Endoplasmic reticulum stress and autophagy in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury:PERK as a potential target for intervention

Several studies have shown that activation of unfolded protein response and endoplasmic reticulum(ER)stress plays a crucial role in severe cerebral ischemia/reperfusion *** occurs within hours after cerebral ischemia,but the relationship between ER stress and autophagy remains *** this study,we established experimental models using oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation in PC12 cells and primary neurons to simulate cerebral ischemia/reperfusion *** found that prolongation of oxygen-glucose deprivation activated the ER stress pathway protein kinase-like endoplasmic reticulum kinase(PERK)/eukaryotic translation initiation factor 2 subunit alpha(e IF2α)-activating transcription factor 4(ATF4)-C/EBP homologous protein(CHOP),increased neuronal apoptosis,and induced ***,inhibition of ER stress using inhibitors or by si RNA knockdown of the PERK gene significantly attenuated excessive autophagy and neuronal apoptosis,indicating an interaction between autophagy and ER stress and suggesting PERK as an essential target for regulating *** autophagy with chloroquine exacerbated ER stress-induced apoptosis,indicating that normal levels of autophagy play a protective role in neuronal injury following cerebral ischemia/reperfusion *** from this study indicate that cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury can trigger neuronal ER stress and promote autophagy,and suggest that PERK is a possible target for inhibiting excessive autophagy in cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.

Hard carbon （HC） has been considered as promising anode material for sodium-ion batteries （SIBs）.The optimization of hard carbon’s microstructure and solid electrolyte interface （SEI） property are demonstrated effective in enhancing the Na+storage capability,however,a one-step regulation strategy to achieve simultaneous multi-scale structures optimization is highly ***,we have systematically investigated the effects of boron doping on hard carbon’s microstructure and interface chemistry.A variety of structure characterizations show that appropriate amount of boron doping can increase the size of closed pores via rearrangement of carbon layers with improved graphitization degree,which provides more Na+storage ***-situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy/electrochemical impedance spectroscopy （FTIR/EIS） and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS） analysis demonstrate the presence of more BC3and less B–C–O structures that result in enhanced ion diffusion kinetics and the formation of inorganic rich and robust SEI,which leads to facilitated charge transfer and excellent rate *** a result,the hard carbon anode with optimized boron doping content exhibits enhanced rate and cycling *** general,this work unravels the critical role of boron doping in optimizing the pore structure,interface chemistry and diffusion kinetics of hard carbon,which enables rational design of sodium-ion battery anode with enhanced Na+storage performance.

NO emissions from coal combustion are receiving significant attention in recent years. As a solid waste generated from metallurgical industry, metallurgical dust （MD） contains a large amount of metal oxides, such as Fe2O3, CaO, SiO2 and Al2O3, as well as other rare metal oxides. The influence of MD on the NO emissions and the mechanism of the coal com- bustion systems were analyzed. The results show that the peak values of NO emission decrease with the increase in MD mass percent, and the curve of NO emission can be divided into two stages including rapid generation （400-600 ℃） and slow release （800-900 ℃）. The reduction of NO is significantly affected by temperature, volatile components, 02 and CO. CO has a significant catalytic action which can deoxidize NO to N2. The results obtained by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy indicate that multiple components in MD, such as FegTiO15, Fe2O3 and TiO2, can react with NO to produce TiN. Besides, the alkali metals in MD, such as Na, K and Ca, may catalyze NO precursor to inhibit NO emission. These results indicate that MD is cheap and highly efficient in controlling NO emissions during coal combustion processes.

With the help of an objective reduction approach （ORA）, abundant exact solutions of （2＋1）-dimensional higher-order Boussinesq system （including some hyperboloid function solutions, trigonometric function solutions, and a rational function solution） are obtained. It is shown that some novel soliton structures, like single linearity soliton structure, breath soliton structure, single linearity y-periodic solitary wave structure, libration dromion structure, and kink-like multisoliton structure with actual physical meaning exist in the （2＋1）-dimensional higher-order Boussinesq system.

Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation(AMOC)plays a central role in long-term climate variations through its heat and freshwater transports,which can collapse under a rapid increase of greenhouse gas forcing in climate *** studies have suggested that the deviation of model parameters is one of the major factors in inducing inaccurate AMOC *** this work,with a low-resolution earth system model,the authors try to explore whether a reasonable adjustment of the key model parameter can help to re-establish the AMOC after its *** a new optimization strategy,the extra freshwater flux(FWF)parameter is determined to be the dominant one affecting the AMOC’s *** traditional ensemble optimal interpolation(EnOI)data assimilation and new machine learning methods are adopted to optimize the FWF parameter in an abrupt 4×CO_(2) forcing experiment to improve the adaptability of model parameters and accelerate the recovery of *** results show that,under an abrupt 4×CO_(2) forcing in millennial simulations,the AMOC will first collapse and then re-establish by the default FWF parameter ***,during the parameter adjustment process,the saltier and colder sea water over the North Atlantic region are the dominant factors in usefully improving the adaptability of the FWF parameter and accelerating the recovery of AMOC,according to their physical relationship with FWF on the interdecadal timescale.

Complex Wave Excitations in Generalized Broer-Kaup System

Starting from an improved projective method and a linear variable separation approach, new families of variable separation solutions （including solltary wave solutlons, periodic wave solutions and rational function solutions） with arbitrary functions [or the （2＋ 1）-dimensional general/zed Broer-Kaup （GBK） system are derived. Usually, in terms of solitary wave solutions and/or rational function solutions, one can find abundant important localized excitations. However, based on the derived periodic wave solution in this paper, we reveal some complex wave excitations in the （2＋1）-dimensional GBK system, which describe solitons moving on a periodic wave background. Some interesting evolutional properties for these solitary waves propagating on the periodic wave bactground are also briefly discussed.
