Simulation of aerodynamic performance affected by vortex generators on blunt trailing-edge airfoils

An investigation was carried out by numerical simulation on a wind turbine airfoil and a blunt trailing-edge airfoil with and without vortex generators (VGs), and the performance of the airfoils was analyzed. By the simulation of airfoil DU 91-W2-250 it was verified that the numerical method and model were credible. Based on this airfoil, a new one with a blunt trailing edge of 6% chord was blended by symmetrically adding thickness, and its characteristics curves were obtained through computing at key angles of attack. Additionally, the pressure distribution on blended airfoil was analyzed by comparing to the airfoil without blend. The interaction of streamwise vortices induced by VGs with trailing vortex or separation vortex was considered, followed by the uncovery of how VGs can suppress the boundary layer separation.

Turbocharging technology is today considered as a promising way for internal combustion engine energy saving and CO2 *** design is a major challenge for turbocharged engine performance *** turbocharger designer must draw upon the information of engine operation conditions,and an appropriate link between the engine requirements and design features must be carefully developed to generate the most suitable design *** objective of this research is to develop a turbocharger design approach for better turbocharger matching to an internal combustion *** development of the approach is based on the concept of turbocharger design and interaction links between engine cycle requirements and design parameter values.A turbocharger through flow model is then used to generate the design *** integrated method has been applied with success to a gasoline engine turbocharger assembly.

Lunar exploration is deemed crucial for uncovering the origins of the Earth-Moon system and is the first step for advancing humanity’s exploration of deep *** the past decade,the chinese Lunar Exploration Program(CLEP),also known as the Chang’e(CE)Project,has achieved remarkable *** has successfully developed and demonstrated the engineering capability required to reach and return from the lunar ***,the CE Project has made historic firsts with the landing and on-site exploration of the far side of the Moon,along with the collection of the youngest volcanic samples from the Procellarum KREEP *** achievements have significantly enhanced our understanding of lunar *** on this success,china has proposed an ambitious crewed lunar exploration strategy,aiming to return to the Moon for scientific exploration and *** plan encompasses two primary phases:the first crewed lunar landing and exploration,followed by a thousand-kilometer scale scientific expedition to construct a geological cross-section across the lunar *** the limitations of current lunar exploration efforts and china’s engineering and technical capabilities,this paper explores the benefits of crewed lunar exploration while leveraging synergies with robotic *** study refines fundamental lunar scientific questions that could lead to significant breakthroughs,considering the respective engineering and technological *** research lays a crucial foundation for defining the objectives of future lunar exploration,emphasizing the importance of crewed missions and offering insights into potential advancements in lunar science.

It is well known that interactions between the leading edge of a blade and incoming vortical structures produce a sharp rise in fluctuating pressure nearby,contributing significantly to the noise production in various types of *** suppress this fluctuating pressure and subsequently induced noise,as the first step,active control of interactions between an airfoil and incoming cylinder-generated vortices,which mimics the practical phenomenon,was experimentally *** essence of the control is to create a local perturbation,using piezo-ceramic actuators,on the surface near the leading edge of the airfoil,thus modifying the airfoil-vortex *** open-and closed-loop methods were used,where the surface perturbation was controlled by an external sinusoidal wave and a feedback pressure signal from a pressure transducer installed at the leading edge,*** was observed that the closed-loop control was superior to the open-loop one;the closed-and open-loop controls achieve a maximum reduction in the pressure fluctuation at the dominant vortex frequency by 32% and 11%,*** detailed physics behind the observations was discussed.

The smart fatigue load control of a large-scale wind turbine blade subject to wake effect was numerically investigated in this paper. The performances were evaluated and compared at selected typical wind speeds within the whole operational region under three turbine layout strategies, i.e., column, row and array arrangements, together with a single turbine case as reference, utilizing our newly developed aero-servo-elastic platform. It was observed that not only the blade fatigue loads but the stabilities of power and collective pitch angle were effectively controlled for all cases, especially at the highest studied hub velocity of20 m/s, leading to the averaged reduction percentages in the standard deviations of the flapwise root moment, the flapwise tip deflection and the root damage equivalent load, of about 30.0 %, 20.0 % and 20.0 %, respectively. Furthermore, the control effectiveness gradually lessened in the sequences of single, column, row and array cases, with successively increasing effective turbulence intensity,within regions II and III. The performances in region III,associated with the impaired flow separation on the blade by the effective pitching action, were much better than those in region II, related to enhanced flow detachment. In addition,at the rated wind velocity, the control for the array case was superior over other three cases, which was thought to be originated from the more pitch activities to impair the uncontrolled flow separation on the blade surface.

A numerical model of delta-wing type vortex generator was developed in two *** first step was to obtain a parameterized model of the shedding vortex based on delta-wing theory,which relates the geometry parameters and flow field parameters to the strength of shedding vortex which directly decides the source *** the second step,a method was proposed to add source terms into the flow control equations so that the shedding vortex could be simulated *** soon as the numerical model was completed,two cases:One for a plate and another for an airfoil segment were investigated for *** showed that the flow field structure and aerodynamic performance agreed well with those obtained from cases with real vortex generators.
