Tailoring precipitation/properties and related mechanisms for a high-strength aluminum alloy plate via low-temperature retrogression and re-aging processes

The retrogression and re-aging(RRA)processes,aimed mainly at tailoring intergranular precipitates,could significantly improve the corrosion resistance(i.e.,stress corrosion cracking resistance)without considerably decreasing the strength,which signifies that an efficient control of the size,distribution and evolution of intergranular and intragranular precipitates becomes critical for the integrated properties of the(mid-)thick high-strength Al alloy *** to RRA process with retrogression at200℃ (T77),this study investigated the impact of a modified RRA process(MT77)with lower retrogression temperatures(155-175℃ )and first-stage under-aging on the properties of a high-strength AA7050 Al alloy,in combination with detailed precipitate *** study showed that the strength/microhardness of the RRA-treated alloys decreased with raising retrogression temperature and/or prolonging retrogression time,along with the increased electrical *** rapid responsiveness of microstructure/property typical of retrogression at 200℃ was obviously postponed or decreased by using MT77 process with longer retrogression time that was more suitable for treating the(mid-)thick *** the other hand,higher retrogression temperature facilitated more intragranularηprecipitates,coarse intergranular precipitates and wide precipitate free zones,which prominently increased the electrical conductivity alongside a considerable strength loss as compared to the MT77-treated *** the preferred MT77 process,the high strength approaching T6 level as well as good corrosion resistance was ***,though a relatively homogeneous through-thickness strength was obtained,some small discrepancies of properties between the central and surface areas of an 86-mm thick 7050 Al alloy plate were observed,possibly related to the quenching *** precipitate evolution and mechanistic connection to the properties were discussed and reviewed for high-strengt

Steady vortex force theory and slender-wing flow diagnosis

The concept vortex force in aerodynamics is sys- tematically examined based on a new steady vortex-force theory （Wu et al., Vorticity and vortex dynamics, Springer, 2006） which expresses the aerodynamic force （and moment） by the volume and boundary integrals of the Lamb vector. In this paper, the underlying physics of this theory is explored, including the general role of the Lamb vector in non- linear aerodynamics, its initial formation, and its relevance to the total-pressure non-uniformity. As a typical example, the theory is applied to the flow over a slender delta wing at a large angle of attack. The highly localized flow structures with high Lamb-vector peaks are identified in terms of their net contribution to various constituents of the total aerody-namic force. This vortex-force diagnosis sheds new light on the flow control and configuration optimization.

Grain refinement mechanism of Mg-3Sn-1Mn-1La alloy during accumulative hot rolling

We elucidate the effect of lanthanum(La) on the grain refinement of Mg-3 Sn-1 Mn alloy during accumulative hot rolling. The lath-shaped Mg_(2) Sn phase in the Mg-3 Sn-1 Mn alloy is firstly broken and spheroidized,and then the size increases and coarsens with the increase of rolling reduction, most of Mg_(2) Sn move from grain boundary to grain and are homogeneously distributed within the matrix. However, the plate-shaped Mg Sn La compound in Mg-3 Sn-1 Mn-1 La gradually becomes fine, spheroidized, and homogeneously distributed. The grain sizes of Mg-3 Sn-1 Mn and Mg-3 Sn-1 Mn-1 La alloys become fine through dynamic recrystallization(DRX), though the grain refinement of Mg-3 Sn-1 Mn-1 La alloy is better compared to the Mg-3 Sn-1 Mn alloy. A large number of uniformly distributed spherical Mg Sn La compounds pin the dislocations, thus increasing the dislocation density. hence, the driving force for DRX increases and promotes the formation of deformation bands and more twins, providing the sites for DRX nucleation and growth.

The compositional design of metallic glasses(MGs)is a long-standing issue in materials science and ***,traditional experimental approaches based on empirical rules are time consuming with a low *** this work,we successfully developed a hybrid machine learning(ML)model to address this fundamental issue based on a database containing~5000 different compositions of metallic glasses(either bulk or ribbon)reported since *** the prior works relying on empirical parameters for featurization of data,we designed modeling guided data descriptors in line with the recent theoretical models on amorphization in chemically complex alloys for the development of the hybrid classification-regression ML *** hybrid ML modeling was validated both numerically and *** importantly,it enabled the discovery of MGs(either bulk or ribbon)through the ML-aided deep search of a multitude of quaternary to scenery alloy *** computational framework herein established is expected to accelerate the design of MG compositions and expand their applications by probing the complex and multi-dimensional compositional space that has never been explored before.

Shear band evolution and mechanical behavior of cold-rolled zr-based amorphous alloy sheets:An in-situ study

Cold rolling process can regulate the microstructure and mechanical properties of amorphous alloys,but it is still a challenging task to reveal their microscopic ***,we designed an in-situ SEM observation device for the cold rolling process of amorphous alloy,and visually observed the formation and evolution of shear bands during single-pass and multi-pass rolling process of the zr_(55)Cu_(30)Al_(10)Ni_(5)amorphous alloy *** is found that the evolution process of shear bands in the rolling process of amorphous alloy shows heritability,which is mainly reflected in two aspects:one is that the shear band formation pattern in the single-pass rolling process is more inclined to inherit the previous shear band formation pattern;the other is that the shear deformation is more likely to occur in the pre-existing shear bands in the multi-pass rolling *** rule can be used to guide the controlled genera-tion of shear bands in amorphous ***,we emphasized the importance of pre-existing shear band orientations and systematically investigated the mechanical behavior of the amorphous alloys with pre-existing shear bands by in-situ SEM *** is found that the mechanical properties of the as-rolled amorphous alloys are determined by the competition between the work-softening of the pre-existing shear band itself and the work-hardening caused by the blocking effect of the pre-existing shear bands on the shear *** on this,we enhance the tensile fracture strength and the tensile ductility of the amorphous alloy by adjusting the orientation of the pre-existing shear bands parallel to the tensile stress axis so that the pre-existing shear bands prevent the linear propagation and destruction of the new shear bands.

The control techniques for indirect heating digestion in Bayer process of alumina production were researched and developed. They include controlling chemical composition of slurry to be digested and controlling digestion status and energy consumption. Very good performances and technical and technical and economical figures for digestion process have been obtained by carefully applying these comprehensive control techniques in Pingguo alumina refinery.

NUMERICAL STUDy ON CREEP DAMAGE OF COMPOSITES AT HIGH TEMPERATURE

A unit cell model is applied to study the creep damage behavior after fiber fractures in the fiber-reinforced composites at high temperature. The user subroutine CREEP has been programmed for ABAQUS. The fiber breakage results in a new crack. The results show that the stress concentration factor resulted from the fiber breakage increases with the creep time. The creep damage takes place near the crack, and then grows in the matrix along a certain angle, up to the total failure. The influences of the ratio of modulus of the fiber to the matrix (Ef/Em) on the creep deformation, damage and stress distributions have been studied. With the increasing Ef/Em, the damage in the matrix increases. Analysis on the different ductility of matrix shows that the creep damage of low ductile matrix composites is higher than high ductile matrix composites.

PREPARATION AND ANALySIS OF Ni-P-zn ELECTROLESS DEPOSITION FROM ALKALI BATH

Electroless Ni-P-zn alloys deposited from alkali bath were investigated in this paper. The deposition bath contained nickel sulfate, zinc chloride and hypophosp hate. The process parameters, such as temperature, pH and zinc salt concentratio n were presented and discussed. The microstructure of the coatings was studied b y XRD and SEM. The cathode glowing discharge characters of Ni-P-zn depositions w ere studied with luminous Neon lamps. Electrodes deposited by electroless Ni-P a lloys were apt to sputter during luminous working hours. Electroless Ni-P-zn dep ositions improved the discharge characters of the electrodes. With the concentra tion of zinc in the deposition rising to 4wt%, electrode sputter was largely res trained. The thickness of the deposition also influenced the discharge character s of the electrode. To avoid electrode sputter, the concentration of zinc has to rise with the thickness of the depositions.

Effect of Organosilicon Coating Containing Light Stabilizer on UV Aging Resistance of Bitumen

Effects of organosilicon coating with light stabilizer UV326,UV531 and 770 on ultraviolet (UV) aging resistance of bitumen were investigated by testing the viscosity,softening point and the changes of chemical component before and after UV aging. The results show that UV aging resistance of bitumen is improved due to the good weatherability of organosilicon. And the UV aging resistance of bitumen is further enhanced by adding light stabilizer into organosilicon coating due to the good UV absorption of light stabilizers. Bitumen coated with organosilicon coating containing UV326 exhibits better UV aging resistance in comparison with bitumen coated with organosilicon containing UV531 or 770.
