Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)battery is highly regarded as a promising next-generation energy storage device but suffers from sluggish sulfur redox *** the behavior and mechanism of the sulfur species on electrocatalytic surface is the first step to rationally introduce polysulfide electrocatalysts for kinetic promotion in a working ***,crystalline lithium sulfide(Li_(2)S)is exclusively observed on electrocatalytic surface with uniform spherical morphology while Li_(2)S on non-electrocatalytic surface is amorphous and *** characterization indicates the crystalline Li_(2)S preferentially participates in the discharge/charge process to render reduced interfacial resistance,high sulfur utilization,and activated sulfur redox ***,crystalline Li_(2)S is proposed with thermodynamic and kinetic advantages to rati on alize the superior performances of Li-S *** evoluti on of solid Li_(2)S on electrocatalytic surface not only addresses the polysulfide electrocatalysis strategy,but also inspires further investigation into the chemistry of energy-related processes.

BACKGROUND The rate of positive resection margins(R1) in patients with low rectal cancer is substantial. Recommended remedies such as extended resection or chemoradiotherapy have their own serious drawbacks. It has been reported that photodynamic therapy(PDT) as a remedial treatment for esophageal *** cancer and esophageal cancer has many similarities,however,PDT as a salvage therapy for rectal cancer is *** SUMMARY Here,we describe a 56-year-old man who was admitted to the hospital due to a 6-mo history of hemafecia,which had been aggravated for 1 mo. Colonoscopy revealed a 3 × 4 cm ulcerated mass in the rectum 4 cm from the *** pathological examination showed villous adenoma,moderate-tohigh-grade dysplasia,good differentiation,and invasion of the mucosal *** patient had R1 after ultra-low anterior resection,but he refused extended resection and experienced severe liver function impairment after 3 cycles of chemotherapy. Ultimately,the patient underwent PDT to remove R1. After five years of follow-up,there was no liver function impairment,recurrence,metastasis,sexual dysfunction,or abnormal defecation *** This is the first case worldwide in which R1 of rectal cancer were successfully treated by PDT.

Non-Smooth Morphologies of Typical Plant Leaf Surfaces and Their Anti-Adhesion Effects

The micromorphologies of surfaces of several typical plant leaves were investigated by scanning electron microscopy（SEM）. Different non-smooth surface characteristics were described and classified. The hydrophobicity and anti-adhesion of non-smooth leaf surfaces were quantitatively measured. Results show that the morphology of epidermal cells and the morphology and distribution density of epicuticular wax directly affect the hydrophobicity and anti-adhesion. The surface with uniformly distributed convex units shows the best anti-adhesion, and the surface with regularly arranged trellis units displays better anti-adhesion. In contrast, the surface with randomly distributed hair units performs relatively bad anti-adheslon. The hydrophobic models of papilla-ciliary and fold-setal non-smooth surfaces were set up to determine the impacts of geometric parameters on the hydrophobicity. This study may provide an insight into surface machine molding and apparent morphology design for biomimetics engineering.

Eco-hydrological processes in arid areas are the focus of many hydrological and water resources studies. However, the hydrological cycle and the ecological system have usually been considered separately in most previous studies, and the correlation between the two has not been fully understood. Interdisciplinary research on eco-hydrological processes using multidisciplinary knowledge has been insufficient. In order to quantitatively analyze and evaluate the interaction between the ecosystem and the hydrological cycle, a new kind of eco-hydrological model, the ecology module for a grid-based integrated surface and groundwater model(Eco-GISMOD), is proposed with a two-way coupling approach,which combines the ecological model(EPIC) and hydrological model(GISMOD) by considering water exchange in the soil layer. Water interaction between different soil layers is simply described through a generalized physical process in various situations. A special method was used to simulate the water exchange between plants and the soil layer, taking into account precipitation, evapotranspiration, infiltration, soil water replenishment, and root water uptake. In order to evaluate the system performance, the Heihe River Basin in northwestern China was selected for a case study. The results show that forests and crops were generally growing well with sufficient water supply, but water shortages,especially in the summer, inhibited the growth of grass and caused grass degradation. This demonstrates that water requirements and water consumption for different kinds of vegetation can be estimated by considering the water-supply rules of Eco-GISMOD, which will be helpful for the planning and management of water resources in the future.

The potential application of high-capacity Sn_(4)P_(3)anode for potassium-ion batteries(PIBs)is hindered by the poor cycle stability mainly rooted from the huge volume changes upon cycling and low electronic *** address the above issues,sandwich-like struc-tured Sn_(4)P_(3)/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)was designed and synthesized as anode material for *** a result,Sn_(4)P_(3)/Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)pre-sents superior cycle stability(retains a capacity of 103.2 mAh·g^(-1)even after 300 cycles at 1000 mA·g^(-1))and rate capability(delivers 60.7 mAh·g^(-1)at high current density of 2000 mA·g^(-1)).The excellent electrochemical perfor-mance of sandwich-like structured Sn_(4)P_(3)/Ti_(3)C_(2)Tx is orig-inated from the synergistic effect between Sn_(4)P_(3)and Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x),where Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)acts as a conductive matrix to facilitate electron transfer and buffer the volume change of Sn_(4)P_(3)particles upon cycling,while Sn_(4)P_(3)serves as pillars to prevent the collapse and stacking of Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)***,significant capacitive contribution is demonstrated as a major contributor to the excellent rate capability.
