Changes of structure and functional properties of rice protein in the fresh edible rice during the seed development

It has been reported that fresh edible rice has more bioactive compounds and its protein is easier to digest and has lower hypoallergenic than mature rice. In this paper, the changes in structure and functional properties of proteins at five different stages, including early milky stage(EMS), middle milky stage(MMS), late milky stage(LMS), waxy ripe stage(WS)and ripening stage(RS), during the seed development were investigated. It was found that with the seed developing, the molecular weight of fresh rice protein gradually become larger while the secondary structure changed from the highest content of disordered structure at MMS to the highest content of ordered structure at RS, which affect the surface hydrophobicity and then the functional properties of proteins, including foaming properties, emulsifying properties and oil holding capacity. Fresh rice protein at MMS has the strongest surface hydrophobicity while fresh edible rice protein at RS has the strongest oil holding capability. The results of our study can provide a theoretical basis for the application of fresh rice protein in the food industry and help to develop new fresh edible rice food.

Immunogenic cell death-related long noncoding RNA influences immunotherapy against lung adenocarcinoma

Lung adenocarcinoma(LUAD)is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths,accounting for over a million deaths worldwide annually.Immunogenic cell death(ICD)elicits an adaptive immune response.However,the role of ICD-related long noncoding RNAs(lncRNAs)in LUAD is unknown.In this study,we investigated the characteristics of the tumor microenvironment in LUAD,the prognostic significance of ICD-related lncRNAs,and the half-maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50)of possible chemotherapeutic drugs.We sorted prognostic lncRNAs using univariate Cox regression and constructed a risk signature based on them.We then confirmed the model’s accuracy and generated a nomogram.Additionally,we performed immune microenvironment analysis,somatic mutation calculation,Tumor Immune Dysfunction and Exclusion(TIDE)analysis,and anticancer pharmaceutical IC50 prediction.Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator Cox regression identified 27 prognostic lncRNAs related to ICD,and a unique risk signature using 10 ICD-related lncRNAs was constructed.The risk score was confirmed to be a reliable predictor of survival,with the highest c-index score.The signature had a remarkable predictive performance with clinical applicability and could accurately predict the overall survival in LUAD.Furthermore,the lncRNA signature was closely associated with immunocyte invasion.We also analyzed the correlation between the risk score,tumor-infiltrating immune cells,and prognosis and identified high immune and ESTIMATE scores in low-risk patients.Moreover,we observed elevated checkpoint gene expression and low TIDE scores in high-risk patients,indicating a good immunotherapy response.Finally,high-risk patients were shown to be susceptible to anticancer medications.Therefore,our unique risk signature comprising 10 ICD-related lncRNAs was demonstrated to indicate the characteristics of the tumor-immune microenvironment in LUAD,predict patients’overall survival,and guide individualized treatment.

Self-assembled fluorescent tripeptide nanoparticles for bioimaging and drug delivery applications

Peptide self-assembled nanomaterials have attracted more and more attention due to their wide applications such as drug delive ry,cell imaging,and real-time drug monitoring.However,the application of the peptide is still limited by its inherent optical properties.Here we proposed and prepared a series of fluorescent tripeptide nanoparticles(TPNPs)through π-π stacking and zinc coordination.The experimental results show that the nanoparticles(TPNPs1)formed by the self-assembly of the tripeptide tryptophan-tryptophan-tryptophan have the highest fluorescence intensity,uniform and appropriate size,and low cytotoxicity.Furthermore,there was fluorescence resonance between TPNPs1 and doxorubicin,which has been successfully applied for real-time cell imaging and drug release monitoring.

Detection of amyloid-beta by Fmoc-KLVFF self-assembled fluorescent nanoparticles for Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis

The abnormal aggregation of amyloid-beta(Aβ)has been widely believed to play an important role in the pathogenesis of Alz heimer’s disease(AD),which is also recognized as one of the main biomarkers for AD diagnosis.The peptide sequence Lys-Leu-Val-Phe-Phe(KLVFF)is considered as the main driver of the fibrillation of Aβ,which also can be utilized to target Aβand inhibit its aggregation.In this study,KLVFF and Fmoc-KLVFF fluorescent nanoparticles were self-assembled through zinc coordination andπ-πstacking.The recognition of Aβaggregates including oligomers and fibrils by fluorescent nanoparticles can be realized through aromatic,hydrophobic,and hydrogen-bond interactions.The fluorescent nanoprobes can distinguish Aβaggregation formats and detect Aβat the limit of 1 pg/mL(S/N=3).Hence,the detection of Aβaggregates by fluorescent peptide nanoparticles has great potential for AD diagnosis and progression prediction.

Quantifying the spatiotemporal characteristics of ecosystem services and livelihoods in China’s poverty-stricken counties

Understanding the coupling relationship between ecosystem services and poverty livelihoods is a prerequisite for poverty eradication and ecological protection in China.In this paper,we intended to quantify the coupling relationship between ecosystem services and poverty livelihoods in 717 poverty-stricken counties in China.First,we identified distinct levels of ecosystem services and poverty respectively in the poverty-stricken areas based on the ecosystem services subsystem index and poverty livelihoods subsystem index.Then,we calculated the coupling degree and coupling coordination degree between the ecosystem services and the poverty livelihoods in China^poverty-stricken counties from 2000 to 2015.Finally,we analyzed the temporal and spatial evolution of the coupling between ecosystem services and poverty livelihoods.The results indicate that the ecosystem services showed a trend of first decreasing and then increasing,while the poverty level showed an increased trend.In addition,the coupling relationship between ecosystem services and poverty livelihoods in poverty-stricken counties was also improved from 2000 to 2015.However,the coupling degree value or coupling coordination degree values in some counties or contiguous impoverished areas showed a decreased trend,the coupling relationship between ecosystem services and poverty livelihoods in those counties or areas was higher conflict.Future more,the coupling relationship in China's poverty-stricken counties was mainly intermediate conflict and low conflict,which need to improve in the future.Thus,it is suggested that effective measures are required to lift ecosystem services out of the poverty trap and into sustainable livelihoods.

Multilayer two-dimensional lignin/ZnO composites with excellent anti-UV aging properties for polymer films

Lignin is a kind of natural green polymer with abundant active functional groups and designable molecular structure.In this work,the quaternized lignosulfonate(QLS)with amphoteric characteristic was prepared through chemical modification using lignosulfonate sodium(LS).Then,a lignin-confined multilayered two-dimensional composite(QLS/ZnO)was prepared by one-step dynamic hydrothermal method using QLS,zinc nitrate,and hexamethylenetetramine.The QLS/ZnO has a regular pie-shaped structure,which is composed of 3-5 layers of two-dimensional nanosheets with a thickness of~10 nm.It shows excellent ultraviolet light absorption performance and active photoelectron scavenging performance,and thus showing great application potential in polymer materials.The water polyurethane(WPU)and polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)films showed excellent UV shielding performance and good mechanical properties when doped with the QLS/ZnO.The tensile strength of WPU t 0.6 wt%QLS/ZnO and PVA t 0.8 wt%QLS/ZnO composite films is increased by 49%and 24%,respectively,and the elongation at break is increased by 138%and 33%.Furthermore,the composite films showed excellent anti-UV aging resistance after being aged under strong UV irradiation for 14 days.This work is of great significance to the high-value application of industrial lignin in the field of nano-functional materials.

Association between 15 known or potential breast cancer susceptibility genes and breast cancer risks in Chinese women

Objective:There are many hereditary breast cancer patients in China,and multigene panel testing has been a new paradigm of genetic testing for these patients and their relatives.However,the magnitude of breast cancer risks related to multiple breast cancer susceptibility genes are largely unknown in Chinese women.Methods:We screened pathogenic variants in 15 established or potential breast cancer susceptibility genes from 8,067 consecutive Chinese female breast cancer patients and 13,129 Chinese cancer-free female controls.These breast cancer patients were unselected for age at diagnosis or family history.Results:We found that pathogenic variants in TP53[odds ratio(OR):16.9,95%confidence interval(CI):5.2–55.2];BRCA2(OR:10.4,95%CI:7.6–14.2);BRCA1(OR:9.7,95%CI:6.3–14.8);and PALB2(OR:5.2,95%CI:3.0–8.8)were associated with a high risk of breast cancer.ATM,BARD1,CHEK2,and RAD51D were associated with a moderate risk of breast cancer with ORs ranging from 2-fold to 4-fold.In contrast,pathogenic variants of NBN,RAD50,BRIP1,and RAD51C were not associated with increased risk of breast cancer in Chinese women.The pathogenic variants of PTEN,CDH1,and STK11 were very rare,so they had a limited contribution to Chinese breast cancer.Patients with pathogenic variants of TP53,BRCA1,BRCA2,and PALB2 more often had earlyonset breast cancer,bilateral breast cancer,and a family history of breast cancer and/or any cancer.Conclusions:This study provided breast cancer risk assessment data for multiple genes in Chinese women,which is useful for genetic testing and clinical management of Chinese hereditary breast cancer.

Evolution of Potential Spatial Distribution Patterns of Carex Tussock Wetlands Under Climate Change Scenarios,Northeast China

Carex tussock plays an important role in supporting biodiversity and carbon sequestration of wetland ecosystems,while it is highly threatened by climate change and anthropogenic activities.Therefore,identifying the potential distribution patterns of Carex tussocks wetland is vital for their targeted conservation and restoration.The current and future(2050s and 2070s)potential habitats distribution of Carex tussocks in Northeast China were predicted using a Maximum Entropy(Maxent)model based on 68 current data of Carex tussock distributions and three groups of environmental variables(bioclimate,topography,soil properties).Results show that isothermality,seasonal precipitation variability and altitude are important factors that determine the distribution of Carex tussock.The high suitable habitat of Carex tussock is about 5.7×10^(4)km^(2) and mainly distributed in the Sanjiang Plain,Songnen Plain,Changbai Mountains and Da Hinggan Mountains.The area of stable habitats of Carex tussock is significantly higher than the lost and expanded habitats in the future climate scenarios,and the unsuitable habitats mainly occur in Da Hinggan Mountains,Xiao Hinggan Mountains and Changbai Mountains.Overall,Carex tussock wetlands at high altitude and high latitude are more sensitive to climate change,and more attention should be invested in high latitude and high altitude areas.

How to accurately extract large-scale urban land?Establishment of an improved fully convolutional neural network model

Realizing accurate perception of urban boundary changes is conducive to the formulation of regional development planning and researches of urban sustainable development.In this paper,an improved fully convolution neural network was provided for perceiving large-scale urban change,by modifying network structure and updating network strategy to extract richer feature information,and to meet the requirement of urban construction land extraction under the background of large-scale low-resolution image.This paper takes the Yangtze River Economic Belt of China as an empirical object to verify the practicability of the network,the results show the extraction results of the improved fully convolutional neural network model reached a precision of kappa coefficient of 0.88,which is better than traditional fully convolutional neural networks,it performs well in the construction land extraction at the scale of small and medium-sized cities.

Plant Diversity Performance After Natural Restoration in Reclaimed Deyeuxia angustifolia Wetland

Deyeuxia angustifolia wetlands were widely distributed in the Sanjiang Plain in Northeast China. Due to strong demand for food production, large-area wetlands were reclaimed to farmlands, which threatened regional ecological security greatly. Since the 21 th century, returning farmlands to wetlands was widely adopted for natural restoration in the Sangjiang Plain. As the first reflection of wetland restoration, vegetation succession of restored D. angustifolia wetlands should be fully assessed. In this study, vegetation investigation was carried out in three restored D. angustifolia wetlands with 5, 8 and 12 yr restoration, respectively. Meanwhile, a natural D. angustifolia wetland was selected as reference wetland. Results showed that community composition changed greatly and there was visible community succession. Community dominant species changed from composite to gramineae as restoration time increasing.At first, weeds community appeared in the restored wetlands, especially the xerophytes developed to the pioneer species rapidly. And then, mesophytes and wetland species became the dominant species in the restored wetlands. Finally, wetland species, especially D. angustifolia, occupied the dominant position of restored community. Shannon-wiener index(H) and Simpson index(D) both decreased to close to natural D. angustifolia wetlands. Compared with natural D. angustifolia wetland, species composition and diversity in restored wetlands were more complex and higher. As restoration time increasing, there were not significant differences between community characteristics of restored wetlands and natural wetland. All these suggested that vegetation in reclaimed D. angustifolia wetland could be restored naturally, but its restored period is 10 yr at least. From another angle, it is important to protect current natural wetlands.
