Acceleration of 60 MeV proton beams in the commissioning experiment of the SULF-10 pW laser

We report the experimental results of the commissioning phase in the 10 pW laser beamline of the Shanghai Superintense Ultrafast Laser Facility(SULF).The peak power reaches 2.4 pW on target without the last amplifying during the *** laser energy of 72±9 J is directed to a focal spot of approximately 6μm diameter(full width at half maximum)in 30 fs pulse duration,yielding a focused peak intensity around 2.0×10^(21)W/cm^(2).The first laser-proton acceleration experiment is performed using plain copper and plastic ***-energy proton beams with maximum cut-off energy up to 62.5 MeV are achieved using copper foils at the optimum target thickness of 4μm via target normal sheath *** plastic targets of tens of nanometers thick,the proton cut-off energy is approximately 20 MeV,showing ring-like or flamented density *** experimental results reflect the capabilities of the SULF-10 pW beamline,for example,both ultrahigh intensity and relatively good beam *** optimization for these key parameters is underway,where peak laser intensities of 10^(22)-10^(23)w/cm^(2)are anticipated to support various experiments on extreme field physics.

The production of solar fuels via the photoreduction of carbon dioxide to methane by titanium oxide is a promising process to control greenhouse gas emissions and provide alternative renewable fuels. Although several reaction mechanisms have been proposed, the detailed steps are still ambiguous, and the limiting factors are not well defined. To improve our understanding of the mechanisms of carbon dioxide photoreduction, a multiphysics model was developed using COMSOL. The novelty of this work is the computational fluid dynamic model combined with the novel carbon dioxide photoreduction intrinsic reaction kinetic model, which was built based on three-steps, namely gas adsorption, surface reactions and desorption, while the ultraviolet light intensity distribution was simulated by the Gaussian distribution model and Beer-Lambert model. The carbon dioxide photoreduction process conducted in a laboratory-scale reactor under different carbon dioxide and water moisture partial pressures was then modeled based on the intrinsic kinetic model. it was found that the simulation results for methane, carbon monoxide and hydrogen yield match the experiments in the concentration range of 10^(−4) mol·m^(–3) at the low carbon dioxide and water moisture partial pressure. Finally, the factors of adsorption site concentration, adsorption equilibrium constant, ultraviolet light intensity and temperature were evaluated.

The structure, magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of the Ge-rich Gd5Ge2.05-xSi1.95-xMn2x （x=0.01 and 0.03） alloys were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, differential scanning calorimeter （DSC） and magnetization measurements. The results of energy dispersive X-ray analysis （EDX） and X-ray diffraction analyses showed that the composition and crystal structure of the alloys were desired. DSC measurements were performed to determine the transformation temperatures for each alloy. Both alloys exhibited the first order phase transition around room temperature. The alloys showed an anti-ferromagnetic transition around 60 K. The isothermal magnetic entropy changes of the alloys were determined from the isothermal magnetization measurements by using the Maxwell relation. The maximum values of isothermal magnetic entropy change of the Gd5Ge2.05-xSi1.95-xMn2x alloy with x=0.01 was found to be -12.1 and -19.8 J/（kg·K） using Maxwell equation around 268 K in applied fields of 2 and 5 T, respectively.

in order to study the production of porous silica compacts by the combustion of rice husk ash （RHA） for tundish lining, the experimental design technique was used to evaluate the effect of firing temperature, soaking time and compaction pressure on controlling both the porosity degree and compressive strength of rice husk ash compacts. The results revealed that while the porosity degree of the compacts decreased with the increase in the entire studied parameters, the compressive strength exhibited another trend especially at a lower soaking time. At a lower soaking time, the increase in firing temperature led to a slight decrease in compressive strength and then increasing thereafter. The porous silica compacts having 30% porosity and 〉 2.5 Mpa compressive strength suitable for tundish lining could be obtained from the combustion of rice husk ash compacts.

We have studied the optical spectra of low-dimensional semiconductor systems by calculating all possible optical transitions between electronic states. Optical absorption and emission have been obtained under different carrier population conditions and in different photon wavelengths. The line-shapes of the peaks in the optical spectrum are determined by the density of electronic states of the system, and the symmetries and intensities of these peaks can be improved by reducing the dimensionality of the system. Optical gain requires in general a population inversion, whereas for a quantum-dot system, there exists a threshold value of the population inversion.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

Fe_(72.4)Co_(13.9)Cr_(10.4)Mn_(2.7)B_(0.34)high entropy steel was prepared by magnetron *** alloy exhibits a high yield strength of 2.92±0.36 Gpa while achieving appreciable plasticity of 13.7±1.9%at the ultimate compressive strength(3.37±0.36 Gpa).The distribution of iron and chromium shows an un-usual,characteristic spinodal-like pattern at the nanometer scale,where compositions of Fe and Cr show strong anticorrelation and vary by as much as 20 at.%.The high strength is largely attributable to the compositional modulations,combined with fine grains with body-centered cubic(BCC)crystal structure,as well as grain boundary segregation of interstitial *** impressive plasticity is accommodated by the formation and operation of multiplanar,multicharacter dislocation slips,mediated by coherent in-terfaces,and controlled by shear *** excellent strength-ductility combination is thus enabled by a range of distinctive strengthening mechanisms,rendering the new alloy a potential candidate for safety-critical,load-bearing structural applications.

Enhancing the strength of Al-zn-Mg alloys is critical to the weight-lightening of structural components in the application of high-speed trains and aerospace industries,while high stress corrosion cracking(SCC)susceptibility of Al-zn-Mg alloys(especially the alloy with high recrystallization fraction)with high strength makes it *** this study,the influence of tensile stress-aging coupled with natural aging pre-treatment on the mechanical properties and SCC resistance of Al-zn-Mg alloy with high recrystallization fraction has been *** results show that tensile stress-aging at 160℃can inhibit the dissolution of clusters/Guinier-preston(Gp)zones formed during long-term natural aging pre-treatment,which increases the number density of matrix precipitates(Mpts),narrow the width of precipitate free zone(pFz),and dramatically improve the mechanical properties of the experimental Al-zn-Mg ***,the precipitation of the high density of Mpts within the matrix will assume a large number of solute atoms during artificial aging,which will reduce the supplement of solute atoms to grain *** a result,the volume of anodic active grain boundary precipitates(GBps)and the content of free solute atoms at grain boundaries are reduced,which reduces the possibility of initial nucleation and propagation of SCC *** coupled treatment method proposed in this study proves efficient in resolving the contradiction between the strength and SCC resistance in Al-zn-Mg alloy.
