Compositional evolution for mixed aerosols containing gluconic acid and typical nitrate and the effect of multiply factors on hygroscopicity

The aging process of atmospheric aerosols usually leads to a mixture of inorganic salts and organic compounds of anthropogenic origin.In organic compounds,polyhydroxy organic acids are important components,however,the study on composition and hygroscopic properties of the mixture containing inorganics and polyhydroxy organic acids is scanty.In this study,gluconic acid,the proxy of polyhydroxy organic acids,is mixed with the representative nitrate(Mg(NO_(3))_(2),Ca(NO_(3))_(2))to form aerosols.ATR-FTIR and optical microscopy are employed to study the component changes and hygroscopicity as a function of relative humidity.As relative humidity fluctuates,the FTIR-ATR spectra display that the internal mixed gluconic acid(CH_(2)(CH)_(4)(OH)_(5)COOH)and nitrate can react to release acidic gases,forming relevant gluconate and further affecting the hygroscopicity.The specific presentation is particles cannot be recovered to their original size after the dehydration-hydration process and there will be some disparities in GF for mixed particles.For the gluconic acid-Ca(NO_(3))_(2)/Mg(NO_(3))_(2)mixtures with molar ratios of 1:1,higher degree of reaction resulting in the production of large amounts of gluconate should be responsible to the lower hygroscopicity compared to ZSR model.For 1:2 gluconic acid-nitrate mixed systems(with higher nitrate content),the hygroscopicity of mixtures are higher than the ZSR prediction.A possible reason could be‘salt-promoting effect’on the organic fractions of the surplus inorganic salt in the mixture.These data can improve the chemical composition list evaluation,in turn hygroscopic properties and phase state of atmospheric aerosol,and then the climate effect.

In this study,the authors consider an M/M/1 queuing system with attached inventory under an(s,S)control policy.The server takes multiple vacations whenever the inventory is depleted.It is assumed that the lead time and the vacation time follow exponential distributions.The authors formulate the model as a quasi-birth-and-dearth(QBD)process and derive the stability condition of the system.Then,the stationary distribution in product form for the joint process of the queue length,the inventory level,and the server’s status is obtained.Furthermore,the conditional distributions of the inventory level when the server is on and operational,and when it is off due to a vacation,are derived.Using the stationary distribution,the authors obtain some performance measures of the system.The authors investigate analytically the effect of the server’s vacation on the performance measures.Finally,several numerical examples are presented to investigate the effects of some parameters on the performance measures,the optimal policy,and the optimal cost.

Design of heat treatments is related to the key technology for development of nickel-based single crystal superalloys(Ni-SXs). Based on the full understanding of the solidification characteristics, this work applies optimization design of heat treatments for a second-generation Ni-SX. Microstructure evolution and creep properties are compared in the material under conventional/standard(Std.) and optimized(Opt.) treatments. For the Std. sample,strong dendritic segregations determine inconsistent microstructure evolution in the dendritic(D) and interdendritic region(ID), while the latter serves as weak area to have the prior microcrack initiation, damaging overall performance of the alloy. The Opt. treatment applies higher homogenization temperature, leading to overall reduced segregations, while not inducing incipient melting. A lower temperature of first-step ageing is used to lower the size ofγ'particles. These help to form the more uniform microstructure in dendritic and interdendritic region and relieve the inconsistent microstructure evolution. The balanced local strength makes ID no longer as the weak area,thus restricting microcrack initiation. Great improvement of high temperature and low stress property is obtained by this progress, leading to the pronounced increase of creep rupture life under 1100 °C/140 MPa.

The photocatalytic oxidative coupling of thiols is one of the most popular methods to synthesize the disulfides.Triphenylamine and its derivatives(TPAs)are promising for the above reaction,but suffer from the easy polymerization and difficult separation.To overcome these obstacles while controlling the photogenerated electrons transfer directly to target substrates,herein,we constructed one TPA-based metal-organic framework(MOF),(Me_(2)NH_(2))[Sr(TCBPA)]·DMA·3H_(2)O(1),by direct self-assembly of tris(4′-carboxybiphenyl)amine(H_(3)TCBPA)and photoredox inert strontium ion(Sr^(2+)).DFT calculations revealed that the valence band maximum(VBM)and the conduction band minimum(CBM)are mainly located on TCBPA^(3-),successfully inhibiting the undesirable electron migration to metal nodes.Experimental results indicated that 1 displays superior performance than homogeneous H_(3)TCBPA,which may result from the abundant π…π and C—H…π interactions between the well-arranged TCBPA^(3-)and the build-in electric field between the anionic framework and the Me_(2)NH^(2+).This work highlights that immobilizing TPAs into MOFs is one promising approach to designing heterogeneous photocatalysts for the synthesis of disulfides by oxidative coupling of thiols.

Orthogonal time-frequency space(OTFS)is a new modulation technique proposed in recent years for high Doppler wireless scenes.To solve the parameter estimation problem of the OTFS-integrated radar and communications system,we propose a parameter estimation method based on sparse reconstruction preprocessing to reduce the computational effort of the traditional weighted subspace fitting(WSF)algorithm.First,an OTFS-integrated echo signal model is constructed.Then,the echo signal is transformed to the time domain to separate the target angle from the range,and the range and angle of the detected target are coarsely estimated by using the sparse reconstruction algorithm.Finally,the WSF algorithm is used to refine the search with the coarse estimate at the center to obtain an accurate estimate.The simulations demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed parameterestimation algorithm.

Oily wastewater from ocean oil spills endangers marine ecosystems and human health. Therefore, developing an effective and sustainable solution for separating oil-water mixtures is urgent. Interfacial solar photothermal evaporation is a promising approach for the complete separation of two-phase mixtures using only solar energy. Herein, we report a carbonized wood-based absorber with Janus structure of comprising a hydrophobic top-layer and an oleophobic bottom-layer for simultaneous solar-driven oil-water separation and electricity generation. Under sunlight irradiation, the rapid evaporation of seawater will induce a separation of oil-water mixtures, and cause a high salt concentration region underlying the interface, while the bottom “bulk water” maintains in a low salt concentration, thus forming a salinity gradient. Electricity can be generated by salinity gradient power. Therefore, oil-water separation efficiency of > 99% and derived extra electricity power of ~0.1 W/m2 is achieved under solar radiation, demonstrating the feasibility of oil-water separation and electricity production synchronously directly using solar energy. This work provides a green and cost-effective path for the separation of oil-water mixtures.

BACKGROUND Colorectal neuroendocrine neoplasms(NENs)are a rare malignancy that primarily arises from the diffuse distribution of neuroendocrine cells in the colon and rectum.Previous studies have pointed out that the status of lymph node may be used to predict the prognosis.AIM To investigate the predictive values of lymph node ratio(LNR),positive lymph node(PLN),and log odds of PLNs(LODDS)staging systems on the prognosis of colorectal NENs treated surgically,and compare their predictive values.METHODS This cohort study included 895 patients with colorectal NENs treated surgically from the Surveillance,Epidemiology,and End Results database.The endpoint was mortality of patients with colorectal NENs treated surgically.X-tile software was utilized to identify most suitable thresholds for categorizing the LNR,PLN,and LODDS.Participants were selected in a random manner to form training and testing sets.The prognosis of surgically treating colorectal NENs was examined using multivariate cox analysis to assess the associations of LNR,PLN,and LODDS with the prognosis of colorectal NENs.C-index was used for assessing the predictive effectiveness.We conducted a subgroup analysis to explore the different lymph node staging systems’predictive values.RESULTS After adjusting all confounding factors,PLN,LNR and LODDS staging systems were linked with mortality in patients with colorectal NENs treated surgically(P<0.05).We found that LODDS staging had a higher prognostic value for patients with colorectal NENs treated surgically than PLN and LNR staging systems.Similar results were obtained in the different G staging subgroup analyses.Furthermore,the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve values for LODDS staging system remained consistently higher than those of PLN or LNR,even at the 1-,2-,3-,4-,5-and 6-year follow-up periods.CONCLUSION LNR,PLN,and LODDS were found to significantly predict the prognosis of patients with colorectal NENs treated surgically.

Comparison of corrosion mechanisms of 510L low alloy steel treated by ACS and EPS techniques under various service environments

The corrosion mechanism of 510L low alloy steel treated by acid-cleaned surface(ACS)and eco-pickled surface(EPS)techniques in three simulated solutions(S0:atmospheric environment;S1:soil environment;S2:industrial environment)and the influence of interaction between different corrosive anions on corrosion were investigated.The results show that the total corrosion rates of samples in three simulated solutions were in order of S2>S0>S1,which is simultaneously correlated with initial corrosion dissolution processes as well as after the formation of corrosion products.HCO3−will inhibit the initial corrosion owing to the formation of films,whereas HSO3−will accelerate the dissolutions of the matrix based on the synergistic action of HSO3−and Cl−.On the other hand,there is no significant difference in corrosion rates between the samples treated by ACS and EPS techniques.The EPS technique that is safe,reusable and environmentally friendly can be further widely used in future work.

Testing Linearity in Functional Partially Linear Models

For the functional partially linear models including flexible nonparametric part and functional linear part,the estimators of the nonlinear function and the slope function have been studied in existing literature.How to test the correlation between response and explanatory variables,however,still seems to be missing.Therefore,a test procedure for testing the linearity in the functional partially linear models will be proposed in this paper.A test statistic is constructed based on the existing estimators of the nonlinear and the slope functions.Further,we prove that the approximately asymptotic distribution of the proposed statistic is a chi-squared distribution under some regularity conditions.Finally,some simulation studies and a real data application are presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed test statistic.
