Object: Incidence of Idiopathic chronic hydrocephalus of the adult (ICHA) is increasing in Guinea due to the aging of the population. The goal of this study was to describe its epidemiology, clinical presentation, and surgical outcome in a low-resource medical environment. Method: Sixteen patients operated for a probable ICHA were prospectively studied according to a uniform protocol from June 2019 to December 2020. On computerized tomography, all operated patients had a clinical triad of gait disturbance, incontinence, dementia associated with ventriculomegaly, and transependymal edema. In addition, all patients underwent a single lumbar tap, improved clinically, and were subsequently offered a shunt consisting of a simple catheter in 37.5% and a non-adjustable high-pressure valve in 62.5%. Result: The mean age was 68.31 ± 10.4 (range 49 - 89). The sex ratio H/F was 1.67/1. Clinically, the most frequent comorbidity was a combination of hypertension and diabetes in 56.5% of cases. ont-family:Verdana;">The mean time to diagnosis was 8.31 ± 2.75 months (range 3 - 14). Improving Radar Rainfall Estimation by Accounting for microphysical Processes Using a micro Rain Radar in West Africa

This study evaluates the improvement of the radar Quantitative Precipitation Estimation (QPE) by involving microphysical processes in the determination of Z-R algorithms. Within the framework of the AMMA campaign, measurements of an X-band radar (Xport), a vertical pointing Micro Rain Radar (MRR) to investigate microphysical processes and a dense network of rain gauges deployed in Northern Benin (West Africa) in 2006 and 2007 were used as support to establish such estimators and evaluate their performance compared to other estimators in the literature. By carefully considering and correcting MRR attenuation and calibration issues, the Z-R estimator developed with the contribution of microphysical processes and non-linear least-squares adjustment proves to be more efficient for quantitative rainfall estimation and produces the best statistic scores than other optimal Z-Ront-family:Verdana;"> algorithms in the literature. We also find that it gives results comparable to some polarimetric algorithms including microphysical information through DSD integrated parameter retrievals.

Despite the widespread domestic use of pyrethroid insecticides, very few cases of poisoning are reported in the literature, especially in children. The manifestations are generally benign, and the management is controversial. We report a case of severe intoxication in a 2-month-old infant, initially treated as bronchiolitis, which progressed favorably under atropine. This case illustrates on the one hand the importance of looking for the notion of a spray in the sudden onset of respiratory distress in the infant, and on the other hand monitoring any intoxication with pyrethroids in a small infant in order to consider a treatment with atropine sulfate in case of the occurrence of a muscarinic syndrome.

Atrial Fibrillation during Cerebral Infarction in Brazzaville: Frequency and Predictive Factors

In order to contribute to the improvement of brain infarction management in Brazzaville, a cross-sectional and analytical study with prospective data collection was conducted in the cardiology and neurology departments of the Brazzaville University Hospital, from February 1 to July 31, 2018. It included patients hospitalized for cerebral infarction confirmed with imaging, and having done an etiological assessment with at least one electrocardiogram at rest and one of long duration. Among these 138 patients included, 11 had atrial fibrillation, equaling?a frequency of 7.9%. The mean age of AF patients was 71 ± 8.8 years. The cardiovascular risk factors found were hypertension in eight cases (72.7%), diabetes in five cases (45.5%), abdominal obesity in four cases (36.4%). AF was permanent in 10 cases (91%), and paroxysmal in one case (9%). It was valvular in three cases (27.3%) and non-valvular in eight cases (72.7%). The cardiopathy involved was hypertensive in seven cases (63.6%), ischemic and valvular in two cases each. The CHA2DS2-VASc score, calculated in eight patients, was an average of 2.2, and ≥2 in more than 80% of patients;HAS-BLED score of 2.4 on average was ≥?3 in more than 72% of patients. Digoxin was prescribed in seven cases (63.6%) and an anti-vitamin K in eight cases (72.7%). In multivariate analysis, age (oR = 20.10, p = 0.023), arterial hypertension (oR = 23.82, p = 0.011), and dyslipidemia (oR = 2.03, p = 0.032) were the predictive factors found. AF is infrequent during brain infarction in Brazzaville. This systematic research raises the problem of age in our context.

河源市龙川县远东花园4号楼为22层框架结构楼房,系违章建筑需爆破拆除。紧挨楼房5 m处有一栋3层别墅,别墅的围墙与待拆除楼房只有0.5 m,需防止楼房产生后座。根据周围环境条件,采用定向倾倒的方式爆破拆除,采用梯形爆破缺口,爆破高度13.5 m。为确定最佳延期时间,用ANSYS/LS-DYNA对排间延期时间300 ms、500 ms和800 ms三种方案进行了模拟,根据模拟结果,确定最佳延期时间为300 ms。起爆时,利用多台高级数码相机、无人机、高清摄像机等从不同方位和角度抓拍了楼房爆破运动及解体的全过程。通过数值模拟与爆破实际对比分析,发现二者在楼房倒塌姿态、观测点的运动轨迹、解体程度、爆堆形态和堆积范围都十分接近,数值模拟的结果的准确性和可靠性满足工程要求。

Assessment of Hydraulic Parameters and Protection Zones of Catchment Aquifers for Water Supply Network in NdéDivision, West-Cameroon (Central Africa)

Ndé Division in West-Cameroon is facing with water supply although many attempts of restoring existing SCANWATER facilities by Bangangté municipality. In order to address the issue, we assess the exploitable pumping flow rate of catchment aquifers and its hydraulic properties by using Jacob and Theis method, and define protection zones with Hoffman and Lillich method. It emerges that the hydraulic conductivity of aquifer is in the order of 10-4 m/sec, transmissivity varies from 10-4 to 10-6 m2/sec. Aquifer pumping flow rate (Q) varies between 1.5 and 10.5 m3/h. In volcanic rocks, aquifer is more productive (4.5 ≤ Q ≤ 10.5 m3/h). Transfer time of pollutants to aquifer varies from 3 to 56 days depending on rock-types and groundwater slope (0.03 - 0.13 m/m). Furthermore, 113,624 m and 1123 m are radius to be implemented for a better protection of groundwater against any form of pollutant.

ong>Introduction:ong> The role of immunosuppression of TCD4+ lymphocytes in the onset of stroke in people living with HIV has been reported in numerous studies examining the co-morbidity of stroke and HIV. objective: To determine the correlation between the viral load and the type of stroke. ong>methodology:ong> This was a 7-month cross-sectional descriptive study carried out in the Neurology Department of Loandjili General Hospital in Pointe-Noire. The study population consisted of patients living with HIV who had a stroke confirmed by brain scan. The sero-immunological investigation consisted of looking for T lymphocyte typing from two kits: a CD4+ T lymphocyte typing reagent kit (BD FACS Presto Tm) and a GeneXpert kit for viral load (Xpert®HIV-1 Viral Load). The database was made from the 2010 version of microsoft Excel. ong>Results:ong> We included 16 patients living with HIV, 56% of whom were women with a sex ration of 0.78. The mean age was 56.92 ± 11.21. The mean number of TCD4+ lymphocytes was 413.44 ± 677.95/mm3;minimum: 93/mm3;maximum: 2854/mm3. The mean viral load was 17,996.31 ± 20,982.22/mm3;minimum: 1002/mm3;maximum: 67,229/mm3. No significant difference between the viral load and the occurrence of the stroke (p = 0.13). ong>Conclusion:ong> our study did not show a causal link between viral load, immunosuppression of TCD4+ lymphocytes and the onset of stroke.

Elaboration and Characterization of a Composite material Based on <i>Canarium schweinfurthii</i>Engl Cores with a Polyester matrix

The aim of this work was to develop and characterize a polyester matrix composite material based on Canarium schweinfurthii Engl core granule. The particle size and the mass fractions of these cores used as fillers in this composite were the two optimization parameters. The experimentation of the twelve sample areas was based on the following optimization parameters: Three particles sizes of 80 1 2 3 ·m-3, which allows us to admit that this composite belongs to the family of light materials. The maximum compressive stress at break was obtained for the formulation 40% filler of size T3. This compressive stress at maximum rupture is in the range of 199.14 mPa. From 0% to 45% of filler, the flexural Young’s modulus of the composite increases whatever the particle size. The highest value is obtained for T2 particle size, i.e. 13.11 GPa. The static friction coefficient of the composite on wood increases as the filler content varies from 0.30 to 0.42. Thus, in view of the properties obtained, this composite can be used as alternative solutions in industrial applications, for the manufacturing of shoe heel, house ceiling, floors for housing and table support.

Factors Associated with High Blood Pressure in People Living with HIV at the National Teaching Hospital Hubert Koutoukou maga and Cotonou Teaching Hospital of the Armed Forces

In Benin Republic, few data are available on the prevalence and determinants of arterial hypertension (AH) in people living with the human immunodeficiency virus (PLWHA). The present study was conducted in two outpatient treatment centers for PLWHA in Cotonou and was conducted from June 19 to July 04, 2019 with 314 PLWHA. We performed descriptive statistics and logistic regression for the estimates. The prevalence of high blood pressure (HBP) among PLWHA was 41.4% [CI (95%): (35.9 - 47)]. In univariate analysis: age, smoking, alcoholism, physical inactivity, family history of hypertension, personal history of diabetes, obesity, and total and LDL (low density lipoprotein) hypercholesterolemia were significantly associated with HBP. No association was found with duration of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) infection, time to ARV (antiretrovirals) exposure, and treatment regimen. In multivariate analysis, age, sex, smoking, family history of hypertension, and total hypercholesterolemia remained associated with HBP. In conclusion, the prevalence of HBP in PLWHA was very high compared with the results in the general population, and the same risk factors described in the general population were found but with a more marked hypertense potential.

Human papillomaviruses (HPV) are at the origin of many mucosal, benign or malignant skin pathologies. Some so-called high-risk genotypes, especially types 16 and 18, are involved in the genesis of cervical cancer, one of the most common cancers in women. To determine the prevalence of HPV infections and to identify oncogenic genotypes circulating in the departments of Niari and Bouenza. A total of 207 cervical samples collected between 2019 and 2020 were studied. Cervico vaginal smears were performed on all samples for cytological analysis, and HPV DNA detection and genotyping were performed on GeneXpert. The average age of the women who participated in this study was 43.67 ± 12.31 years in Niari and 38.29 ± 10.52 in Bouenza with age intervals ranging from 18 to 80 years. Cytological analysis of these samples reported the following prevalences: Normal diagnosed in 89.58% (186/207) cases, ASCUS in 5.31% (11/207) cases, LSIL in 2.89% (6/207) cases, and ICC in 1.93% (4/207) cases. The prevalence of HPV infection was detected in 83.54% (66/186) of women without lesions, 6.32% (5/11) of ASCUS women and 10.12% (8/10) of women with cytological abnormalities [5.06% (4/6) LSIL, and 5.06% (4/4) ICC]. In total, 79 of the 207 women in our study tested positive for one or more HPV-HR types, or 38.16%. In the department of Niari 37.5% (48/128) women tested positive for HPV, and in the department of Bouenza 39.24% (31/79) tested positive for HPV. multiple infections ranged from two to more than three strains of HPV. No statistically significant association was observed between socio-demographic characteristics and genotyping (p > 0.05). on the other hand, HPV-HR prevalence varied significantly according to cervical cytology (p = 0.001). The results obtained show the predominance of HPV 16 in women in these two departments of Congo.
