Three subspecies of Black-tailed Godwit share non-breeding sites in the world's largest river delta

During the non-breeding season(September–April), Black-tailed Godwits(Limosa limosa) are commonly seen in coastal and inland wetlands of the Ganges-Brahmaputra-meghna Delta in Bangladesh. We hypothesize that the Ganges-Brahmaputra-meghna Delta, at the overlap between the Central Asian and east Asian–Australasian flyways, may host three subspecies that breed in disjunct areas of temperate and northern Asia: L. l. limosa, L. l. melanuroides, and L. l. bohaii. We used mitochondrial DNA(mt DNA) haplotype network and biometric analysis to dete.m.ne subspecies in captured individuals, and deployed GPS–GSm transmitters to verify breeding areas of individuals with subspecies assignments. To test for differential habitat preferences, we sampled birds at two ecologically distinct habitats known to host the largest concentrations of non-breeding Black-tailed Godwits in Bangladesh: Nijhum Dweep National Park, a tidal coastal habitat with brackish water on the south-central coast, and Tanguar Haor(‘backmarsh'), a seasonal freshwater floodplain in the north. During the non-breeding seasons of 2021–2022 and 2022–2023, we sampled and measured 93 Black-tailed Godwits, 54 of which were equipped with GPS–GSm transmitters. Our mt DNA haplotype network analysis confirmed the presence of limosa, melanuroides, and bohaii subspecies at the study sites. Thus, indeed, Black-tailed Godwits subspecies, despite having distinct breeding ranges, exhibit(partially) overlapping non-breeding ranges in Asia. The subspecies composition differed significantly between sites, with limosa and bohaii dominating in Tanguar Haor and melanuroides in Nijhum Dweep. Of the 21 individuals that were tracked to their breeding grounds, 18 migrated to the expected breeding range of their respective subspecies. However, one bird with a limosa haplotype.m.grated to a known breeding area of bohaii, whereas two birds with melanuroides haplotypes migrated to the supposed breeding range of limosa. Reclamation of Smaller Volumes of Petrole.m.Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soil Using an Innovative Reactor System: A Case Study evaluation of the Design

Petrole.m.products contamination is a world-wide problem that threatens polluting groundwater and surface water systems. However, the problem is not only large-scale in scope when viewed from a case-by-case basis. many fueling, construction, agricultural, and industrial activities result in the problem of managing smaller quantities of these soils from an ecological safety perspective. Landfilling has been the disposal method of choice in the US;however, this option is becoming economically prohibitive and it does not really offer a true degradation fate for the pollutants. This study focused on the proving of an innovative biocell design that afforded a high level of petrole.m.degradation within a simple and cost effective design. Additionally, the design offered a remediation solution for sites not easily accessed. Soil contaminated with both diesel fuel and gasoline collected from a former filling station was used in this on-site remediation case study. Rapid biodegradation of the petrole.m.products were observed at the initiation of the study with rates leveling off as the study progressed with the final total petrole.m.hydrocarbon concentration being 10 mg/kg at Day 90. Oxygen uptake rates were.m.nitored and found to nicely track both microbial activity and pollutant removal dynamics. The biocell design met all expectations by being effective, yet simple to build and operate.

Accuracy and outcome of rapid ultrasound in shock and hypotension （RUSH） in egyptian polytrauma patients

Purpose：＂Polytrauma＂ patients are of a higher risk of complications and death than the summation of expected mortality and morbidity of their individual injuries. The ideal goal in trauma resuscitation care is to identify and treat all injuries. With clinical and technological advanced imaging available for diagnosis and treatment of traumatic patients, point of care-rapid ultrasound in shock and hypotension （RUSH） significantly affects modern trauma services and patient outcomes. This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of RUSH and patient outcomes by early detection of the causes of unstable polytrauma. methods： This cross-sectional, prospective study included 100 unstable polytrauma patients admitted in Suez Canal University Hospital. Clinical exam, RUSH and pan-computed tomography （pan-CT） were conducted. The result of CT was taken as the standard. Patients were.m.naged according to the advanced trauma life support （ATLS） guidelines and treated of life threatening conditions if present. Patients were followed up for 28 days for a short outcome. Results： The.m.st diagnostic causes of unstability in polytrauma patients by RUSH are hypovolemic shock （64%）, followed by obstructive shock （14%）, distributive shock （12%） and cardiogenic shock （10%） respectively. RUSH had 94.2% sensitivity in the diagnosis of unstable polytrauma patients; the accuracy of RUSH in shock patients was 95.2%. Conclusion： RUSH is accurate in the diagnosis of unstable polytrauma patients; and 4% of patients were diagnosed during follow-up after admission by RUSH and pan-CT.
