Efficient multi-objective CMA-ES algorithm assisted by knowledge-extraction-based variable-fidelity surrogate model

To accelerate the multi-objective optimization for expensive engineering cases, a Knowledge-Extraction-based Variable-Fidelity Surrogate-assisted Covariance Matrix Adaptation Evolution Strategy(KE-VFS-CMA-ES) is presented. In the first part, the KE-VFS model is established. Firstly, the optimization is performed using the low-fidelity surrogate model to obtain the Low-Fidelity Non-Dominated Solutions(LF-NDS). Secondly, aiming to obtain the High-Fidelity(HF) sample points located in promising areas, the K-means clustering algorithm and the space-filling strategy are used to extract knowledge from the LF-NDS to the HF space. Finally,the KE-VFS model is established by means of the obtained HF and LF sample points. In the second part, a novel model management based on the Modified Hypervolume Improvement(MHVI) criterion and pre-screening strategy is proposed. In each generation of KE-VFS-CMA-ES, excessive candidate points are firstly generated and then calculated by the MHVI criterion to find out a few potential points, which will be evaluated by the HF model. Through the above two parts,the promising areas can be detected and the potential points can be screened out, which contributes to speeding up the optimization process twofold. Three classic benchmark functions and a time-consuming engineering case of the aerospace integrally stiffened shell are studied, and results illustrate the excellent efficiency, robustness and applicability of KE-VFS-CMA-ES compared with other four known multi-objective optimization algorithms.

Ru-doped functional porous materials for electrocatalytic water splitting

Electrolytic water splitting(EWS)is an attractive and promising technique for the production of hydrogen energy.Nevertheless,the sluggish kinetic rate of hydrogen/oxygen evolution reactions leads to a high overpotential and low energy efficiency.Up to date,Pt/Ir-based nanocatalysts have become the state-of-the-art EWS catalysts,but disadvantages such as high cost and low earth abundance greatly limit their applications in EWS devices.As an attractive candidate for the Pt/Ir catalysts,series of Ru-based nanomaterials have aroused much attention for their low price,Pt-like hydrogen bond strength,and high EWS activity.In particular,Ru-doped functional porous materials have been becoming one of the most representative EWS catalysts,which can not only achieve the dispersion and adjustment for active Ru sites,but also simultaneously solve the problems of mass transfer and catalytic conversion in EWS.In this review,the design and preparation strategies of Ru-doped functional porous materials toward EWS in recent years are summarized,including Ru-doped metal organic frameworks(MOFs),Ru-doped porous organic polymers(POPs),and their derivatives.Meanwhile,detailed structure–activity relationships induced by the tuned geometric/electronic structures of Ru-doped functional porous materials are further depicted in this review.Last but not least,the challenges and perspectives of Ru-doped functional porous materials catalysts are reasonably proposed to provide fresh ideas for the design of Ru-based EWS catalysts.

Theoretical insight into the activity and selectivity in palladium/Ming-Phos-catalyzed three-component asymmetric synthesis of gem-diarylmethine silanes

Recently,a three-component coupling reaction for efficient construction of gem-diarylmethine silanes was developed,utilizing a Pd-Ming-Phos catalyst.To explore the underlying mechanism governing this intriguing reaction,we have conducted comprehensive density functional theory(DFT)computations(M06-L/SDD/6-311++G(d,p)/SMD//B3LYP-D3/lanl2dz/6-31G(d,p)).DFT calculations reveal that the oxidative addition of Ar Br to Pd(0)is the rate-determining step,and the carbenation process of Ph CHN_(2)to Pd(Ⅱ)is the enantioselectivity-determining step.Moreover,the Ming-Phos ligand exhibits a self-adaptive nature,allowing it to dynamically adapt its coordination patterns with the metal center in different elementary steps,thereby enhancing the overall reactivity.The enantioselectivity is determined by both the trans effect and the side-arm effect of the ligand.This mechanism nicely explains why TY-Phos with P-tBu_(2)instead of the Ming-Phos with P-Ph2results in poor reactivity and much reduced enantioselectivity.This study not only provides deeper insights into the functioning principles of Sad Phos ligands but also offers valuable guidance for future ligand modifications and optimizations.

Pancreatic cancer is characterized by inter-tumoral and intra-tumoral heterogeneity,especially in genetic alteration and microenvironment.Conventional therapeutic strategies for pancreatic cancer usually suffer resistance,highlighting the necessity for personalized precise treatment.Cancer vaccines have become promising alternatives for pancreatic cancer treatment because of their multifaceted advantages including multiple targeting,minimal nonspecific effects,broad therapeutic window,low toxicity,and induction of persistent immunological memory.Multiple conventional vaccines based on the cells,microorganisms,exosomes,proteins,peptides,or DNA against pancreatic cancer have been developed;however,their overall efficacy remains unsatisfactory.Compared with these vaccine modalities,messager RNA(mRNA)-based vaccines offer technical and conceptional advances in personalized precise treatment,and thus represent a potentially cutting-edge option in novel therapeutic approaches for pancreatic cancer.This review summarizes the current progress on pancreatic cancer vaccines,highlights the superiority of mRNA vaccines over other conventional vaccines,and proposes the viable tactic for designing and applying personalized mRNA vaccines for the precise treatment of pancreatic cancer.

CircDOCK7 facilitates the proliferation and adipogenic differentiation of chicken abdominal preadipocytes through the gga‑miR‑301b‑3p/ACSL1 axis

Background Abdominal fat deposition depends on both the proliferation of preadipocytes and their maturation into adipocytes,which is a well-orchestrated multistep process involving many regulatory molecules.Circular RNAs(circRNAs)have emergingly been implicated in mammalian adipogenesis.However,circRNA-mediated regulation in chicken adipogenesis remains unclear.Our previous circRNA sequencing data identified a differentially expressed novel circRNA,8:27,886,180|27,889,657,during the adipogenic differentiation of chicken abdominal preadipocytes.This study aimed to investigate the regulatory role of circDOCK7 in the proliferation and adipogenic differentiation of chicken abdominal preadipocytes,and explore its molecular mechanisms of competing endogenous RNA underlying chicken adipogenesis.Results Our results showed that 8:27,886,180|27,889,657 is an exonic circRNA derived from the head-to-tail splicing of exons 19–22 of the dedicator of cytokinesis 7(DOCK7)gene,abbreviated as circDOCK7.CircDOCK7 is mainly distributed in the cytoplasm of chicken abdominal preadipocytes and is stable because of its RNase R resistance and longer half-life.CircDOCK7 is significantly upregulated in the abdominal fat tissues of fat chickens compared to lean chickens,and its expression gradually increases during the proliferation and adipogenic differentiation of chicken abdominal preadipocytes.Functionally,the gain-and loss-of-function experiments showed that circDOCK7 promoted proliferation,G0/G1-to S-phase progression,and glucose uptake capacity of chicken abdominal preadipocytes,in parallel with adipogenic differentiation characterized by remarkably increased intracellular lipid droplet accumulation and triglyceride and acetyl coenzyme A content in differentiated chicken abdominal preadipocytes.Mechanistically,a pull-down assay and a dual-luciferase reporter assay confirmed that circDOCK7 interacted with gga-miR-301b-3p,which was identified as an inhibitor of chicken abdominal adipogenesis.Moreover,the ACSL1 gene was demonstrated to

Integrative analysis of miRNA and mRNA profiles reveals that gga-miR-106-5p inhibits adipogenesis by targeting the KLF15 gene in chickens

Background:Excessive abdominal fat deposition in commercial broilers presents an obstacle to profitable meat quality,feed utilization,and reproduction.Abdominal fat deposition depends on the proliferation of preadipocytes and their maturation into adipocytes,which involves a cascade of regulatory molecules.Accumulating evidence has shown that microRNAs(miRNAs)serve as post-transcriptional regulators of adipogenic differentiation in mammals.However,the miRNA-mediated molecular mechanisms underlying abdominal fat deposition in chickens are still poorly understood.This study aimed to investigate the biological functions and regulatory mechanism of miRNAs in chicken abdominal adipogenesis.Results:We established a chicken model of abdominal adipocyte differentiation and analyzed miRNA and mRNA expression in abdominal adipocytes at different stages of differentiation(0,12,48,72,and 120 h).A total of 217 differentially expressed miRNAs(DE-miRNAs)and 3520 differentially expressed genes were identified.Target prediction of DE-miRNAs and functional enrichment analysis revealed that the differentially expressed targets were significantly enriched in lipid metabolism-related signaling pathways,including the PPAR signaling and MAPK signaling pathways.A candidate miRNA,gga-miR-106-5p,exhibited decreased expression during the proliferation and differentiation of abdominal preadipocytes and was downregulated in the abdominal adipose tissues of fat chickens compared to that of lean chickens.gga-miR-106-5p was found to inhibit the proliferation and adipogenic differentiation of chicken abdominal preadipocytes.A dual-luciferase reporter assay suggested that the KLF15 gene,which encodes a transcriptional factor,is a direct target of gga-miR-106-5p.gga-miR-106-5p suppressed the posttranscriptional activity of KLF15,which is an activator of abdominal preadipocyte proliferation and differentiation,as determined with gain-and loss-of-function experiments.Conclusions:gga-miR-106-5p functions as an inhibitor of abdominal adipogenesis by t

Modeling tail bubble dynamics during the launch of an underwater vehicle using the boundary element method

A tail bubble is generated behind a high-speed vehicle at the early stage of the underwater launch process.The tail bubble dynamic behavior involves expansion,overexpansion,contraction,pinch-off and jet formation,and it significantly influences the vehicle’s movement.However,the tail bubble dynamic behavior is an issue not very well studied.This paper establishes a numerical model for the interaction between the tail bubble and the vehicle based on the boundary element method(BEM)to gain new insight into this issue.The BEM results are compared to a computational fluid dynamics model to validate the numerical model,and good agreement is achieved.Additionally,a convergence test of the BEM model is conducted to verify its independence of the mesh size.The influence of some governing parameters on the evolution of the tail bubble is then systematically studied,focusing on its maximum radius,pinch-off time,and pinch-off position.There are two pinch-off position regimes of the tail bubble,one at the bottom and the other near the middle.

Search for the Metal-weak Thick Disk from the LAMOST DR5

Based on the data release of the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope survey(LAMOST DR5)and the Gaia Early Data Release 3(Gaia EDR3),we construct a sample containing 46,109 giant(log g≤3.5 dex)stars with heliocentric distance d≤4 kpc,and the sample is further divided into two groups of the inner(RGC8.34 kpc).The LZdistributions of our program stars in the panels with different[Fe/H]and[α/Fe]suggest that the thick-disk consists of two distinct components with different chemical compositions and kinematic properties.For the inner region,the metal-weak thick disk(MWTD)significantly contributes when[α/Fe]>+0.2 dex and[Fe/H]-0.8 dex.However,MWTD clearly appears only when[α/Fe]>+0.2 dex and[Fe/H]bout the inside-out disk formation scenario.

Ascending aorta dilatation reduces the influence of elevated pulse pressure on left ventricular hypertrophy:findings from a Chinese elderly hypertensive population

OBJECTIVE To determine the role of ascending aorta dilatation in the relationship between pulse pressure(PP)and left ventricular(LV)hypertrophy.METHODS A total of 1556 Chinese elderly hypertensive patients were retrospectively studied.Transthoracic echocardiography was used to obtain the aortic and cardiac structure measurements.In addition,brachial blood pressure was measured,and total arterial compliance,systemic vascular resistance,arterial elastance,and end-systolic LV elastance were calculated.The participants were divided into four groups according to the status of ascending aortic diameter and PP.RESULTS LV mass index increased in succession in the four groups,i.e.,the group with the normal aorta and lower PP,with the normal aorta and higher PP,with aortic dilatation and lower PP,and with aortic dilatation and higher PP(Ptrend<0.001).Total arterial compliance−1,arterial elastance,and end-systolic LV elastance were slightly higher in the individuals with normal aorta compared to those with aortic dilatation,regardless of PP being lower or higher(P<0.01).Compared to the group with the normal aorta and lower PP,individuals with aortic dilatation had a significantly increased multivariable adjusted risk of LV hypertrophy,and higher PP further exacerbated this risk[aortic dilatation with lower PP(OR=1.75,95%CI:1.01–3.04)and aortic dilatation with higher PP(OR=3.42,95%CI:2.03–5.77)].In the relation between PP and LV mass index(β=0.095,P<0.001),-41.3%of the total effect was attributable to mediation by ascending aortic diameter(P<0.0001).CONCLUSIONS In Chinese elderly patients with hypertension,ascending aorta dilatation could reduce the influence of elevated PP on LV hypertrophy.

Nocturnal hypertension and riser pattern are associated with heart failure rehospitalization in patients with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction

BACKGROUND Nocturnal hypertension is reported as a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.This study aimed to explore the potential association between nocturnal hypertension and heart failure(HF)rehospitalization in patients with HF with preserved ejection fraction(HFpEF).METHODS A total of 538 patients with HFpEF from May 2018 to December 2021 were consequently recruited in this study and followed up until they were readmitted for HF or the end of this study.Cox regression analysis was used to reveal the potential association between nighttime blood pressure(BP)levels,nocturnal hypertension and nocturnal BP patterns and HF rehospitalization.Kaplan-Meier curve was used to assess the cumulative event-free survival rate between groups.RESULTS There were 537 patients with HFpEF were included in the final analysis.The mean age of the study population was 77.14±8.68 years,and 41.2% of patients were men.After a median follow-up duration of 10.93(4.19–21.13)months,176 patients(32.7%)with HFpEF were readmitted for HF.Cox regression analysis had revealed that nighttime systolic BP level[hazards ratio(HR)=1.018,95%CI:1.008–1.028,P=0.001],nighttime diastolic BP level(HR=1.024,95%CI:1.007–1.042,P=0.007),nocturnal hypertension(HR=1.688,95%CI:1.229–2.317,P=0.001)were associated with HF rehospitalization.Kaplan-Meier analysis had demonstrated that patients with nocturnal hypertension had significantly lower event-free survival rate(log-rank P<0.001).Furthermore,patients with a riser pattern had a higher risk of HF rehospitalization(HR=1.828,95%CI:1.055–3.166,P=0.031)and lower eventfree survival rate(log-rank P=0.003)than those with a dipper pattern.These findings were also confirmed in patients with HFpEF and hyperuricemia.CONCLUSIONS Nighttime BP levels,nocturnal hypertension and a riser pattern are independently associated with HF rehospitalization in patients with HFpEF,and prominently in patients with HFpEF and hyperuricemia.Well controlled nighttime BP levels should be emphasized and considered in patients with HFpEF.
