Protective effects of carnosine on white matter damage induced by chronic cerebral hypoperfusion

Carnosine is a dipeptide that scavenges free radicals, inhibits infammation in the central nervous system, and protects against ischemic and hypoxic brain damage through its anti-oxidative and anti-apoptotic actions. Therefore, we hypothesized that carnosine would also protect against white matter damage caused by subcortical ischemic injury. White matter damage was induced by right unilateral common carotid artery occlusion in mice. The animals were treated with 200, 500 or 750 mg/kg carnosine by intraperitoneal injection 30 minutes before injury and every other day after injury. Then, 37 days later, Klfiver-Barrera staining, toluidine blue staining and immunofluorescence stain- ing were performed. Carnosine （200, 500 mg/kg） substantially reduced damage to the white matter in the corpus callosum, internal capsule and optic tract, and it rescued expression of myelin basic protein, and alleviated the loss of oligodendrocytes. However, carnosine at the higher dose of 750 mg/kg did not have the same effects as the 200 and 500 mg/kg doses. These findings show that carnosine, at a particular dose range, protects against white matter damage caused by chronic cerebral ischemia in mice, likely by reducing oligodendroglial cell loss.

The oxidation behavior of the Al CoCrFeNiYTa_(x)high entropy alloy(HEA)doped with different Ta contents at 1100℃is *** this study,different reasons for the spallation of the oxide scales of HEAs without/with excessive Ta addition after 1000 h of oxidation are discussed,and the most suitable Ta doping content for this HEA is explored,in which the HEA exhibits both an exceptionally low oxidation rate,and the formation of oxide scales composed of intact a-Al_(2)O_(3).Meanwhile,it is found that the addition of Ta can effectively inhibit the phase transition of β phase,which makes the surface of the oxide scale *** combining our experimental results with Wagner–Hauffe theory,the influence of Ta drag effect on oxide scale growth is explained,which provides some theoretical guidance for the subsequent design of AlCoCrFeNi HEAs,and can lead to the development of thermal barrier coatings at higher service temperature.

The direct conversion of ethanol to 1,1-diethoxyethane(DEE)through one-pot dehydrogenation-acetalization has attracted broad interest from both academia and *** on thermodynamics,the oxidative dehydrogenation of alcohol to acetaldehyde requires high temperature to activate oxygen to realize the C-H cleavage,while the acetalization of acetaldehyde with ethanol is exothermic reversible reaction favorable at low *** mismatching of the reaction condition for the two consecutive steps makes it a great challenge to achieve both high ethanol conversion and high DEE *** work reports a highly efficient bi-functional catalysis by Bi/BiCeO_(x)for one-pot oxidative dehydrogenation-acetalization route from ethanol to DEE under 150℃and ambient pressure,affording a selectivity of 98.5%±0.5%to DEE at an ethanol conversion of 87.0%±1.0%.An efficient tandem catalysis has been achieved on the interfacial Bi^(δ)+-Ov-Ce^(III)sites in Bi/BiCeO_(x)established by strong metal-support interaction,in which Biδ+-Ov-sites contribute to the oxidative dehydrogenation of ethanol at mild temperature,and-Ov-CeIII sites to the subsequent acetalization between the generated acetaldehyde and ethanol.

To reveal the mechanism of ferrite nucleation induced by Y_(2)O_(2)S inclusion in steel,the work of adhesion,interfacial energy,structure stability and electronic properties of Fe(111)/YY_(2)O_(2)S(001)interfaces with various terminations were first investigated using the first-principles ***,the steels with and without yttrium were prepared,while the rare earth yttrium-based inclusions in low carbon steel were characterized using an electron probe micro-analyzer,and the grain size of steel was analyzed using a scanning electron microscope with electron backscattered *** results show that the bonding strength of Fe/Y_(2)O_(2)S interfaces with S-and Y-terminations is stronger than that of the interface with *** Fe-hcp-S interfaces with S-termination have the highest work of adhesion(4.01 J/m2)and the lowest interface distance(1.323A).The Fe-hcp-S interface exhibits the highest stability,and its interfacial bonding force is mainly attributed to the strong hybridization of Fe-3d and S-2p orbitals in the energy range of-7.5-0 ***,the interfacial energy of Fe-hcp-S is substantially lower than those of the ferrite(s)/Fe(L)interface and the ferrite-austenite interface,suggesting that Y_(2)O_(2)S inclusions in steel can efficiently promote ferrite *** experimental observations demonstrate that the ferrite grain size of steel containing 0.03 wt.% Y is much more refined than that of the steel without yttrium,and the average grain size of steel with and without Y is 102 and 258μm,*** indicates that the results of our calculations match with experimental findings.

For the anti-interference/denoise purpose,it usually requires minimizing the sidelobe level(SLL)of a wide-beam pattern with a desired low nulling level(NL)in the nulling *** realize such an objective,the shaped-beam pattern synthesis(SBPS)is the most commonly used ***,since the SBPS problem focuses on synthesizing a predetermined beam shape,the minimum SLL via this approach cannot ensure to obtain the maximum power ***,it cannot obtain the lowest SLL with a certain power gain *** on such consideration,this paper tries to further minimize SLL of a wide-beam pattern with a desired low NL nulling region,by solving the power gain pattern synthesis(PGPS)*** PGPS problem selects the array excitation by directly optimizing the power ***,it has the potential to reduce SLL,when achieving the equal mainlobe power gain constraint via *** iterative algorithm which converts the primal optimization problem into convex sub-problems is proposed,resulting in an effective problem-solving *** simulations demonstrate the proposed algorithm can obtain about 10-dB lower SLL than the existing algorithms.

Considering dynamical disease spreading network consisting of moving individuals,a new double-layer network is constructed,one where the information dissemination process takes place and the other where the dynamics of disease spreading *** the basis of Markov chains theory,a new model characterizing the coupled dynamics between information dissemination and disease spreading in populations of moving agents is established and corresponding state probability equations are formulated to describe the probability in each state of every node at each *** Carlo simulations are performed to characterize the interaction process between information and disease spreading and investigate factors that influence spreading *** results show that the increasing of information transmission rate can reduce the scale of disease spreading in some *** infection period and strengthening consciousness for self-protection by decreasing individual’s scope of activity both can effectively reduce the final refractory density for the disease but have less effect on the information *** addition,the increasing of vaccination rate or decreasing of long-range travel can also reduce the scale of disease spreading.

In this note, we prove that the efficient solution set for a vector optimization problem with a continuous, star cone-quasiconvex objective mapping is connected under the assumption that the ordering cone is a D-cone. A D-cone includes any closed convex pointed cones in a normed space which admits strictly positive continuous linear functionals.

A competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was developed to determine ruscogenin(RUS) by using the monoclonal antibody(McAb). The monoclonal antibody against RUS, secreted from the established hybridoma cell lines, was identified as being of the IgG1 isotype. The McAb exhibited high specificity to RUS, showing a very slight cross reactivity with diosgenin(15.7%), and no cross-reactivity to sarsasapogenin, diammonium glycyrrhizinate, oleanolic acid and notoginsenoside R1. The established ELISA, at an IC50 value of 157.55 ***-1 and a detection limit(IC20) of 20.57 ***-1, was compared with HPLC analyses, and a good correlation between ELISA and HPLC-ELSD analyses of RUS in the extract of Radix Ophiopogonis was obtained. The experimental data indicated that the ELISA method exhibits more advantages over HPLC-ELSD, such as low detection limit, high specificity, low background, and no requirement for sample pre-treatment, and is more suitable for the determination of natural components in Chinese traditional medicines and in biological samples for pharmacokinetic studies.
