Biological mechanism of controlling cotton aphid (Homoptera: aphididae) by the marginal alfalfa zone surrounding cotton field

At the beginning stage of cotton aphids (Aphis gossypii Glover) invading the cotton field, large numbers of insects have accumulated in the marginal alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) zone surrounding it. They are 6.94 times (excluded natural enemies) as many as the aphids in cotton field. Most of these insects are Therioaphid maculata (Buckton), and occur in fields 10-15 d earlier than cotton aphids. Consequently, abundant natural enemies have bred in alfalfa zone when cotton aphids increase rapidly in cotton fields in the middle of June in Xinhe County, Xinjiang Autonomous Region. The total number of the major natural enemies, including Coccinellids, Chrysopids and Syphid flies in alfalfa zone, is 13.65 times that in cotton field within the same acreage of fields. At this period, it is very effective to force the natural enemies from the alfalfa zone into the nearby cotton field to control the rapid increase of cotton aphid population by cutting the alfalfa stands.

Acoustic agglomeration technology use high-intensity acoustic field to make aerosol particles collide and condense rapidly. Existing studies have shown that 70%–90% of fine particles can be eliminated within minutes using compression drives and air-jet generators. Currently, there are limitations to the sound sources used. In this paper, an airborne ultrasonic transducer with a resonant frequency of 15 kHz is designed, followed by the corresponding numerical simulation and experiments for the evaluation of the vibration modal and sound pressure field. The sound pressure levels (SPL) of the open space and the agglomeration chamber can reach 150 dB and 156 dB, respectively. The agglomeration effect of water droplets, liquid phase smoke, solid phase smoke and mixed smoke is experimentally investigated, and the light transmittance rapidly increases from 8% to 60% within 4 s, 8 s, 5 s and 6 s, respectively. Agglomeration is also effective in the high-frequency range, and we infer that the acoustic wake effect is the predominant mechanism. The elimination effect is promoted with the increasing of SPL until the corresponding secondary acoustic effect is enhanced. Moreover, the agglomeration rate of higher concentration aerosol is significantly better than that of diluted aerosols in ultrasonic agglomeration process.

In this work, Bi2XO6(X = W, Mo) are synthesized at different temperatures. The results of tests find the optimal temperatures of Bi_(2)WO_(6) and Bi_(2)MoO_(6) are 180 and 160 °C(BW-180, BM-160). Then, BW-180 and BM-160 are further compounded with different contents of CuS. The results of photoelectrochemical(PEC) tests show that CuS can improve the PEC performance of semiconductor materials, and it has better performance when CuS mass fraction is 5%. These maybe the photoelectron potentials generated by Cu S/Bi_(2)XO_(6)(X = Mo, W) heterojunction reduce the combination of photogenerated electrons and holes. When the PEC sensor based on 5%-CuS/BW-180 detects Cr(VI), it has a linear range of 1–80 μmol/L with detection limit of 0.95 μmol/L, while the PEC sensor based on 5%-CuS/BM-160 detects Cr(VI) has a linear range of 0.5–230 μmol/L and a detection limit of 0.12 μmol/L. Thus, 5%-CuS/Bi_(2)XO_(6) has potential application in hexavalent chromium detection.

Zn_3V_3O_8 two-dimensional micro sheets are successfully synthesized by combination of solvothermal method and heat treatment. The X-ray diffraction(XRD) and field emission scanning electron microscopy(SEM) are used to characterize the structure and morphology of the samples, and the battery testing system is used to investigate its electrochemical performance. The results show that the Zn_3V_3O_8 is successfully obtained using mix solvent(water:ethylene glycol =1:1), and the sample takes on morphology of two-dimensional sheets. The initial discharge capacity for Zn_3V_3O_8 two-dimensional micro sheets is 752.0 mAh/g at 100 mA/g in the voltage range of 0.01-3 V. After heat treatment in a tube furnace at 550 ℃, the sample had the initial discharge capacity as 1152.0 mAh/g and maintained it at 901.4 mAh/g after 100 cycles. The good electrochemical performance for Zn_3V_3O_8 two-dimensional micro sheets make it possible to be used as novel anode for lithium ion battery application.

Controlling factors for gas hydrate occurrence in Shenhu area on the northern slope of the South China Sea

Temperature and pressure on seafloor of the northern slope in the South China Sea are suitable for gas hydrate formation, but bottom simulation reflector (BSR), an indication of gas hydrate occurrence, only occurred in limited areas of the slope. Drillings in the BSR-distributed area (the District S) on the northern slope of the South China Sea suggested that gas hydrate only occurred at Sites SH2, SH3, and SH7 with high saturation (up to 20%-40%), and there is no hydrate at Sites SH1 and SH5 although the distance between SH1 to SH3 is only 500m. In this paper, we investigated seafloor gradient, fault development, temperature, and pressure in the District S on the northern slope of the South China Sea to understand the possible factors con- trolling BSR distribution and gas hydrate occurrence. The District S is a structurally fractured continental slope zone and its seafloor gradient varied greatly. The BSR-occurred areas have an average gradient of 19.89×10 2 whereas the BSR-free zone has the average gradient of 10.57×10 2 . The calculated relative structural intensities from fault densities and displacements show that the BSR-distributed areas tend to occur in the areas with a moderately high structural intensity, where faults frequently developed close to the seafloor that are possibly favored for lateral migration of gases. On the basis of temperatures and pressures at drilling sites, hydrate-occurred Sites SH2, SH3, and SH7 are located within the thermodynamically stable area for methane hydrate, and hydrate-absent Sites SH1 and SH5 are out of the thermodynamically stable area for methane hydrate formation, suggesting that both BSR and the thermodynamic stability are necessary for hydrate occurrence in the subsurface.

Study on the fast elimination of smoke particle based on electro-acoustic coupling agglomeration technology

Fire smoke,which consists large amounts of fine particles,is considered as the fatal factor in *** this study,a fast smoke particle elimination method based on electro-acoustic coupling agglomeration technology is ***,the experimental results show that the electro-acoustic coupling agglomeration has higher smoke elimination efficiency compared to *** smoke transmission is much less than 80%after 30s of single acoustic or electric field action,while the coupled field reaches 90%.Then,the effects of acoustic frequency,sound pressure level and voltage on the smoke elimination characteristics are *** is found that the optimal acoustic frequency is *** as the sound pressure level and voltage increase,the elimination efficiency first increases and then tends to stabilize,the critical values of the sound pressure level and voltage are 135 dB and *** indicates that there is an optimal combination of the three ***,through the theoretical analysis of particle movement and the micro-morphology of agglomerates,the particle agglomeration mechanism under the electro-acoustic coupling is *** study provides a new idea for the fast elimination of fire smoke particle.

At modern cold seeps,the anaerobic oxidation of methane(AOM)is the dominant pathway for methane consumption in marine ***,which is mediated by a consortium of methane oxidizing archaea and sulfate reducing bacteria,is proposed to be responsible for authigenic carbonate formation.A methane-derived carbonate chimney was collected from the Shenhu area, northern South China *** membrane lipids and their very low carbon isotopic compositions(?115‰to?104‰)in the Shenhu chimney suggest the presence of an AOM *** specific archaeal and bacterial biomarkers were detected,including Ar,DAGE 1f,and monocyclic *** strongly depleted??13C values(?115‰to?104‰),which are lower than those of the normal marine lipids in sediments,reveal biogenic methane as their *** carbonate deposits exhibiting a chimney structure indicate that a vigorous methane-rich fluid expulsion may have occurred at the *** propose that the decomposition of gas hydrates at depth is the likely cause of seepage and cold seep carbonate formation in the Shenhu area.
