Increasing root-lower characteristics improves drought tolerance in cotton cultivars at the seedling stage

Drought is an important abiotic stress factor in cotton *** root system architecture(RSA)of cotton shows high plasticity which can alleviate drought-related stress under drought stress(DS)conditions;however,this alleviation is cultivar ***,this study estimated the genetic variability of RSA in cotton under *** the paper-based growth system,we assessed the RSA variability in 80 cotton cultivars at the seedling stage,with 0 and10%polyethylene glycol 6000(PEG6000)as the control(CK)and DS treatment,*** analysis of 23 aboveground and root traits in the 80 cotton cultivars revealed different responses to *** the 10th day after DS treatment,the degree of variation in the RSA traits under DS(5–55%)was greater than that of CK(5–49%).The 80 cultivars were divided into drought-tolerant cultivars(group 1),intermediate drought-tolerant cultivars(group 2),and drought-sensitive cultivars(group 3)based on their comprehensive evaluation values of drought *** DS,the root lengthlower,root area-lower,root volume-lower,and root length density-lower were significantly reduced by 63,71,76,and 4%in the drought-sensitive cultivars compared to ***,the drought-tolerant cultivars maintained their root lengthlower,root area-lower,root volume-lower,and root length density–lower *** to CK,the root diameter(0–2 mm)-lower increased by 21%in group 1 but decreased by 3 and 64%in groups 2 and 3,respectively,under ***,the drought-tolerant cultivars displayed a plastic response under DS that was characterized by an increase in the root-lower *** resistance was positively correlated with the root area-lower and root length ***,the RSA of the different cotton cultivars varied greatly under ***,important root traits,such as the root-lower traits,provide great insights for exploring whether drought-tolerant cotton cultivars can effectively withstand adverse environment

Hydroxyapatite/palmitic acid superhydrophobic composite coating on AZ31 magnesium alloy with both corrosion resistance and bacterial inhibition

The coating-modified magnesium(Mg)alloys exhibit controllable corrosion resistance,but the insufficient antibacterial performance limits their clinical applications as degradable *** coatings show excellent performance in terms of both corrosion resistance and inhibition of bacterial adhesion and *** this work,a hydroxyapatite(HA)/palmitic acid(PA)superhydrophobic composite coating was fabricated on the Mg alloy by the hydrothermal technique and immersion *** HA/PA composite coating showed superhydrophobicity with a contact angle of 153°and a sliding angle of 2°.The coated Mg alloy exhibited excellent corrosion resistance in the simulated body fluid,with high polarization resistance(77.10 kΩ·cm^(2))and low corrosion current density((0.491±0.015)μA·cm^(-2)).Meanwhile,the antibacterial efficiency of the composite coating was over 98% against *** and *** in different *** results indicate that the construction of such superhydrophobic composite coating(HA/PA)on the Mg alloy can greatly improve the corrosion resistance of Mg alloy implants within the human body and avoid bacterial infection during the initial stages of implantation.

Glaucoma,the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide,is closely linked to aqueous overaccumulation and elevated intraocular pressure(IOP).For refractory glaucoma,aqueous shunts with valves are commonly implanted for effective aqueous drainage control and IOP ***,existing valved glaucoma implants have the disadvantages of inconsistent valve opening/closing pressures,poor long-term repeatability due to their reliance on moving parts,and complex architectures and fabrication ***,we propose a novel valving concept,the droplet Laplace valve(DLV),a three-dimensional printable moving-parts-free microvalve with customizable and consistent threshold valving *** DLV uses a flow discretization unit governed by capillarity,comprising a droplet-forming nozzle,and a separated reservoir to digitize continuous flow into quantifiable *** the classic one-time-use Laplace valves,the DLV's unique design allows for its *** opening pressure is adjustable by varying the nozzle size,like the classic Laplace valves(following the Young–Laplace equation),while the closing pressure can be modified by tuning the separation distance and the reservoir *** DLVs with customizable opening pressures from 5 to 11 mmHg have been demonstrated,with opening/closing pressure differences suppressed down to0.99).Preliminary ex vivo validation in an enucleated porcine eye confirms the DLV's efficiency in aqueous shunting and prompt IOP *** DLV technology holds great promise in glaucoma implants for IOP management and various microsystems for flow control.

Wideband spectrum sensing with a high-speed analog-digital converter(ADC) presents a challenge for practical *** Nyquist folding receiver(NYFR) is a promising scheme for achieving cost-effective real-time spectrum sensing,which is subject to the complexity of processing the modulated *** this case,a multipath NYFR architecture with a step-sampling rate for the different paths is *** different numbers of digital channels for each path are designed based on the Chinese remainder theorem(CRT).Then,the detectable frequency range is divided into multiple frequency grids,and the Nyquist zone(NZ) of the input can be obtained by sensing these ***,high-precision parameter estimation is performed by utilizing the NYFR *** with the existing methods,the scheme proposed in this paper overcomes the challenge of NZ estimation,information damage,many computations,low accuracy,and high false alarm *** simulation experiments verify the effectiveness of the proposed architecture in this paper.

BACKGROUND The clinical incidence of spinal infection is gradually increasing,and its onset is insidious,easily leading to missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis,which may lead to serious complications such as nervous system dysfunction,spinal instability and/or deformity,and cause a huge burden on society and *** identification of the causative agent and precision medicine will greatly reduce the suffering of *** present,the main pathogenic bacteria that cause spinal infection are Staphylococcus aureus,Streptococcus,Pneumococcus,Escherichia coli,and *** are no reports of spinal infection caused by Pseudomonas *** SUMMARY We report a 32-year-old female patient with spinal *** presented with flank pain,initially thought to be bone metastases or bone tuberculosis,and had a family background of *** clinical features and changes in imaging and laboratory tests led to the suspicion of thoracic spine *** of the lesion showed inflammation,tissue culture of the lesion was negative several times,and the possible pathogen-Pseudomonas fluorescens was found after gene sequencing of the *** patient recovered completely after a full course of antibiotic *** This report increases the range of pathogens involved in spinal infections,highlights the unique advantages of gene sequencing technology in difficult-todiagnose diseases,and validates conservative treatment with a full course of antibiotics for spinal infections without complications.

Olefin polymerization is one of the most im portant chemical reactions in *** work presents a strategy that emphasizes the synergistic meta/poro-steric hindrance of N-aryl groups and electronic effects in newly synthesized neutral salicylaldiminato nickel *** nickel(Ⅱ)catalysts exhibit exceptional thermostability,ranging from 30℃to 130℃,demonstrating enhanced catalytic activities and broadly regulated polyethylene molecular weights(3-341 kg·mol^(-1))and controlled polymer branch density(2-102 brs/1000C).The preferred catalyst Ni3 with concerted steric and electronic effects enables the production of solid-state semi-crystalline polyethylene materials at temperatures below 90℃.Notably,Ni3 exhibits an impressive tolerance of 110℃and can withstand even the challenging polymerization temperature of 130℃,leading to the production of polyethylene wax and ***,functionalized polyethylene is produced.

Dinitrophenyl-oxadiazole compounds:Design strategy,synthesis,and properties of a series of new melt-cast explosives

Melt-cast explosives are the most widely used energetic materials in military composite explosives,researchers have been unremittingly exploring high-energy and insensitive melt-cast *** this work,a series of dinitrophenyl-oxadiazole compounds were designed and *** compounds have an ideal low melting point(80-97℃),good detonation performance(detonation velocity D=6455-6971 m/s,detonation pressure P=18-19 GPa)and extreme insensitive nature(impact sensitivity≥60 J,friction sensitivity>360 N).All these compounds were well characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance,fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,elemental *** 2,3 were unambiguously confirmed by X-ray single crystal diffraction *** a result,their overall properties are superior to traditional melt-cast explosives trinitrotoluene(TNT)and dinitroanisole(DNAN)which may have excellent potential applications in insensitive melt-cast explosives.

Highly efficient nitrogen fixation over S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts with enhanced active hydrogen supply

Photocatalytic N2fixation is a promising strategy for ammonia（NH3） synthesis;however,it suffers from relatively low ammonia yield due to the difficulty in the design of photocatalysts with both high charge transfer efficiency and desirable N2adsorption/activation ***,an S-scheme CoSx/ZnS heterojunction with dual active sites is designed as an efficient N2fixation *** CoSx/ZnS heterojunction exhibits a unique pocket-like nanostructure with small ZnS nanocrystals adhered on a single-hole CoSxhollow *** the heterojunction,the ele ctronic interaction between ZnS and CoSxcreates electron-deficient Zn sites with enhanced N2chemisorption and electron-sufficient Co sites with active hydrogen supply for N2hydrogenation,cooperatively reducing the energy barrier for *** combination with the promoted photogenerated electron-hole separation of the S-scheme heterojunction and facilitated mass transfer by the pocket-like nanostructure,an excellent N2fixation performance with a high NH3yield of 1175.37 μmol g-1h-1is *** study provides new insights into the design of hetero junction photocatalysts for N2fixation.

The RNA-binding domain of DCL3 is required for long-distance RNAi signaling

Small RNA(sRNA)-mediated RNA silencing(also known as RNA interference,or RNAi)is a conserved mechanism in eukaryotes that includes RNA degradation,DNA methylation,heterochromatin formation and protein translation *** plants,sRNAs can move either cell-to-cell or systemically,thereby acting as mobile silencing signals to trigger noncell autonomous ***,whether and what proteins are also involved in noncell autonomous silencing have not been *** this study,we utilized a previously reported inducible RNAi plant,PDSi,which can induce systemic silencing of the endogenous PDS gene,and we demonstrated that DCL3 is involved in systemic PDS silencing through its RNA binding *** confirmed that the C-terminus of DCL3,including the predicted RNA-binding domain,is capable of binding short *** affecting RNA binding,but not processing activity,reduced systemic PDS silencing,indicating that DCL3 binding to RNAs is required for the induction of systemic *** mosaic virus infection assays showed that the RNA-binding activity of DCL3 is required for antiviral RNAi in systemically noninoculated *** findings demonstrate that DCL3 acts as a signaling agent involved in noncell autonomous silencing and an antiviral effect in addition to its previously known function in the generation of 24-nucleotide sRNAs.
