Objective To determine whether elevated serum uric acid(UA)levels are associated with type 2 diabetes diagnosed using Hb A1 c levels among Chinese *** We conducted two population-based cross-sectional studies in qingdao in China in 2006 and 2009.A total of 6894(39.4% men)subjects aged 35-74 years were included in the data *** diagnosed diabetes was defined as Hb A1 c level of ≥6.5%,and prediabetes was classified as Hb A1 c level between 5.7% and 6.4% according to the International Diabetes Federation *** logistic regression was employed to assess the association between UA and prevalence of type 2 diabetes defined using Glycated hemoglobin A1c(Hb A1 c *** Subjects with prediabetes had higher UA levels than those with normal glucose tolerance,newly diagnosed diabetes,and known diabetes,with corresponding values of 325.1(82.5)μmol/L,310.9(84.2)μmol/L,291.3(81.7)μmol/L,305.2(83.6)μmol/L,respectively(P<0.001 for all comparisons).Binary logistic regression analysis showed that UA was a possible predictor for the prevalence of type 2 diabetes diagnosed using Hb A1 c levels,and the second quartile of UA levels had a higher odds ratio(OR:4.088;95% CI:2.900-5.765)for Hb A1 c than the other quartiles after adjusting for age,body mass index,sex,marital status,education,income,alcohol consumption,smoking,and cardiometabolic *** Serum UA is significantly associated with type 2 diabetes diagnosed using Hb A1 c levels,independent of other cardiometabolic parameters.

Corrosion behavior of low alloy steels in a wet–dry acid humid environment

The corrosion behavior of corrosion resistant steel（CRS） in a simulated wet–dry acid humid environment was investigated and compared with carbon steel（CS） using corrosion loss, polarization curves, X-ray diffraction（XRD）, scanning electron microscopy（SEM）, electron probe micro-analysis（EPMA）, N2 adsorption, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy（XPS）. The results show that the corrosion kinetics of both steels were closely related to the composition and compactness of the rust, and the electrochemical properties of rusted steel. Small amounts of Cu, Cr, and Ni in CRS increased the amount of amorphous phases and decreased the content of γ-Fe OOH in the rust, resulting in higher compactness and electrochemical stability of the CRS rust. The elements Cu, Cr, and Ni were uniformly distributed in the CRS rust and formed CuFeO2, Cu2O, CrOOH, NiFe2O4, and Ni2O3, which enhanced the corrosion resistance of CRS in the wet–dry acid humid environment.

AIM To investigate clinic effects of Fuzheng Huayu 319 recipe (319 recipe) on liver fibrosis in chronic hepatitis *** Ninety-five patients with chronic hepatitis B were divide into the treated (63 cases) and control (32 cases) group, and orally administrated with 0.5g 319 capsule or 0.5g Dahuang Zhachong pill tid for 3 months, respectively. The liver functions and serological fibrotic markers were observed before and after treatment, 12 cases in the treated group were examined with liver *** Three hundreds nineteen recipe could remarkably decreased serum ALT level and total bilirubin and significantly improve serum albumin and A/G ratio. Its effects were better than Dahuang Zhachong pill. Before treatment, patients' serum monamine oxidase activities, tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP)-1, procollagen type Ⅲ and laminin were all higher than those of health peoples. These levels decreased remarkably after treatment, and urine hydroxyproline level increased significantly (P＜0.001-0.05). Compared with the control, the improvement in treated group was better than that in the control except TIMP-1. According to the scoring system for staging of chronic hepatitis, the fibrotic extents of 7 cases among 12 cases examined by liver biopsy decreased remarkably (1 case decreased by 3 scores, 5 by 2 scores, 1 by 1 score).CONCLUSION Fuzheng Huayu 319 recipe had good therapeutic effects on chronic hepatitis B, it could reverse the development of liver fibrosis to some extent. In general its effects were better than that of Dahuang Zhachong pill.

Chronic stress leads to many psychiatric disorders,including social and anxiety disorders that are associated with over-activation of neurons in the basolateral amygdala(BLA).However,not all individuals develop psychiatric diseases,many showing considerable resilience against stress *** BLA neuronal activity is involved in regulating an individual’s vulnerability to stress remains *** this study,using a mouse model of chronic social defeat stress(CSDS),we divided the mice into susceptible and resilient subgroups based on their social interaction *** in vivo fiber photometry and in vitro patch-clamp recording,we showed that CSDS persistently(after 20 days of recovery from stress)increased BLA neuronal activity in all the mice regardless of their susceptible or resilient nature,although impaired social interaction behavior was only observed in susceptible *** anxiety-like behavior,on the other hand,was evident in both ***,the CSDS-induced increase of BLA neuronal activity correlated well with the heightened anxiety-like but not the social avoidance behavior in *** findings provide new insight to our understanding of the role of neuronal activity in the amygdala in mediating stress-related psychiatric disorders.

Background:Thus far,the incidence,mortality,and temporal trend data of oropharyngeal cancers(OPC)in China were *** estimated the incidence,mortality,and temporal patterns of OPC in China during 2008-2012 according to the data from 135 population-based cancer registries to better understand the epidemiological pattern of OPC and to provide more precise information for OPC control in ***:According to the data of diagnosed OPC reported to 135 cancer registries during 2008-2012,we calcu-lated age-standardized rate of incidence and mortality by 2000 Chinese standard population(ASRIC and ASRMC)and by 1985 Segi’s world standard population(ASRIW and ASRMW)by age,sex,and geographic regions;annual percent-age changes of OPC incidence and mortality were calculated using Joinpoint trend ***:ASRIW and ASRMW were 2.22/100,000 person-years and 0.94/100,000 person-years,*** incidence and mortality in urban areas were higher than those in rural *** and ASRIW of males were higher than those of *** overall ASRIC of OPC was significantly increased by 6.2%annually between 2003 and 2006(P=0.038),but remained stable between 2007 and 2012(P=0.392).ASRIC and ASRMC of males and in rural areas were significantly increased in the last decade(P0.05).Conclusions:Across multiple cancer registries in China,there was an obvious increase in OPC in the recent decade,especially for incidence and mortality of males and in rural areas,whereas the rates of females remained stable.A healthy lifestyle should be advocated and early diagnosis and early treatment of OPC should be enhanced.

Plant roots move through the soil by elongation. This is vital to their ability to anchor the plant and acquire water and minerals from the soil. In order to identify new genes involved in root elongation in rice, we screened an ethyl methane sulfonate （EMS）-mutagenized rice library, and isolated a short root mutant, Osglu3-1. The map-based cloning results showed that the mutant was due to a point mutation in OsGLU3, which encodes a putative membrane-bound endo- 1,4-13-glucanase. Osglu3-1 displayed less crystalline cellulose content in its root cell wall, shorter root cell length, and a slightly smaller root meristem as visualized by restricted expression of OsCYCBI, I：GUS. Exogenous application of glu- cose can suppress both the lower root cell wall cellulose content and short root phenotypes of Osglu3-1. Consistently, OsGLU3 is ubiquitously expressed in various tissues with strong expression in root tip, lateral root, and crown root pri- modia. The fully functional OsGLU3-GFP was detected in plasma membrane, and FM4-64-1abeled compartments in the root meristem and elongation zones. We also found that phosphate starvation, an environmental stress, altered cell wall cel- lulose content to modulate root elongation in a OsGLU3-dependant way.

The catalytic properties of the CeO_(2) catalyst for propane dehydrogenation(PDH)are examined by employing the density functional theory *** modifications and their effects on the surface reactivity are explored by creating the oxygen vacancy and single Pt atom doping.A comparative study between the binding energies of the different PDH reaction species reveals a considerable Lewis acid-base interaction over the pristine and defective surfaces,which dominantly strengthens the bond formation between the adsorbates and the catalyst surface,resulting in the enhancement of surface *** creation of oxygen vacancy and doping the CeO_(2)(111)surface with single Ptatoms changes the charge distribution over the surface on account of excess 4f *** electronic change in creases the bond formation abilities of the in active Ceatom and hence increases the adsorption stre *** vacancy in the defective CeO_(2)(111)surface migrates over the surface with the addition of an appropriate ***,it is revealed that the propylene is more strongly adsorbed on the single-Pt-atom-doped CeO_(2)(111)surface than the pristine and defective surfaces,which decreases the deep dehydrogenation energy barrier and ultimately results in the lowering of the selectivity.

Active and passive anti-Aβimmunotherapies have successfully been used for the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease animal ***,clinical use of these immunotherapies is not effective,because the vaccination is administered too *** 1 month of age,100μL of Aβ3–10-KLH peptide(vaccine,2μg/μL)was subcutaneously injected into the neck of an amyloid precursor protein/presenilin-1/tau transgenic(3×Tg-AD)mouse model.Aβ3–10-KLH peptide was re-injected at 1.5,2.5,3.5,4.5,5.5,and 6.5 months of *** levels of Aβantibody were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay,while spatial learning and memory ability were evaluated by Morris water *** was used to detect total tau with HT7 and phosphorylated tau with AT8(phosphorylation sites Ser202 and Thr205)and AT180(phosphorylation site Thr231)antibodies in the *** addition,western blot analysis was used to quantify AT8 and AT180 expression in the *** results showed that after vaccine injection,mice produced high levels of Aβantibody,cognitive function was significantly improved,and total tau and phosphorylated tau levels were significantly *** findings suggest that early active immunization with Aβ3–10-KLH vaccine can greatly reduce tau phosphorylation,thereby mitigating the cognitive decline of 3×Tg-AD *** study was approved by the Animal Ethics Committee of China Medical University,China(approval No.103-316)on April 2,2016.
