The effect of pre-strain on phase transformation of TiNi shape memory alloy film was studied by differential scanning calorimeter measurement (DSC). Compared with un-defarmed TiNi film, the reverse transformation of pre-strained specimens was elevated to a higher temperature on the first heating, but martensite and reverse transformation on subsequent thermal cycles occurred at a lower temperature. The evolution of transformation behavior in pre-strained TiNi film was related to the change of elastic strain energy, irreversible energy and internal stress field.

Phase transformation behavior of Ti50-x/2Ni50-x/2Cux (x=2, 5, 15) alloys was investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The results show that Ti50-x/2Ni50-x/2Cux alloys undergo a two-stage martensitic transformation on cooling and transform reversely in one stage on heating when treated at 823K for 5 hours. Heat treatment has no effect on the transformation behavior of Ti49Ni49Cu2 alloy but does influence that of Ti47.5Ni47.5Cu5 alloy and Ti42.5Ni42.5Cu15 alloy. Effect of heat treatment is related with precipitation of CuNiTi phase. The maximum recoverable elongation of Ti49Ni49Cu2 wire is about 6%.

Two distinct regimes of strain rate sensitivity on yield strength are found in a high-strength nantwinned *** yield strength increases from 1410 to 1776 MPa when the strain rate increases from 10–3 to 1400 *** is proposed from the measured small activation volume that the yielding of the nanotwinned steel at higher strain rates is governed by the dislocation bowing out from the carbon *** lower strain rates,however,the yielding is controlled by the continuous re-pinning of dislocations due to the fast diffused carbon atoms,which leads to the relative insensitivity of yield strength to the strain rate.

The possibility of using Pb-electroplated reticulated SiC as the positive current collector for lead-acid batteries was investigated. Reticulated SiC with two aperture sizes (3 and 2mm) were tested as the substrate of positive electrode. It was found that the reticulated SiC has an excellent corrosion resistance in H2SO4 solution, and the Pb layer electroplated on reticulated SiC showed analogous electrochemical behavior to metal Pb. Preliminary test of the battery performance indicated that the utilization efficiency of the positive active mass of new designed batteries are improved compared with the conventional batteries. The improvement could be ascribed to the high specific surface area of the reticulated structured positive current collector, which was further supported by the even better performance of the battery made from a smaller aperture size (2mm) reticulated SiC as the substrate of the positive electrode.

Scaling of silicon field-effect transistors has fueled the exponential development of microelectronics in the past 60 years,but is now close to its physical limits with the critical dimensions of state-of-the-art silicon devices approaching the sub-10 nm *** nanotubes have been suggested to hold great promise of replacing the central role of silicon in the next-generation logic switches with their unique geometrical and electrical *** this article,I firstly examine the scaling advantages of carbon nanotubes compared to silicon from technology-development perspective,and then review the latest progress on addressing the manufacturability issues for scaled carbon-nanotube transistors,from materials to device-integration ***,the possible pathways for nanotube transistors to transition into commercial applications are discussed.

The electrochemical features of commercial airfrarne material, Al alloy LY12, in 0.349mol/L neutral sodium chloride (NaCl) and sodium sulfate (NazSO^) solutions were investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiody-namic polarization techniques. The microstructure of the as-tested samples was studied by scanning electron microscopy. The results show that the Nyquist plots of LY12 at different immersion time displayed different features, indicating that the Cl- ions elevate the corrosion rate and inhibit the repassivation of a metastable pit. It also shows that the corrosion product of LY12 formed in SO42- solution isn't easy to dissolve, and it will cover the surface of working electrode in the electrolyte. SEM images indicate that the corrosion apparent area and pit number of LY12 in NaCl solution are greater than that in Na2SO4 solution.

One of the main tasks of post-genomic informatics is to systematically investigate all mole- cules and their interactions within a living cell so as to understand how these molecules and the interactions between them relate to the function of the organism, while networks are appropriate abstract description of all kinds of interactions. In the past few years, great achievement has been made in developing theory of complex networks for revealing the organizing prin- ciples that govern the formation and evolution of various complex biological, technological and social networks. This paper reviews the accomplishments in constructing genome-based metabolic networks and describes how the theory of complex networks is applied to analyze metabolic networks.

The single-phase face-centered cubic(fcc)-structured Fe_(50)Mn_(27)Ni_(10)Cr_(13) high entropy alloy(HEA)exhibits good ductility but low strength,which presents a *** Mo-alloying and thermomechanical treatments,we have designed the(Fe_(50)Mn_(27)Ni_(10)Cr_(13))_(100-x)Mo_(x)(x=0-6 at.%)alloy series with a wide range of mechanical *** careful control of secondary phases introduced in the cold-rolled and annealed(Fe_(50)Mn_(27)Ni_(10)Cr_(13))Mo_(2) sample resulted in an enhanced tensile strength from 250 MPa to 665 MPa,still having~25%*** investigations of this alloy revealed the presence of deformation twins,dislocation cells,and ordered bcc na no-pa rticles embedded in the ductile fcc matrix *** observed deformation structures are an indication of succes s ful cooperation between deformation twinning and precipitation strengthening in enhancing the tensile strength at maintained ductility compared to its cast *** work provides insight into the tunability of the mechanical properties of non-equiatomic HEAs via alloying and thermomechanical processing.
