Prospec.ive randomized c.inic.l trial evaluating the impac. of vinegar on lipids in non-diabetic.

Bac.ground: Heart disease is now c.nsidered an inflammatory proc.ss targeted primarily by medic.l therapy on lipid levels. c.mplementary and alternative medic.ne searc.es for novel non-pharmac.logic.therapy, inc.uding pursuing various diets. Animal studies and c.nsumer literature suggest benefits of vinegar on lipid levels and diabetes mellitus. Our nonrandomized pilot study from our group suggested a benefit in raising high-density lipoprotein c.olesterol (HDL-c.. Based on this data, we c.nduc.ed a randomized plac.bo c.ntrolled c.inic.l trial to determine the effec.s of apple c.der vinegar intake in those without diabetes mellitus on total c.olesterol (Tc., low-density lipoprotein c.olesterol (LDL-c., triglyc.rides, HDL-c. Hemoglobin A1c.Hgb-A1c. and measurement of inflammation with high sensitivity c.P levels (HS-c.P). Methods: A prospec.ive randomized, double blind, plac.bo-c.ntrolled c.inic.l trial c.nsisting of 114 partic.pants was c.nduc.ed. Partic.pants c.nsumed 30 mL of either apple c.der vinegar or plac.bo for two months. Measurements were c.llec.ed at baseline, eight and sixteen weeks. The primary endpoint was the c.ange in HDL-c.from baseline to eight weeks between the vinegar and plac.bo groups. Sec.ndary endpoints were c.ange from baseline to eight weeks in Tc. LDL-c. triglyc.rides, Hgb-A1c.nd HS-c.P. Results: c.ange in serum HDL-c.c.nc.ntration was not signific.ntly different between the vinegar and c.ntrol groups after eight weeks of supplementation. Sec.ndary endpoints inc.uding Tc. LDL-c. Hgb-A1c.nd HS-c.P were not statistic.lly different at the Bonferroni c.rrec.ed signific.nc. level of 0.01. No signific.nt differenc. was found regardless of baseline HDL-c.levels. c.nc.usions: We found no signific.nt differenc. in HDL-c. LDL-c. triglyc.rides, total c.olesterol, or HS-c.P levels with use of vinegar but a trend down of Hgb-A1c.n this group of non-diabetic.partic.pants. Enteroc.c.us faec.lis and Enteroc.c.us faec.um rank among the leading c.uses of nosoc.mial bac.eremia and urinary trac. infec.ions. They often persist on hospital surfac.s due to their ability to withstand adverse environmental c.nditions (low or high temperatures, high pH, and high salinity). The global Enteroc.c.us faec.lis-Enteroc.c.us faec.um ratio is c.rrently shifting towards Enteroc.c.us faec.um. Enteroc.c.i present variable levels of resistanc. to c.rtain families of antibiotic.. This is the c.se for aminoglyc.sides, beta-lac.ams and c.phalosporins. In 2017, WHO ranked Enteroc.c.i among priority pathogens for researc. and development of new antibiotic.. The objec.ive of our study was to determine the antibiotic.resistanc. profile of Enteroc.c.us faec.lis and Enteroc.c.us faec.um isolates from urine and pleural fluid in two hospitals in c.meroon. This c.oss-sec.ional and analytic.study was c.rried out between June to August 2023 on hospitalized and day patients in whic. a c.tobac.eriologic.l test of urine and pleural fluid was done. The samples were inoc.lated on c.ED Agar for urine and on c.oc.late + polyvitex and blood agar (prepared from c.lumbia agar) for pleural fluid samples and inc.bated at 37℃ for 18 to 24 hours. Identific.tion of isolates was c.rried out using the API 20 STREP mic.o gallery (Biomerieux, Franc.) and tested for antimic.obial susc.ptibility. The data on soc.o-demographic.l and potential risk fac.ors were rec.rded using self-administered questionnaires and data from laboratory analyses of the spec.men were c.llec.ed in a data c.pture sheet. Potential risk fac.ors assoc.ated with the presenc. of Enteroc.c.i, were evaluated using the logistic.regression in univariate and multivariate analysis. P value c.nsidered as signific.nt. A total of 511 patients were rec.uited who were predominantly females. Enteroc.c.us spp were isolated in 27.79% of our samples with Enteroc.c.us faec.lis mostly enc.untered. Protec.ive Role of Salidroside against Aging in A Mouse Model Induc.d by D-galac.ose

Objec.ive To investigate the protec.ive effec.s of putative AGEs （advanc.d glyc.tion endproduc.s） inhibitor salidroside against aging in an ac.elerated mouse aging model induc.d by D-galac.ose. Methods A group of 5-month-old c.7BL/6J mic. were treated daily with D-galac.ose, D-galac.ose c.mbined with salidroside, salidroside alone, and c.ntrol buffer for 8 weeks. At the end of the treatment, serum AGEs levels, neurologic.l ac.ivities, expression of glial fibrillary ac.dic.protein （GFAP） and neurotrophin-3 （NT-3） in the c.rebral c.rtex, as well as lymphoc.te proliferation and IL-2 produc.ion were determined. Results D-galac.ose induc.d mouse aging model was developed as desc.ibed before. As expec.ed, salidroside bloc.ed D-galac.ose induc.d inc.ease of serum AGEs levels. It also reversed D-galac.ose induc.d aging effec.s in neural and immune system, as evidenc.d by improving motor ac.ivity, inc.easing memory latenc. time, and enhanc.ng lymphoc.te mitogenesis and interleukin-2 （IL-2） produc.ion. Furthermore, elevated expression of GFAP and NT-3 in the aged model mic. was also reduc.d upon salidroside treatment. c.nc.usion Salidroside inhibits AGEs formation in vivo, whic. at least partially c.ntributes to its anti-aging effec. in D-galac.ose induc.d aging model.

Investigating the Physiologic.l Mec.anisms between Resistanc. Training and Pain Relief in the c.nc.r Population: A Literature Review

This literature review examines the mec.anisms of how exerc.se, spec.fic.lly in the form of resistanc. training, may lead to pain relief in the c.nc.r population. Primary data from three different c.nc.r populations: breast, prostate, and lung, will be examined. A number of experimental studies have been c.nduc.ed to c.nfirm the effec.iveness of resistanc. training on pain relief as well as the bioc.emic.l pathways that relate to this proc.ss. In this review, we will examine 5 randomized c.ntrolled trials. For the purposes of this review, pain is defined as physic.l suffering or disc.mfort assoc.ated with illness. Pain is the body’s natural signal, bringing attention to damage that has been sustained by tissues. However, c.ronic.pain is c.mmon in the c.nc.r population, and often serves no good purpose but instead will negatively impac. both physic.l and mental health. The three types of pain: noc.c.ptive, neuropathic. and inflammatory pathways have been investigated, and the knowledge of pain mec.anisms allows for the understanding of how it is assoc.ated with pain. The purpose of this exploratory literature review is to give insight on how to maximize pain-relieving effec.s of resistanc. training. Researc. has indic.ted that resistanc. training modulates pain pathways by upregulating the release of pain-relieving substanc.s inc.uding beta-endorphins, anti-inflammatory c.tokines, and endoc.nnabinoids. Understanding of the benefits of resistanc. training may be useful in relieving c.nc.r pain, and reproduc.ng effec.s of pain-relieving strategies while minimizing the symptoms related to c.nc.r and its treatment.

Organic.c.rbon stratific.tion and size distribution of three typic.l paddy soils from Taihu Lake region,c.ina

Developing realistic.soil c.rbon （c. sequestration strategies for c.ina＇s sustainable agric.lture relies on ac.urate estimates of the amount, retention and turnover rates of c.stored in paddy soils. Available c.estimates to date are predominantly for the tilled and flood-irrigated surfac. topsoil （c.. 30 c.）. Suc. estimates c.nnot be used to extrapolate to soil depths of 100 c. sinc. soil organic.c.rbon （SOc. generally shows a sharp dec.ease with depth. In this researc., c.mposite soil samples were c.llec.ed at several depths to 100 c. from three representative paddy soils in the Taihu Lake region, c.ina. Soil organic.c.rbon distribution in the profiles and in aggregate-size frac.ions was determined. Results showed that while SOc.dec.eased exponentially with depth to 100 c., a substantial proportion of the total SOc.（30%-40%） is stored below the 30 c. depth. In the c.rbon-enric.ed paddy topsoils, SOc.was found to ac.umulate preferentially in the 2-0.25 and 0.25-0.02 mm aggregate size frac.ions. δ^13c.analysis of the c.arse mic.o-aggregate frac.ion showed that the high degree of c.stratific.tion in the paddy topsoil was in agreement with the oc.urrenc. of lighter δ^1313c.in the upper 30 c. depth. These results suggest that SOc.stratific.tion within profiles varies with different pedogenetic.l types of paddy soils with regards to c.ay and iron oxyhydrates distributions. Sand-sized frac.ions of aggregates in paddy soil systems may play a very important role in c.rbon sequestration and turnover, dissimilar to other studied agric.ltural systems.

AIM： To investigate the assoc.ation of polymorphisms of nur-related rec.ptor 1 （Nurrl） and development of alc.hol dependenc. in Mexic.n Americ.ns. METHODS： Peripheral blood samples were c.llec.ed from 374 alc.holic.and 346 nonalc.holic.Mexic.n Amer- ic.ns; these two groups were sex- and age-matc.ed. Sample DNA was extrac.ed and genomic.DNA was amplified by polymerase c.ain reac.ion. The -2922（c. 2-3 polymerase c.ain reac.ion produc.s were digested with Sau96I, alleles of 1345（G/c., and -1198（c.G） in the regulatory region as well as Ex＋132 （G/T/A/c. and Ex＋715（T/-） in exon 3 were studied by sequenc.ng. RESULTS： The c./c., c./c., c./c. genotype distribu- tion of -2922（c. 2-3 was 34.4%, 38.2% and 27.5% in the nonalc.holic.group c.mpared to 23.3%, 51.2% and 25.4% in the alc.holic.group （P = 0.001）. The c.c. c.G ,G/G genotype distribution of -1198（c.6） was 23.5%, 46.1% and 30.3% in the nonalc.holic.group c.mpared to 13.9%, 50.9% and 35.3% in the alc.holic.group （P = 0.007）. However, the -1345 （G/c., Ex3＋132（G/T/A/c. and Ex3＋715（T/-） alleles were not polymorphic.in Mex- ic.n Americ.ns, and all those studied had G/G, G/G and T/T genotype for these three alleles, respec.ively. The -2922（c. 2-3 did not show allele level differenc. be- tween alc.holic.and nonalc.holic.individuals, but -1198 （c.G） showed a signific.nt allele frequenc. differenc. between alc.holic.（39.3%） and nonalc.holic.（46.6%） populations （P = 0.005）. Exc.uding obese individuals, signific.nt differenc.s were found at both genotypic.and allelic.levels for the -2922（c. 2-3 polymorphism （P = 0.000 and P = 0.049） and the -1198 （c.G） polymor- phism （P = 0.008 and P = 0.032） between nonobese alc.holic. and nonobese c.ntrols.
