To improve the nutritional value and the palatability of air-dried rice straw, culture broth of the lactic acid bacteria community SFC-2 was used to examine the effects of two different treatments, fermentation and adsorption. Air-dried and chopped rice straw was treated with either fermentation for 30 d after adding 1.5 L nutrient solution（50 m L inocula L–1, 1.2×1012 CFU m L–1 inocula） kg–1 straw dry matter, or spraying a large amount of culture broth（1.5 L kg–1 straw dry matter, 1.5×1011 CFU m L–1 culture broth） on the straw and allowing it to adsorb for 30 min. The feed quality and aerobic stability of the resulting forage were examined. Both treatments improved the feed quality of rice straw, and adsorption was better than fermentation for preserving nutrients and improving digestibility, as evidenced by higher dry matter（dM） and crude protein（CP） concentrations, lower neutral detergent fiber（NdF）, acid detergent fiber（AdF） and NH3-N concentrations, as well as higher lactic acid production and in vitro digestibility of dM（IVdMd）. The aerobic stability of the adsorbed straw and the fermented straw was 392 and 480 h, respectively. After being exposed to air, chemical components and microbial community of the fermented straw were more stable than the adsorbed straw.

This paper reports improved performance of discharge plasma in raw engine exhaust treatment. For the purpose of investigation, both filtered and raw diesel engine exhaust were separately treated by the discharge plasma. In raw exhaust environment, the discharge plasma exhibits a superior performance with regard to NOx removal, energy consmnption and formation of by-products. In this study, experiments were conducted at conditions of different temperatures and loads.

Cognitive decline is a feature of normal and pathological aging. As the proportion of the global aged population continues to grow, it is imperative to understand the molecular and cellular substrates of cognitive aging for therapeutic discovery. This review focuses on the critical role of neural extracellular matrix in the regulation of neuroplasticity underlying learning and memory in another under-investigated "critical period": the aging process. The fascinating ideas of neural extracellular matrix forming a synaptic cradle in the tetrapartite synapse and possibly serving as a substrate for storage of very long-term memories will be introduced. We emphasize the distinct functional roles of diffusive neural extracellular matrix and perineuronal nets and the advantage of the coexistence of two structures for the adaptation to the ever-changing external and internal environments. Our study of striatal neural extracellular matrix supports the idea that chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan-associated extracellular matrix is restrictive on synaptic neuroplasticity, which plays important functional and pathogenic roles in early postnatal synaptic consolidation and aging-related cognitive decline. Therefore, the chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan-associated neural extracellular matrix can be targeted for normal and pathological aging. Future studies should focus on the cell-type specificity of neural extracellular matrix to identify the endogenous, druggable targets to restore juvenile neuroplasticity and confer a therapeutic benefit to neural circuits affected by aging.

Exotic quantum spin liquid (QSL) states and fractionalized quasiparticles in frustrated magnets are of much current interest in theoretical and experimental studies of quantum magnetism. The kagome-lattice Heisenberg antiferromagnet (KAFM) provides a possible realization of just such novel topological states of matter. The kagome lattice shown in Fig. 1 is one of eleven Archimedean lattices in two spatial dimensions, where the word kagome itself means uweave pattera" in Japanese.

If the uncertainty principle applies to the Verlinde entropic idea, it leads to a new term in the Newton＇s second law of mechanics in the Planck＇s scale. This curious velocity dependent term inspires a frictional feature of the gravity. In this short letter we address that this new term modifies the effective mass and the Newtonian constant as the time dependent quantities. Thus we must have a running on the value of the effective mass on the particle mass m near the holographic screen and the G. This result has a nigh relation with the dirac hypothesis about the large numbers hypothesis （L.N.H.）. We propose that the corrected entropie terms via Verlinde idea can be brought as a holographic evidence for the authenticity of the dirac idea.

The temperature control in electronic packaging is the key in numerous applications,to avoid overheating and hardware *** to high capability of heat transfer,good temperature uniformity,and no power consumption,heat pipes can be widely used for heat dissipation of electronic *** paper reports an experimental thermal analysis of different capillary structures for heat *** wicks considered are metal screens,axial microgrooves,and sintered metal *** heat pipes are made of copper,a 200 mm length tube and a 9.45 mm external *** fluid used was distilled *** devices are investigated in three positions:0,90,and 270°to the horizontal under powers of 5 up to 45 *** results show that in horizontal(0°)and with the evaporator under the condenser(270°),the heat pipes showed similar ***,in the reverse condition(the position against the gravity with the evaporator above the condenser,90°),the heat pipe with sintered wick presented the best thermal performance,as it has the lowest thermal resistance and supported a higher *** that,the sintered powder capillary structure demonstrates the most homogeneous thermal behavior for every position,making the most suitable for applications susceptible to diverse inclinations.

A cluster dynamics model based on rate theory has been developed to describe the accumulation and diffusion processes of helium in tungsten under helium implantation alone or synergistic irradiationwith neutron,by involving different types of objects,adopting up-to-date parameters and complex reaction processes as well as considering the diffusion process along with *** calculated results under different conditions are in good agreement with experiments much *** model describes the behavior of helium in tungsten within 2d space of defect type/size and depth on different ions incident conditions(energies and fluences)and material conditions(system temperature and existent sinks),by including the synergistic effect of helium-neutron irradiations and the influence of inherent sinks(dislocation lines and grain boundaries).The model,coded as IRadMat,would be universally applicable to the evolution of defects for ions/neutron irradiated on plasma-facing materials.

Intra-articular transplantation of porcine adipose-derived stem cells for the treatment of canine osteoarthritis: A pilot study

AIM: To test whether intra-articular injection of porcine adipose-derived stem cells(AdSCs) can treat canine osteoarthritis(OA).METHOdS: To enroll in this study dogs must have stifle joint OA that had lasted ≥ 3 mo and been treated with OA medication without significant improvement. Three dogs fulfilled these criteria and were thus subjects for AdSCs treatment. AdSCs were isolated from abdominal adipose tissue of a 2-mo-old female Yorkshire pig. Their stem cell marker expression was examined by immunofluorescence staining. For treatment, 5 million AdSCs were injected into the diseased joint of each dog. In the next 48 h, the patient was observed for signs of inflammatory and allergic reactions. Thepatient was then discharged to the owner and, at 2, 6, and 12 wk, followed up with orthopedic assessment, owner questionnaire, X-ray imaging, and force-plate gait ***: Porcine AdSCs expressed mesenchymal stem cell markers Cd90 and Cd105. Injection of porcine AdSCs into canine stifle joints did not cause any inflammatory or allergic reactions. Orthopedic evaluation found improvements in two dogs, particularly at the longest time point. Owners' evaluation found increased capacity and decreased pain in all three dogs' activities such as walking and running. Radiographic evaluation did not find statistically significant differences before and after treatment. Force-plate analysis found significant improvements in all three dogs after ***: Xenotransplantation of AdSCs for the treatment of OA is feasible. Further studies are needed to validate this novel treatment modality, which can then be implemented for the routine treatment of OA in veterinary medicine.

Magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effects in(Ho_(1-x)Y_x)_5Pd_2 compounds

The crystal structure, magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of(Ho_(1-x) Y_(0.5))_5 Pd_2 compounds are investigated. All the compounds crystallize in a cubic dy_5 Pd_2-type structure with the space group Fd3 m and undergo a second order transition from spin glass(SG) state to paramagnetic(PM) state. The spin glass transition temperatures T_g decrease from 26 K for x = 0 to 13 K for x = 0.5. In the PM region, the reciprocal susceptibilities for all the compounds obey the Curie–Weiss law. The paramagnetic Curie temperatures(θp) for Ho_5 Pd_2,(Ho_(0.75) Y_(0.25)_5 Pd_2, and(Ho_(0.5) Y_(0.5))_5 Pd_2 are determined to be 32 K, 30 K, and 22 K, respectively, and the corresponding effective magnetic moments(μeff) are10.8 μB/Ho, 10.3 μB/RE, and 7.5 μB/RE, respectively. Magnetocaloric effect(MCE) is anticipated according to the Maxwell relation, based on the isothermal magnetization curves. For a magnetic field change of 0–5 T, the maximum values of the isothermal magnetic entropy change-?SMof the(Ho_(1-x)Y_x)_5 Pd_2(x = 0, 0.25, and 0.5) compounds are determined to be 11.5 J·kg^(-1)·K^(-1), 11.1 J·kg^(-1)·K^(-1), and 8.9 K J·kg^(-1)·K^(-1), with corresponding refrigerant capacity values of 382.3 J·kg^(-1), 336.2 J·kg^(-1), and 242.5 J·kg^(-1), respectively.
