Electroacupuncture alleviates cerebral ischemia and reperfusion injury via modulation of the ERK1/2 signaling pathway

Electroacupuncture（EA） has anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory actions,but whether the neuroprotective effect of EA against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion（I/R） injury involves modulation of the extracellular regulated kinase 1/2（ERK1/2） signaling pathway is *** cerebral artery occlusion（MCAO） was performed in Sprague-Dawley rats for 2 hours followed by reperfusion for 24 hours.A 30-minute period of EA stimulation was applied to both Baihui（DU20） and Dazhui（DU14） acupoints in each rat（10 mm EA penetration depth,continuous wave with a frequency of 3 Hz,and a current intensity of 1–3 m A） when reperfusion was *** significantly reduced infarct volume,alleviated neuronal injury,and improved neurological function in rats with ***,high m RNA expression of Bax and low m RNA expression of Bcl-2 induced by MCAO was prevented by *** substantially restored total glutathione reductase（GR）,glutathione（GSH） and glutathione peroxidase（GSH-Px） ***,Nrf2 and glutamylcysteine synthetase（GCS） expression levels were markedly increased by ***,the neuroprotective effects of EA were attenuated when ERK1/2 activity was blocked by PD98059（a specific MEK inhibitor）.Collectively,our findings indicate that activation of the ERK1/2 signaling pathway contributes to the neuroprotective effects of *** study provides a better understanding of the regulatory mechanisms underlying the therapeutic effectiveness of EA.

Dear editor,The presence of jamming can drastically degrade the detection performance of a radar system [1]. Dense false target jamming is a paramount type of deceptive jamming, which is employed to counter pulse compression radar [2]. The jamming signal is obtained by storing and transmitting the radiated signal, and it produces a large number of false targets that are similar to target signals at the radar receiver [3].

Conventionally,organic radicals adhere to the Aufbau principle,the energy level of the singly occupied molecular orbital(SOMO)is not below the highest occupied molecular orbital(HOMO),but somewhat abnormal phenomena have appeared *** this study,we introduce a novel strategy by incorporating unique NHC-Au-X units into a tris(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)methyl(TTM)system to create metal-involved open-shell complexes,denoted as TTM-NHC-Au-X(X=I,Br,or Cl).Density-functional theory calculations were used to predict an inversion in the energy of the SOMO and highest doubly occupied molecular orbital(HOMO)of TTM-NHC-Au-I,which is supported by experimental *** radicals TTM-NHC-Au-X demonstrated distinct properties with different coordinated *** radical behaviors have been investigated by EPR,UV-vis spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry,additional structural information provided by structurally comparing related the precursor complexes given by X-ray ***-NHC-Au-I with SOMO-HOMO conversion(SHC)features a highly thermal decomposition temperature up to 305℃.Furthermore,the photostability of TTM-NHC-Au-I was found to be 75and 23 times greater than that of TTM-NHC-Au-Br and TTM-NHC-Au-Cl,*** findings provide valuable insights into the structural and electronic design principles governing the occurrence of SOMO-HOMO conversion in open-shell systems.

Effects of experimental warming on soil microbial communities in two contrasting subalpine forest ecosystems,eastern Tibetan Plateau,China

Soil microbial communities are primarily regulated by environmental temperature. Our study investigated the effects of global warming on soil microbial community composition as measured via phospholipid fatty acid （PLFA） analysis and soil chemical characteristics in relation to soil depth in a dragon spruce plantation and a spruce-fir-dominated natural forestin the Eastern Tibetan Plateau. Opentop chambers were utilized to increase the soil and air temperature. Soil samples were collected from the o-10 cm, 10-20cm, and 20-30 cm layers after a 4-year warming. Our results showed that the soil microbial community and the contents of TC （Total carbon）, TN （Total nitrogen）. NO3-. and NH4＋ responded differently to warming in the two contrasting forests, especially at the 0-10 cm soil depth. Warming increased soil microbial biomass at the 0-20 cm depth of soil in natural forest but reduced it at the o-lo cm depth ofsoil in the plantation. In contrast, the TC and TN contents were reduced in most soil layers of a natural forest but increased in all of the soil layers of the plantation under warming conditions. This result suggested that the effects of warming on soil microbial community and soil C and N pools would differ according to soil depth and forest types; thus, the two contrasting forests would under go differing changes following the future climate warming in this region.

Dear Editor,Taisui(太岁) has attracted great attention in China because it has been described in ancient Chinese texts as an entity possessing mysterious properties. In Chinese mythology and folklore, Jupiter is the God of the "Sui"(year) and is worshiped in Daoism. Jupiter appears at the same location in the sky approximately every 12 years(Jupiter’s orbit is11.86 years). However, since each cycle of Jupiter lasts for exactly 11.86 years and one Chinese year cycle comprises exactly 12 years, after approximately 84.7 years, Jupiter travels one cycle more than the number of cycles assumed by the ancient Chinese, which is called Taisui. According to the belief of the ancient Chinese, people are alerted when Taisui is digging in the ground, foretelling the destruction of houses or occurrence of natural disasters, such as floods and earthquakes(Zhao et al., 2018).

Mechanical properties and energy evolution of Beishan shallow-layer granite under different unloading paths

Rock has mechanical characteristics and a fracture damage mechanism that are closely related to its loading history and loading path. The mechanical properties, fracture damage features, acoustic emission(AE) characteristics, and strain energy evolution of the Beishan shallow-layer granite used in triaxial unloading tests were investigated in this study. Three groups of triaxial tests, namely, conventional triaxial compression test(Group Ⅰ), maintaining deviatoric stress synchronously unloading confining pressure test(Group Ⅱ), and loading axial pressure synchronously unloading confining pressure test(Group Ⅲ), were carried out for the cylindrical granite specimens. AE monitoring device was utilized in these tests to determine the degree to which the AE waves and AE events reflected the degree of rock damage. In addition, the crack stress thresholds of the specimens were determined by volumetric strain method and AE parameter method, and strain energy evolution of the rock was explored in different damage stages. The results show that the shallow-layer granite experiences brittle failure during the triaxial loading test and unloading test, and the rock has a greater damage degree during the unloading test. The crack stress thresholds of these samples vary greatly between tests, but the threshold ratios of all samples are similar in the same crack damage stage. The Mogi-Coulomb strength criterion can better describe the unloading failure strength of the rock. The evolution of the AE parameter characteristics and strain energy differs between the specimens used in different stress path tests. The dissipative strain energy is the largest in Group Ⅱ and the smallest in Group Ⅰ.

Contribution of Root Respiration to Total Soil Respiration in a Betula ermanii-Dark Coniferous Forest Ecotone of the Changbai Mountains, China

Total and root-severed soil respiration rates for five plots set up 50 m apart in a Betula ermanii Cham.-dark coniferous forest ecotone on a north-facing slope of the Changbai Mountains, China, were measured to evaluate the seasonal variations of soil respiration, to assess the effect of soil temperature and water content on soil respiration, and to estimate the relative contributions of root respiration to the total soil respiration. PVC cylinders in each of 5 forest types of a B. ermanii-dark coniferous forest ecotone were used to measure soil respirations both inside and outside of the cylinders. The contribution of roots to the total soil respiration rates ranged from 12.5% to 54.6%. The mean contribution of roots for the different plots varied with the season, increasing from 32.5% on June 26 to 36.6% on August 3 and to 41.8% on October 14. In addition, there existed a significant (P < 0.01) logarithmic relationship between total soil respiration rate and soil temperature at 5 cm soil depth. Also, a similar trend was observed for the soil respiration and soil water content at the surface (0-5 cm) during the same period of time.

MicroRNA Expression Signature in Gastric Cancer

Objective： To identify the miRNA specific signature as novel diagnostic and prognostic tools for gastric cancer. Methods： miRNAs expression profiling of 3 normal gastric tissues, 24 malignant tissues, gastric cancer cell SGC7901 and normal gastric cell GES-1 were detected using microarray technology. The hierarchical clustering algorithm of the Cluster software was used to analyse the miRNAs expression of all samples. The expression levels of miR-433 and miR-9 which were significantly down-regulated in gastric cancer tissues and SGC7901 cells by microarray technology were validated by quantitative Real-time PCR （qRT-PCR）. Results： Differential expressions of 26 individual miRNAs between normal samples （including 3 normal gastric tissues and GES-1 cells） and carcinomas （including 24 malignant tissues and SGC7901 cells） were discovered, 19 of them showing down-regulation and 7 up-regulation in carcinoma samples. Hierarchical clustering of the Cancer samples by their miRNA expression accurately separated the carcinomas from normal samples and further their histotypes of carcinomas. The expression levels of miR-433 and miR-9 were significantly down-regulated in gastric cancer tissues and SGC7901cells Conclusion： The differential expression of miR-433 and miR-9 may be used as a novel diagnostic tool for gastric cancer.

Using lateral phase change random access memory(PCRAM)for demonstration,we report a self-aligned process to fabricate a metal electrode-quantum dot(QD)/nanowire(NW)-metal electrode *** to the good confinement and coupling between the Ge_(2)Sb_(2)Te_(5)(GST)QD and the tungsten electrodes,the device shows a threshold current and voltage as small as 2.50μA and 1.08 V,*** process is highlighted with good controllability and repeatability with 100%yield,making it a promising fabrication process for nanoelectronics.

Expression and purification of bioactive high-purity human midkine in Escherichia coli

Midkine is a heparin-binding growth factor, which plays important roles in the regulation of cell growth and differentiation. The non-tagged recombinant human midkine （rhMK） is therefore required to facilitate its functional studies of this important growth factor. In the present work, rhMK was expressed in Escherichia coli （E. coli） BL21 （DE3）. The expression of midkine was efficiently induced by isopropyl-13-D-thiogalactopyranoside （IPTG）. After sonication, midkine was recovered in an insoluble form, and was dissolved in guanidine hydrochloride buffer. Renaturation of the denatured protein was carried out in the defined protein refolding buffer, and the refolded protein was purified using S-Sepharose ion-exchange chromatography. The final preparation of the rhMK was greater than 98% pure as measured by sodium dodecylsulfate-polyacrylamid gel electrophoresis （SDS-PAGE） and reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography （RP-HPLC）. The purified rhMK enhanced the proliferation of NIH3T3 cells.
