Two intestinal microbiota-derived metabolites, deoxycholic acid and butyrate, synergize to enhance host defense peptide synthesis and alleviate necrotic enteritis

Background Necrotic enteritis(NE)is a major enteric disease in poultry,yet effective mitigation strategies remain *** acid(DCA)and butyrate,two major metabolites derived from the intestinal microbiota,have independently been shown to induce host defense peptide(HDP)***,the potential synergy between these two compounds remains *** To investigate the possible synergistic effect between DCA and butyrate in regulating HDP synthesis and barrier function,we treated chicken HD11 macrophage cells and jejunal explants with DCA and sodium butyrate(NaB),either individually or in combination,for 24 ***,we performed RNA isolation and reverse transcrip-tion-quantitative PCR to analyze HDP genes as well as the major genes associated with barrier *** further determine the synergy between DCA and NaB in enhancing NE resistance,we conducted two independent trials with Cobb broiler *** each trial,the diet was supplemented with DCA or NaB on the day-of-hatch,followed by NE induction through sequential challenges with Eimeria maxima and Clostridium perfringens on d 10 and 14,*** recorded animal mortality after infection and assessed intestinal lesions on d *** impact of DCA and NaB on the microbiota in the ileum and cecum was evaluated through bacterial 16S rRNA gene *** We found that the combination of DCA and NaB synergistically induced multiple HDP genes in both chicken HD11 cells and jejunal ***,the gene for claudin-1,a major tight junction protein,also exhibited synergistic induction in response to DCA and ***,dietary supplementation with a combination of 0.75 g/kg DCA and 1 g/kg NaB led to a significant improvement in animal survival and a reduction in intestinal lesions compared to either compound alone in a chicken model of ***,the cecal microbiota of NE-infected chickens showed a marked decrease in SCFA-producing bacteria such as Bacteroides,F

Surface engineering with ionic polymers on membranes for boron removal

Removal of boric acid from seawater and wastewater using reverse osmosis membrane technologies is imperative and yet remains inadequately addressed by current commercial *** research efforts performed post-modification of reverse osmosis membranes to enhance boron rejection,which is usually accompanied by substantial sacrifice in water *** study delves into the surface engineering of low-pressure reverse osmosis membranes,aiming to elevate boron removal efficiency while maintaining optimal salt rejection and water *** were modified by the self-polymerization and co-deposition of dopamine and polystyrene sulfonate at varying ratios and *** surfaces became smoother and more hydrophilic after *** optimum membrane exhibited a water permeability of 9.2±0.1 L·m^(-2)·h^(-1)·bar^(-1),NaCl rejection of 95.8%±0.3%,and boron rejection of 49.7%±0.1% and 99.6%±0.3% at neutral and alkaline pH,*** water permeability is reduced by less than 15%,while the boron rejection is 3.7 times higher compared to the blank *** research provides a promising avenue for enhancing boron removal in reverse osmosis membranes and addressing water quality concerns in the desalination process.

The valence states and coordination structures of doped heterometal atoms in two-dimensional(2D)nanomaterials lack predictable regulation ***,a robust method is proposed to form unsaturated heteroatom clusters via the metal-vacancy restraint mechanism,which can precisely regulate the bonding and valence state of heterometal atoms doped in 2D molybdenum *** unsaturated valence state of heterometal Pt and Ru cluster atoms form a spatial coordination structure with Pt–S and Ru–O–S as catalytically active *** them,the strong binding energy of negatively charged suspended S and O sites for H+,as well as the weak adsorption of positively charged unsaturated heterometal atoms for H*,reduces the energy barrier of the hydrogen evolution reaction proved by theoretical ***,the electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution performance is markedly improved by the ensemble effect of unsaturated heterometal atoms and highlighted with an overpotential of 84 mV and Tafel slope of 68.5 mV dec^(−1).In brief,this metal vacancy-induced valence state regulation of heterometal can manipulate the coordination structure and catalytic activity of heterometal atoms doped in the 2D atomic lattice but not limited to 2D nanomaterials.

Experimental study and numerical simulation of the impact of under-sleeper pads on the dynamic and static mechanical behavior of heavy-haul railway ballast track

Laying the under-sleeper pad(USP)is one of the effective measures commonly used to delay ballast degradation and reduce maintenance *** explore the impact of application of the USP on the dynamic and static mechanical behavior of the ballast track in the heavy-haul railway system,numerical simulation models of the ballast bed with USP and without USP are presented in this paper by using the discrete element method(DEm)-multi-flexible body dynamic(mFBD)coupling analysis *** ballast bed support stiffness test and dynamic displacement tests were carried out on the actual operation of a heavy-haul railway line to verify the validity of the *** results show that using the USP results in a 43.01%reduction in the ballast bed support stiffness and achieves a more uniform distribution of track loads on the *** effectively reduces the load borne by the sleeper directly under the wheel load,with a 7.89%reduction in the pressure on the ***,the laying of the USP changes the lateral resistance sharing ratio of the ballast bed,significantly reducing the stress level of the ballast bed under train loads,with an average stress reduction of 42.19 *** also reduces the plastic displacement of ballast particles and lowers the peak value of rotational angular velocity by about 50%to 70%,which is conducive to slowing down ballast bed settlement deformation and reducing maintenance *** summary,laying the USP has a potential value in enhancing the stability and extending the lifespan of the ballast bed in heavy-haul railway systems.

Geometric Error Identification of Gantry-Type CNC machine Tool Based on multi-Station Synchronization Laser Tracers

Laser tracers are a three-dimensional coordinate measurement system that are widely used in industrial *** propose a geometric error identification method based on multi-station synchronization laser tracers to enable the rapid and high-precision measurement of geometric errors for gantry-type computer numerical control(CNC)machine *** method also improves on the existing measurement efficiency issues in the single-base station measurement method and multi-base station time-sharing measurement *** consider a three-axis gantry-type CNC machine tool,and the geometric error mathematical model is derived and established based on the combination of screw theory and a topological analysis of the machine kinematic *** four-station laser tracers position and measurement points are realized based on the multi-point positioning principle.A self-calibration algorithm is proposed for the coordinate calibration process of a laser tracer using the Levenberg-marquardt nonlinear least squares method,and the geometric error is solved using Taylor’s first-order linearization *** experimental results show that the geometric error calculated based on this modeling method is comparable to the results from the Etalon laser *** a volume of 800 mm×1000 mm×350 mm,the maximum differences of the linear,angular,and spatial position errors were 2.0μm,2.7μrad,and 12.0μm,respectively,which verifies the accuracy of the proposed *** research proposes a modeling method for the precise measurement of errors in machine tools,and the applied nature of this study also makes it relevant both to researchers and those in the industrial sector.

Dual-ion carrier storage through mg^(2+) addition for high-energy and long-life zinc-ion hybrid capacitor

Cation additives can efficiently enhance the total electrochemical capabilities of zinc-ion hybrid capacitors (zHCs).However their energy storage mechanisms in zinc-based systems are still under ***,we modulate the electrolyte and achieve dual-ion storage by adding magnesium *** we assemble several zn//activated carbon devices with different electrolyte concentrations and investigate their electrochemical reaction dynamic *** zinc-ion capacitor with mg^(2+)mixed solution delivers 82 mAh·g^(-1)capacity at 1 A·g^(-1) and maintains 91%of the original capacitance after 10000 *** is superior to the other assembled zinc-ion devices in single-component *** finding demonstrates that the double-ion storage mechanism enables the superior rate performance and long cycle lifetime of zHCs.

Understanding the mechanism of environmental, social, and governance impact on enterprise performance in the context of sustainable development

In transitional economies characterized by digital finance and uncertainty, the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) impact on enterprise performance has become a core issue in the sustainable development of enterprises. The existing literature does not pay attention to the simultaneous existence of digital finance and economic policy uncertainty in transition countries such as China. This paper introduces ESG as intangible capital into the Cobb–Douglas production function, considers the impact of digital finance and economic policy uncertainty, establishes a theoretical analysis framework, and empirically tests the impact of ESG on enterprise performance using panel data of 1688 listed companies in China from 2011 to 2020. The results reveal that ESG promotes enterprise performance; digital finance strengthens the positive impact of ESG on enterprise performance, and increased economic policy uncertainty strengthens the positive moderating effect of digital finance. Heterogeneity analysis reveals that the impact of ESG on enterprise performance and the moderating effect of digital finance are significant in both the eastern region and the central and western regions, but the former performs better when economic policy uncertainty increases. The research conclusion provides a policy reference for selecting appropriate digital finance policies to promote the sustainable development of enterprises with ESG as the core. © 2023 ERP Environment and John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

Toughening additive manufactured zr-based bulk metallic glass composites by martensite phase transformation

Additive manufacturing technology based on laser powder bed fusion(LPBF)offers a novel approach for fabricating bulk metallic glass(BmG)products without restriction in size and ***,the BmGs prepared by LPBF usually suffered from less plasticity and poorer fracture toughness as compared to their cast counterparts due to partial crystallization in heat-affected zones(HAzs).Since crystallization in HAzs is hard to avoid completely in LPBF BmGs,it is desirable to design a suitable alloy system,in which only ductile crystalline phase,instead of brittle intermetallics,is formed in *** unique structure could effectively increase the toughness/plasticity of the LPBF *** achieve this goal,a quaternary BmG system with a composition of zr_(47.5)Cu_(45.5)Al_(5)Co_(2)is adopted and subjected to *** is found that nearly a single phase of B_(2)-zrCu is precipitated in HAzs,while a fully amorphous phase is formed in molten pools(mPs).This B_(2)phase reinforced BmG composite exhibits excellent mechanical properties with enhanced plasticity and ***,it is easy to modulate the mechanical properties by altering the amount of the B_(2)phase via adjusting the laser energy ***,the best combination of strength,plasticity,and notch toughness is obtained in the BmG composite containing 27.4%B_(2)phase and 72.6%amorphous phase,which exhibits yield strength(σ_(s))of 1423 mPa,plastic strain(ε_(p))of 4.65%,and notch toughness(K_(q))of 53.9 mPa m 1/***,a notable strain-hardening is also *** improvement of plasticity/toughness and appearance of strain-hardening behavior are mainly due to the martensite phase transformation from the B_(2)phase to the Cm phase during plastic deformation(i.e.,the phase transformation-induced plasticity effect).The current work provides a guide for making advanced BmGs and BmG composites by additive manufacturing.
