Enhancing strength and ductility of AlSi10Mg fabricated by selective laser melting by TiB_(2)nanoparticles

In the metallic components fabricated by the emerging selective laser melting(SLM)technology,most strategies used for strengthening the materials sacrifice the ductility,leading to the so-called strengthductility trade-off.In the present study,we report that the strength and ductility of materials can be enhanced simultaneously by introducing nanoparticles,which can break the trade-off of the metallic materials.In the case of in-situ nano-TiB_(2)decorated AlSi10Mg composites,the introduced nanoparticles lead to columnar-to-equiaxed transition,grain refinement and texture elimination.With increasing content of nanoparticles,the strength increases continually.Significantly,the ductility first increases and then decreases.Our results show that the ductility is controlled by the competition between the crack-induced catastrophic fracture and ductile fracture associated with dislocation activities.The first increase of ductility is mainly attributed to the suppression of crack-induced catastrophic fracture when TiB_(2)nanoparticles present.With the further increase of TiB_(2)nanoparticles,the subsequent decrease of ductility is mainly controlled by dislocation activities.Thus,the materials will exhibit the optimum strength and ductility combination in a certain range of TiB_(2)nanoparticles.This study clarifies the physical mechanism controlling ductility for nano-TiB_(2)decorated Al Si10Mg composites,which provides the insights for the design of structural materials.

Construction of 2D/2D Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)MXene/CdS heterojunction with photothermal effect for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production

The insensitivity of semiconductors to visible and infrared light is a key constraint on the utilization of light energy in photocatalytic reactions.Constructing photocatalysts with full-spectrum absorption through surface engineering is an effective approach to fully harnessing light energy in semiconductor materials.Herein,a novel stable Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)MXene/CdS heterojunction catalyst is obtained by in-situ epitaxial growth of two-dimensional(2D)CdS nanosheets on 2D MXene interface via a solvothermal method.The exceptional light absorption properties of MXene confer outstanding full-spectrum driven photocat-alytic hydrogen evolution capability upon the heterogeneous catalyst.The unique 2D/2D structure effectively mitigated the recombination of photogenerated carriers,enhancing the photocatalytic performance of the catalyst.Moreover,the composite catalyst exhibits a significantly higher surface temperature of 80.4℃under visible light irradiation at an intensity of 0.1 W/cm^(2),which is 1.84 times higher than that of CdS.Under irradiation of visible and near infrared light,the composite catalyst with photothermal ef-fect demonstrates a remarkable hydrogen evolution rate of 65.4 mmol g^(-1)h^(-1),which is 7.2 times higher than that of CdS catalyst.This study introduces a novel approach for constructing full-spectrum absorption catalysts and expands the application of the photothermal effect in photocatalytic hydrogen evolution research.

Rational design of AgGaS/znS/znS quantum dots with a near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield via double shelling scheme

In this study,a two-step method was used to synthesize highly luminescent AgGaS/znS/znS quantum dots(QDs).In the first step,an inner znS shell was formed via a one-pot method,which resulted in a smaller lattice mismatch between the AgGaS core and the outer znS shell,thereby facilitating the formation of a thick outer shell.After the two-step shelling process,the synthesized AgGaS/znS/znS QDs showed an excellent photoluminescence quantum yield(PLQy)of 96.4%with a peak wavelength of 508 nm,repre-senting the highest PLQy reported thus far for AgGaS QDs.Furthermore,the effect of halogen ions in zn precursors on the shelling process was investigated.It was proposed that the capacity of halogen ions to coordinate with the QDs influenced the balance between zn cation diffusion and znS shelling reaction.Specifically,the znS shelling reaction was dominant when znCl_(2)was employed,while zn cation diffusion was the dominant process under the I^(−)-rich environment.This work provides insights into the interfacial restructuring during the znS shelling and offers a clear map for the tailored synthesis of core/shell QDs.

Distinct Electrical and Mechanical Responses of a Cu-10Fe Composite Prepared by Hot-Pressed Sintering and Post Treatment

A Cu-10wt%Fe composite was prepared through hot-pressed sintering,and the material was subsequently solution treated.The hot-pressed sintered and solution treated materials were rolled and aged.The precipitation behavior and performance changes were systematically studied by using scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy.In contrast to the hot-pressed sintered specimen,the solution treatment significantly affects the thermal stability and properties of the Cu-10wt%Fe composite.The Cu-10wt%Fe composite was prepared after solid solution,cold rolling and aging at 773 K for 1 h,and it obtained excellent tensile strength of 494 MPa,uniform elongation of 16.3%,electrical conductivity of 51.1%IACS and softening temperature of 838 K.Mechanisms for the distinct difference in thermal stability and properties between hot-pressed sintered and solution treated specimens were analyzed.These findings provide a theoretical basis for designing high-performance Cu-based in-situ composites by post treatment.

Four Late-type Galaxies with Double Radio Lobes and Properties of Such Galaxies

The triggering mechanism for radio lobes from late-type galaxies is not fully understood.More samples are desired for a thorough investigation and statistics.By utilizing the optical data from the newly released Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument imaging surveys and the radio sources from the NRAO VLA Sky Survey and the Faint Images of the Radio Sky at Twenty-centimeter,we identify four Late-type Galaxies with double Radio Lobes(La GRLs):J0217-3645,J0947+6220,J1412+3723 and J1736+5108.Including previously known La GRLs,we confirm the correlation between radio power P_(1.4GHz)and stellar mass M_(*)of host galaxies.Most(25/35)La GRLs belong to the blue cloud galaxies,while the newly identified cases in this work are located within the region of the red sequence.We find a clear correlation between the differential radio power,i.e.,the offset from the P_(1.4GHz)-M_(*)relation,and the galaxy color,indicating that bluer galaxies at a fixed M_(*)tend to host more powerful radio lobes.Furthermore,the majority(31/36)of La GRLs are either located in a galaxy group or displaying a disturbed morphology.We suggest that all of the galaxy mass,color and surrounding environment could play important roles in triggering radio lobes in late-type galaxies.

Progress in the research on organic piezoelectric catalysts for dye decomposition

Organic contaminants have posed a direct and substantial risk to human wellness and the environment.In recent years,piezo-electric catalysis has evolved as a novel and effective method for decomposing these contaminants.Although piezoelectric materials offer a wide range of options,most related studies thus far have focused on inorganic materials and have paid little attention to organic materi-als.Organic materials have advantages,such as being lightweight,inexpensive,and easy to process,over inorganic materials.Therefore,this paper provides a comprehensive review of the progress made in the research on piezoelectric catalysis using organic materials,high-lighting their catalytic efficiency in addressing various pollutants.In addition,the applications of organic materials in piezoelectric cata-lysis for water decomposition to produce hydrogen,disinfect bacteria,treat tumors,and reduce carbon dioxide are presented.Finally,fu-ture developmental trends regarding the piezoelectric catalytic potential of organic materials are explored.

Microstructure evolution and shape memory behaviors of Ni_(47)Ti_(44)Nb_(9)alloy subjected to multistep thermomechanical loading with different prestrain levels

Ni_(47)Ti_(44)Nb_(9)shape memory alloy(SMA)is a promising material in the aerospace field due to its wide transformation hysteresis.The application of shape memory effect depends on multistep thermomechan-ical loading,viz.,low-temperature deformation and subsequent heating to recovery.Low-temperature deformation prestrain plays a pivotal role in shape memory properties tailoring of SMA components.However,microstructure evolution and deformation mechanisms of Ni_(47)Ti_(44)Nb_(9)SMA subjected to vari-ous prestrain levels are still unclear.To this end,microstructure evolution and shape memory behaviors of Ni_(47)Ti_(44)Nb_(9)alloy subjected to multistep thermomechanical loading with prestrain levels of 8%-16%at-28℃(M_(s)+30℃)were investigated.The results demonstrate that the stress-strain curve of the specimen exhibits four distinct stages at a maximal prestrain of 16%.Whereas stageⅡand stageⅢend at prestrains of∼8%and∼12%,respectively.In stageⅡ,the stress-induced martensitic transformation is accompanied by the dislocation slip of the NiTi matrix andβ-Nb inclusions.In stageⅢ,in addition to the higher density of dislocations and further growth of stress-induced martensite variants(SIMVs),(001)compound twins are introduced as a result of the(001)deformation twinning in stress-induced martensite.More{20-1}martensite twins are gradually introduced in stageⅣ.Correspondingly,after subsequent unloading and heating,a higher density of{114}austenite twins form in the specimen with a larger prestrain of 16%.With increasing prestrain from 8%to 16%,the recoverable strainε_(re)^(T)upon heating increases first and then decreases.Theε_(re)^(T)obtains a maximum of 7.03%at 10%prestrain and de-creases to 6.17%at 16%prestrain.The increase ofε_(re)^(T)can be attributed to the formation of new SIMVs,the further growth of existing SIMVs,and the recoverable(001)compound twins.While the decrease ofε_(re)^(T)is mainly associated with the irrecoverable strain by{20−1}martensite twins.The effect ofβ-Nb inclusions on the evolution of SIMVs i

Selection criteria of MPOB-Angola germplasm collection for yield improvement of the oil palm

Oil palm germplasm collected from Angola,Africa in 1991 were subjected to genetic variability potential studies.The collection was planted in the form of open-pollinated families as trials at the Malaysian Palm Oil Board(MPOB)Kluang Research Station,Johor,Malaysia,in 1994.Dura palms from 52 families and tenera palms from 44 families of MPOB-Angola were evaluated for their bunch yield and bunch quality components.The objectives of this study were to determine the genetic variability among the families and performance of MPOB-Angola germplasm for yield improvement.The analysis of variance(ANOVA)revealed highly significant differences between the dura and tenera families for most of the traits,suggesting the presence of high genetic variability,which is essential for breeding programmes.Among the duras,family AGO 02.02 displayed the best yield performance,with a high fresh fruit bunch,oil yield and total economic product at 240.40,29.46 and 37.93 kg palm^(-1)year^(-1),respectively.As for the teneras,family AGO 03.04 recorded the highest FFB yield and oil yield at 249.25 and 45.22 kg palm^(-1)year^(-1),respectively.Besides that,several families with big fruit sizes or producing a mean fruit weight of 14-17 g were also identified.Both dura and tenera from AGO 01.01 recorded the highest oil to bunch(O/B)of 17.76%and 28.65%,respectively.These findings will facilitate the selection of palms from the MPOB-Angola germplasm for future breeding programmes.

Diffuse large B cell lymphoma(DLBCL)is one of the most prevalent lymphoid malignancies.The current standard of care can cure about two-thirds of DLBCL patients.1 Primary testicular diffuse large B-cell lymphoma(PT-DLBCL)is a rare but highly aggressive form of mature B-cell lymphoma that accounts for approximately 1%-9%of testicular malignancies.Different from nodal DLBCL,PT-DLBCL has a markedly worse prognosis because of inferior response to the current treatment regimens and significant extranodal tropism.2 Three main questions remained unresolved in the field of PT-DLBCL research.

Greatly enhanced corrosion/wear resistances of epoxy coating for Mg alloy through a synergistic effect between functionalized graphene and insulated blocking layer

The poor corrosion and wear resistances of Mg alloys seriously limit their potential applications in various industries.The conventional epoxy coating easily forms many intrinsic defects during the solidification process,which cannot provide sufficient protection.In the current study,we design a double-layer epoxy composite coating on Mg alloy with enhanced anti-corrosion/wear properties,via the spin-assisted assembly technique.The outer layer is functionalized graphene(FG)in waterborne epoxy resin(WEP)and the inner layer is Ce-based conversion(Ce)film.The FG sheets can be homogeneously dispersed within the epoxy matrix to fill the intrinsic defects and improve the barrier capability.The Ce film connects the outer layer with the substrate,showing the transition effect.The corrosion rate of Ce/WEP/FG composite coating is 2131 times lower than that of bare Mg alloy,and the wear rate is decreased by~90%.The improved corrosion resistance is attributed to the labyrinth effect(hindering the penetration of corrosive medium)and the obstruction of galvanic coupling behavior.The synergistic effect derived from the FG sheet and blocking layer exhibits great potential in realizing the improvement of multi-functional integration,which will open up a new avenue for the development of novel composite protection coatings of Mg alloys.
