The flow behavior of Rene 95 PM alloy was studied from 1050 to 1150 deg Cwith strain rate of 1 X 10^(-3), 1 X 10^(-2., 1 X 10^(-1) and 1 s^(-1). At a given temperature andstrain rate, flow curves exhibit a peak followed by flow softening up to a steady state. Moreover,at constant strain, flow stress increases with increasing strain rate and decreasing temperature. Anequation relating hyperbolic sine of flow stress to hot working parameters, such as strain, strainrate and temperature, was established by using multiple nonlinear regression method. A very goodagreement was found between predicted and experimental flow stress in all the strain rangeinvestigated. Application of the constitutive equation in predicting forming loads and flow behaviorand temperature distribution in both upper and lower dies in an isothermal forging process ofturbine disk of large dimension (about 630 mm) by means of a finite element code was systematicallyanalyzed.

Fluidized beds are nonlinear dynamic systems that exchange mass and energy with outside. They are governed not only byfluid dynamics, but by thermodynamics, especially the second law of thermodynamics as well. According to Prigogine's dissipative structure theory, the following have been concluded: (l) a fixed bed is on thermodynamic blanch, and bubbling, turbulent and fast beds areon the dissipatve structure branches. (2. Entropy in fluidized beds is divided into tWo parts: entropy production and entropy flux. The latter increases with gas velocity and decreases with pressure of the systems. That means the entropy of a system may reduce and the systemwith higher gas velocity behaves as dissipative structure characteristics. (3) For a giVen velocity, a fluidized bed operates stably on thewhole, but it is unstable to local gas-solid phases. The unstable phases are described by fluid dynamic equations, While the minimum ofsystem energy function assures whole stability of the system. (4) A transition criterion of a bubbling bed is derived from Prigogine's stability theory.

A mathematical formulation is applied to represent the phenomena in theincremental melting and solidification process (IMSP), and the temperature and electromagneticfields and the depth of steel liquid phase are calculated by a finite difference technique using thecontrol volume method. The result shows that the predicted values are in good agreement with theobservations. In accordance with the calculated values for different kinds of materials anddifferent size of molds, the technological parameter of the IMS process such as the power supply andthe descending speed rate can be determined.

The structure modification and its mechanism have been studied when perlite products changed from water-affinity state to anti-water state. The structure of fused perlite and its surface physicochemical properties have also been studied. The modification of perlite products has provided the products with anti-water property, which not only enhanced the quality of thermal insulating function, reduced the lost of heat energy, but also made the products water-proof These modified perlite products are used as ideal thermal insulating layers for the thermodynamic equipment and heat transporting conducts.

The heterogeneous nucleation has been analyzed in terms of the thermodynamic theory, and the mathematical model of wetting angle of heterogeneous nucleation has been developed based on the dynamic requirements of hetero- and homogeneous nucleation. With the wetting angel model, the wetting angles of different catalysts in liquid iron have been calculated. The result shows that the wetting angle of most catalysts is smaller than 40, and the value of f() is far less than 1. The wetting angles of TiN, TiC and RE2.3 are smaller, while the wetting angle of MnO is bigger among the ordinary nucleation catalysts. The wetting angles calculated by this model are in agreement with the results of other research work.

The fuzzy neural network is applied to the short-term load forecasting. The fuzzy rules and fuzzy membership functions of the network are obtained through fuzzy neural network learming. Three inference algorithms, i.e. themultiplicative inference, the maximum inference and the minimum inference, are used for comparison. The learningalgorithms corresponding to the inference methods are derived from back-propagation algorithm. To validate the fuzzyneural network model, the network is used to Predict short-term load by compaing the network output against the realload data from a local power system supplying electricity to a large steel manufacturer. The experimental results aresatisfactory.

An investigation was made on the influences of mechanical stirring on microstructure of hyper-eutectic Al-30%Si alloy (inmass fraction) during solidification. The primary Si crystals formed in the alloy melt were gradually changed from elongated platelets tonear-spherical shapes by mechanical stirring. The spheroidization of primary St crystals occurs by the mechanism of bending and fractureof Si platelets, wear and collision between Si crystals, and coalescence of small Si particles. The influence of under-cooling and coolingrate of the alloy melt on primary Si crystals of semi-solid processed alloys is investigated as well. The increase of under-cooling andcooling rate decreases the size of primary Si crystals.

A micro-modeling method (MM) for the quantitative prediction of the shrinkage cavity formation in SGiron castings is proposed. The mathematical models describing the volume changes during the solidification ofspheroidal graphite cast iron are established based on the models of solidification kinetics. The shrinkage cavityformation of T-shaped SG iron castings is calculated with MM method. The calculated results are compared with theexperimental results. It is shown that the predicted size, shape and distribution of shrinkage cavity by MM methodare in good agreement with the measured results.

The construction of basic wavelet was discussed and many basic analyzing wavelets was compared. Acomplex analyzing wavelet which is continuous, smoothing, orthogonal and exponential decreasing was presented, andit was used to decompose two blasting seismic signals with the continuous wavelet transforms (CWT). The resultshows that wavelet analysis is the better method to help us determine the essential factors which create damage effectsthan Fourier analysis.
