Sedum alfredii Hance, a newly discovered hyperaccumulator, could serve as a good material for phytoremediation of Cd polluted sites. Malondialdehyde （MDA）, reactive oxygen species （ROS） and antioxidases （catalase （CAT）; superoxide dismutase （SOD）; peroxidase （POD）） in the leaf were determined when S. alfredii was treated for 15 d with various CdC12 concentrations ranging from 0 to 800 μmol/L. The results showed that the production rate of 2＇,7＇-dichlorofluorescein （DCF）, which is an indicator of ROS level, reached up to the maximum at 400 μmol/L CdCl2 and then declined with the increase of CdCl2 concentration, while MDA accumulation tended to increase. CAT activity was significantly inhibited at all tested CdCl2 concentrations and SOD activity was sharply suppressed at 800 μmol/L CdCl2. However, the enhancement of POD activity was observed when CdCl2 concentration was higher than 400 μmol/L. In addition, its activity increased when treated with 600 μmol/L CdCl2 for more than 5 d. When sodium benzoate, a free radical scavenger, was added, S. alfredii was a little more sensitive to Cd toxicity than that exposed to Cd alone, and the Cd accumulation tended to decline with the increase of sodium benzoate concentration. It came to the conclusions that POD played an important role during Cd hyperaccumulation, and the accumulation of ROS induced by Cd treatment might be involved in Cd hyperaccumulation.

The crevice corrosion of the reinforcing steel in the carbonated simulated concrete pore solutions(SCPSs)containing 0.04 mol/L chloride was *** comparison,the steel without crevice covered on its surface was also *** showed that the crevice corrosion in the uncarbonated SCPS was not triggered and the steel remained passivity by suppressing the anodic dissolution in the crevice *** SCPS was carbonated to have pH values of 10.5 and 11.5,the crevice corrosion was easier to be activated than the widely reported pitting corrosion owing to the rapid oxygen depletion within the crevice,but the crevice corrosion damage might be alleviated to a certain extent due to the relative compact surface film formed inside the *** further carbonation led to the activation dissolution of both the crevice interior and exterior,causing the more serious corrosion *** process of the crevice corrosion was systematically analyzed by combining the electrochemical measurement results and Evens polarization diagram.

Realizing the valley Hall effect by breaking the spatial inversion symmetry of photonic systems has become a cutting-edge field of micro-nano-optics, since the valley degree of freedom was introduced into photonic system. Various novel devices based on the domain walls of the valley photonic crystals have also been demonstrated. In this article,we investigate the variation of edge states by the modulation of refractive index within the domain walls, and the geometric difference between the dielectric columns of the sublattices. Straight photonic crystal waveguides with three types of domain walls (bearded, zigzag, armchair) are constructed. Simulation results show that the creation of a double-edge state in the band diagram results in two windows of stable transmission in tunable bands. Our findings might have significant implications in the field of novel optical devices.

Ensuring the safety and performance of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)is a significant challenge for electric *** tackle this issue,an innovative liquid-immersed battery thermal management system(LIBTMS)using bionic baffles with fish-like perforations is *** thermal-flow-electric coupling characteristics of LIBTMSs with different baffle structures(no baffle,conventional baffle,baffle with circular perforations and baffle with fish-like perforations)are systematically investigated using experimental and numerical *** results indicate that the forced flow scheme exhibits better thermal management performance and voltage equalization than static ***,the LIB temperatures and voltage deviations of different LIBTMSs increase quickly with increasing discharge *** importantly,the innovative LIBTMS exhibits the best thermoelectric performance due to its excellent thermoelectric equilibrium behavior caused by high electrical and temperature consistency,as well as the best overall performance involving the balance between the pressure loss and heat transfer capacity of the *** with other structures,the innovative LIBTMS using baffles with fish-like perforations exhibits a maximum reduction of 10.1%,15.2%,25.8%and 9.0%in LIB maximum temperature,maximum temperature difference,system pressure drop and voltage deviation,respectively,under the same operating ***,for the LIBTMS using baffles with fish-like perforations,the bottom inlet and top outlet configuration and coolant precooling are suggested to enhance cooling performance.

The buried heterointerface of perovskite solar cells(PSCs)suffers from serious nonradiative recombination and ultraviolet(UV)light stress,relentlessly limiting further increase in their power conversion efficiency and operational ***,we develop an emerging strategy of incorporating a thin UV-activated tautomeric transition layer onto underlying charge transport layer and then depositing perovskite layer to construct an efficient hole-selective buried *** is revealed that the UV-activated tautomeric transition interlayer not only improves upper perovskite crystallinity,diminishes thermionic loss for collecting hole and passivates defect site at such buried contact that significantly promote charge transport and suppress nonradiative recombination,but also effectively protects adjacent perovskite from UV degradation through“UV sunscreen”*** a result,we report a remarkably enhanced efficiency of 24.76%compared to 22.02%of the control *** importantly,the achieved high-efficiency PSC features excellent resistance against UV radiation at 365 nm of 100 and 850 mW cm^(−2),which are approximately 21 and 184 times of UV flux(4.6 mW cm^(−2))under AM 1.5G solar *** work provides a promising approach of strengthening buried heterointerface for simultaneous realization of highly efficient and UV robust PSCs.

The ocean serves as a repository for various types of artificial ***(NPs)and nano zinc oxide(nZnO),which are frequently employed in personal care products and food packaging materials,are likely simultaneously released and eventually into the ocean with surface ***,their mutual influence and shared destiny in marine environment cannot be *** study examined how nanomaterials interacted and transported through sea sand in various salinity *** showed that NPs remained dispersed in brine,while nZnO formed *** seawater of 35 practical salinity units(PSU),nZnO formed heteroaggregates with NPs,inhibiting NPs mobility and decreasing the recovered mass percentage(Meff)from 24.52%to 12.65%.In 3.5 PSU brackish water,nZnO did not significantly aggregate with NPs,and thus barely affected their ***,NPs greatly enhanced nZnO transport with Meff increasing from 14.20%to 25.08%,attributed to the carrier effect of higher mobility *** from brackishwater to seawater was simulated in salinity change experiments and revealed a critical salinity threshold of 10.4 PSU,below which the mobility of NPs was not affected by coexisting nZnO and above which nZnO strongly inhibited NP *** study highlights the importance of considering the mutual influence and shared destiny of artificial nanoparticles in the marine environment and how their interaction and cotransport are dependent on changes in seawater salinity.

BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)has become a growing health concern *** invasion and high tumor burden are key factors limiting the curative effect of selective internal radiation therapy(SIRT).CASE SUMMARY This case study reports a 49-year-old woman who was diagnosed with China Liver Cancer Staging(CNLC)IIIa HCC and>15 cm tumor ***,due to insufficient future liver remnant and vascular invasion,the tumor was unresectable;however,radical hepatectomy was performed after successful conversion therapy with SIRT using yttrium-90(90Y)resin microspheres followed by hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy(HAIC)with tyrosine kinase inhibitor(TKI)and anti-programmed death-1(PD-1)*** using 90Y resin microspheres was given by the right hepatic artery and chemoembolization was simultaneously performed in the tumor’s feeding vessels from the right diaphragmatic *** was followed every three weeks with lenvatinib and *** 4 months post-SIRT,the tumor was downstaged to CNLC Ib and the patient successfully underwent *** histopathological examination of the resected specimen showed extensive *** This case study provides evidence for an integrated treatment strategy combining SIRT and HAIC with TKI and anti-PD-1 antibodies for patients with large HCC and microvascular *** confirmatory trials are required in the future.
