Bimanual motor skill learning and robotic assistance for chronic hemiparetic stroke: a randomized controlled trial

Using robotic devices might improve recovery post-stroke, but the optimal way to apply robotic assistance has yet to be determined. The current study aimed to investigate whether training under the robotic active-assisted mode improves bimanual motor skill learning(bimSkL) more than training under the active mode in stroke patients. Twenty-six healthy individuals(HI) and 23 chronic hemiparetic stroke patients with a detectable lesion on mRI or CT scan, who demonstrated motor deficits in the upper limb, were randomly allocated to two parallel groups. The protocol included a two-day training on a new bimanual cooperative task, LIFT-THE-TRAY, under either the active or activeassisted modes(where assistance decreased in a pre-determined stepwise fashion) with the bimanual version of the REAplan? robotic device. The hypothesis was that the active-assisted mode would result in greater bimSkL than the active mode. The bimSkL was quantified by a speed-accuracy trade-off(SAT) before(T1) and immediately after(T2) training on days 1 and 2(T3 and T4). The change in SAT after 2 days of training(T4/T1) indicated that both HI and stroke patients learned and retained the bimanual cooperative task. After 2 days of training, the active-assisted mode did not improve bimSkL more than the active mode(T4/T1) in HI nor stroke patients. Whereas HI generalized the learned bimanual skill to different execution speeds in both the active and active-assisted subgroups, the stroke patients generalized the learned skill only in the active subgroup. Taken together, the active-assisted mode, applied in a pre-determined stepwise decreasing fashion, did not improve bimSkL more than the active mode in HI and stroke subjects. Stroke subjects might benefit more from robotic assistance when applied "as-needed." Cultivated hawthorn(Crataegus pinnatifida ***)is an important medicinal and edible plant with a long history of use for health protection in ***,we provide a de novo chromosomelevel genome sequence of the hawthorn cultivar“Qiu Jinxing.”We assembled an 823.41 mb genome encoding 40571 genes and further anchored the779.24 mb sequence into 17 pseudo-chromosomes,which account for 94.64%of the assembled *** analyses revealed that cultivated hawthorn diverged from other species within the maleae(apple tribe)at approximately 35.4 ***,genes involved in the flavonoid and triterpenoid biosynthetic pathways have been significantly amplified in the hawthorn *** addition,our results indicated that the maleae share a unique ancient tetraploidization event;however,no recent independent whole-genome duplication event was specifically detected in *** amplification of non-specific long terminal repeat retrotransposons contributed the most to the expansion of the hawthorn ***,we identified two paleo-sub-genomes in extant species of maleae and found that these two sub-genomes showed different rearrangement *** also reconstructed the ancestral chromosomes of Rosaceae and discussed two possible paleopolyploid origin patterns(autopolyploidization or allopolyploidization)of ***,our study provides an improved context for understanding the evolution of maleae species,and this new highquality reference genome provides a useful resource for the horticultural improvement of hawthorn.

Identification of a Cam Clay model through Shear-Box and Oedometer Tests. Application to Lateritical Soils from Senegal (West Africa)

The main objective of this research is to study the mechanical behaviour of tropical soils using elasto-plastic constitutive equations in the so-called limit and critical states. Indeed, researchers of the Cambridge University had noticed that during their various experiments, the rate of volumetric deformation ( ) of the sample tending to zero every time the rupture of the specimen is reached during a test performed on a clay specimen Roscoe et al., 1958. To better understand and clarify this mechanical behaviour, a description has been proposed in the (e, p, q) representation that means void ratio, volumetric stress (spherical pressure) and deviatoric stress. This frame of theoretical study and apprehension is called: the theory of the Critical State. One of the major problems met at the time of our present research is the non-availability of triaxial apparatus allowing us to achieve some tests on tropical soils (samples from Senegal in West Africa) and to describe the behaviour of these materials easily like the researchers of the university of Cambridge in the theory of the critical state. To by-pass this difficulty, we decided to consider two very classical and simple mechanical tests: shear-box and the oedometer test as well as the interrelationship of the results given by the tests and some theoretical calculations. This is a way to identify an elasto-plastic model (the modified Cam Clay model) without any triaxial experiment. Indeed it supposes the model to be suitable to describe the mechanical behaviour of the considered clays.

A New Two-Branch Amplification Architecture and its Application with Various modulated Signals

This paper proposes a new two-branch amplification architecture that combines baseband signal decomposition with RF front-end optimization. In the proposed architecture, the filtered modulated signals are separated into two components that are then amplified independently and combined to regenerate an amplified version of the original signal. A branch with an efficient amplifier transmits a low-varying envelope signal that contains the main part of the information. Another branch amplifies the residual portion of the signal. The baseband decomposition and parameters of the RF part are optimized to find the configuration that gives the best power efficiency and linearity. For m-ary quadrature amplitude modulation （m-QAm） signals, this technique is limited in terms of power efficiency. However, for filtered continuous phase modulation （CPm） signals, especially for minimum shift keying （mSK） and Gaussian mSK （GmSK） signals, high power efficiency can be achieved with no significant impact on the overall linearity. The results show that this technique gives better performance than the single-ended ctass-B amplifier.

Depressive Symptoms and Food Intake among Weight-Preoccupied Women: Do Eating Behaviors and Attitudes or BmI mediate This Association?

Associations between depressive symptoms, dysfunctional eating behaviors and attitudes, higher food intake and body mass index (BmI) have been previously observed. However, few studies have assessed these variables in the same study. The first objective is to compare, in a natural setting environment, the profile of women reporting lower or higher levels of depressive symptoms in terms of food intake, eating behaviors and attitudes, and BmI. The second objective is to test mediational models for which the link between depressive symptoms and food intake would be mediated by eating behaviors and attitudes or BmI. Weight-preoccupied women were recruited (n = 323), and their level of depressive symptoms was assessed using the Beck Depression Inventory. The median score was used to create two groups (lower ≤ 13;higher > 13). A web-based food-frequency questionnaire, the Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire, and the Intuitive Eating Scale were completed. BmI was calculated from reported body weight and height. Compared to women with a lower level of depressive symptoms, those with a higher level of depressive symptoms reported a higher energy intake (p = 0.02), and a higher consumption of savoury foods (p = 0.02). These women also had higher scores of disinhibition (p p = 0.0002), ate less intuitively (p p = 0.005). Association between depressive symptoms and energy intake was mediated by disinhibition, susceptibility to hunger and eating for physical rather than emotional reasons, while the role of BmI was less clear. Regarding another component of food intake, association between depressive symptoms and consumption of savoury foods was mediated by disinhibition and eating for physical rather than emotional reasons. In summary, it seems essential to be aware of the presence of depressive symptoms and to pay attention to eating behaviors and attitudes in interventions among weight-preoccupied women.

Britt belonging to red and green varieties harvested from eight areas in China and Japan were investigated for a new feasibility of water extract of *** *** compound contents were determined,identified and *** them,three cinnamic derivatives ranged from 0.09 to 10.10 mg/g dry basis(coumaroyl tartaric acid,0-0.76 mg/g,caffeic acid,0.07-0.84 mg/g,and rosmarinic acid,0-10.1 mg/g),flavonoids ranged from 3.43 to 18.53 mg/g(apigenin 7-O-caffeoylglucoside,0-1.16 mg/g;scutellarein 7-O-diglucuronide,0.10-1.84;luteolin 7-O-diglucuronide, 0.28-7.35;apigenin 7-O-diglucuronide,2.18-8.74;luteolin 7-0-glucuronide,0-0.51 scutellarein 7-O-glucuronide0.05-1.78),and anthocyanins(cis-shisonin,shisonin,malonylshisonin and cyanidin 3-O-(E)-caffeoylglucoside-5-O-malonylglucoside) which were detected in only red-green or red cultivars, range from 0.74 up to 1.78 mg/g.
