned by adjusting its composition or external factors such as pH.Notably,upon UV irradiation(365 nm),RFPEI exhibited strong fluorescence emission.We further investigated the effects of NIPAM grafting percentage to PEI,polymer concentration,and pH on the LCST/UCST and fluorescent properties of RFPEI aqueous solutions.Moreover,we showcased the great potential of RFPEI as a versatile tool for physiological cell imaging,trace detection,and controlled release of doxorubicin.Our study presents a novel class of stimuli-responsive fluorescent materials with promising applications in the field of biomedicine.
