Under certain conditions, nonmetallic inclusions such as oxides, sulfides, nitrides and carbides are no longer harmful to steel service properties. With the new concept of oxide metallurgy, these properties can be improved by generating fine oxide inclusions which serve as heterogeneous nuclei for sulfide and fine ferrite. A novel continuous casting (CC) process is expected to be created with the utilization of oxide metallurgy. This is also useful for the forthcoming technologies of direct rolling and near-net-shape casting. The main idea of oxide metallurgy consists of an alternative oxidation technology. It is based on steels treated by complex metals such as Ti, zr, Ti-zr alloys and rare earth metals. The selected deoxidants should follow the required conditions which are concluded in this paper. A 6 mm-thick SiCp/2009AI composite plate was successfully joined by friction stir welding （FSW） using an ultrahard material tool to investigate the evolution of the microstructure and the strength in the nugget zone （Nz）. While some SiC particles were broken up during FSW, most of them rotated in the matrix. Large compound particles on the interfaces were broken off during FSW, whereas the amorphous layer and small compound particles remained on the interfaces. The dynamically recrystallized AI grains nucleated on the surface of fractured SiC particles during FSW, forming nano-sized grains around the SiC particles. The yield strength of the Nz decreased slightly due to the variation in the size, shape, and distribution of the SiC particles. The clean interfaces were beneficial to the load transfer between SiC particles and AI matrix and then increased the ultimate tensile strength of the Nz.

AIM:To evaluate the results and complications of secondary endoresection via pars plana vitrectomy for choroidal melanoma and review the previously reported endoresection studies on the treatment of choroidal ***:The medical records of 6 patients with choroidal melanoma who underwent secondary endoresection between March 2012 and March 2020 were retrospectively *** indications for secondary endoresection were progressive or recurrent tumor and severe exudative retinal detachment after previous treatment with plaque radiotherapy/Cyberknife radiosurgery/transpupillary thermotherapy(TTT).RESULTS:Before endoresection,2 eyes had Iodine-125 plaque radiotherapy and TTT,1 eye had Ruthenium-106 plaque radiotherapy and TTT,1 eye had Cyberknife radiosurgery and TTT,1 eye had Cyberknife radiosurgery,and 1 eye had TTT *** visual acuity ranged from 20/63 to 20/1600(Snellen) and from 0.5 to 1.9(mean:1.1) on the log MAR *** mean tumor base diameters were 9.5×8.7 mm and the mean tumor thickness was 5.4 *** secondary endoresection,transient vitreous hemorrhage developed in 2(33.3%) eyes and retinal detachment in 1(16.7%) *** examination revealed epithelioid cell melanoma in 4(66.7%) eyes and mixed cell melanoma in 1(16.7%).Melanoma cell type was not specified in 1(16.7%) *** a mean follow-up of 49.6 mo(range:16-90 mo),mean visual acuity did not improve and 1 eye was enucleated due to tumor *** visual acuity ranged from 20/63 to 20/1600(Snellen) and from 0.5 to 1.9(mean:1.2) on the log MAR *** patients with choroidal melanoma developed metastasis and eventually ***:Secondary endoresection seems to be an effective treatment option for globe salvage in choroidal melanoma not responsive to conventional treatment and displaying persistent exudative retinal *** was no visual acuity increase among the treated eyes but globe salvage was possible in most cases in this study.

The epitaxial Mno0.98Cr0.02Te films on single crystal Al2O3 （0001） substrates were prepared by pulsed laser deposition. The X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy results showed that the good continuous epitaxial film was obtained with substrate temperature of 500 ℃. When the substrate temperature reached 700 ℃, the film was island growth and the manganese oxides phase appeared. The temperature dependence of both the magnetization and electrical resistance showed a sharp rise at around 60 K due to the magnetoelastic coupling. The temperature dependence of the electrical resistance of Mno0.98Cr0.02Te provided evidence for a transition from the metallic to semiconducting state at 305 K due to the spin disorder scattering with a large contribution from the influence of magnon drag.

The influence of different modification methods on the surface properties of indium-tin-oxide (ITO) electrodes were investigated by measurements of chemical composition,surface roughness,sheet resistance,contact angle and surface free *** results demonstrate that oxygen plasma treatment more effectively optimizes the surface properties of ITO electrodes compared with the other ***,the polymer light-emitting electrochemical cells (PLECs) with the differently treated ITO substrates as device electrodes were fabricated and *** is found that oxygen plasma treatment on the ITO electrode enhances injection current,luminance and efficiency,thereby improves the device characteristics of the PLECs.

Torsional guided waves have been widely utilized to inspect the surface corrosion in pipelines due to their simple displacement behaviors and the ability of longrange ***,the torsional mode T(0,1),which is the first order of torsional guided waves,plays the irreplaceable position and role,mainly because of its non-dispersion characteristic ***,one of the most pressing challenges faced in modern quality inspection is to detect the surface defects in pipelines with a high level of *** into account this situation,a quantitative reconstruction method using the torsional guided wave T(0,1)is proposed in this *** methodology for defect reconstruction consists of three ***,the reflection coefficients of the guided wave T(0,1)scattered by different sizes of axisymmetric defects are calculated using the developed hybrid finite element method(HFEM).Then,applying the boundary integral equation(BIE)and Born approximation,the Fourier transform of the surface defect profile can be analytically derived as the correlative product of reflection coefficients of the torsional guided wave T(0,1)and the fundamental solution of the intact pipeline in the frequency ***,reconstruction of defects is precisely performed by the inverse Fourier transform of the product in the frequency *** experiments show that the proposed approach is suitable for the detection of surface defects with arbitrary ***,the effects of the depth and width of surface defects on the accuracy of defect reconstruction are *** is noted that the reconstructive error is less than 10%,providing that the defect depth is no more than one half of the pipe thickness.
