Enhancement of the thermoelectric performance of half-metallic full-Heusler Mn_(2)VAl alloys via antisite defect engineering and Si partial substitution

A half-metallic full-Heusler Mn_(2)VAl alloy is a potential p-type thermoelectric material that can directly generate electricity from waste heat via the Seebeck *** practical use,the Seebeck coefficient S of Mn_(2)VAl should be increased while maintaining a high electrical conductivity s from its half-metallic ***,we achieved this objective through antisite defect ***,it was predicted that the S was maximized by regulating partial density of states of majority-spin sp-electrons through the control of the fraction of antisite defect,f_(AD),between V and Al atoms in Mn_(2)***-mentally,a significant increase in S and a slight decrease in s were observed for an Mn_(2)VAl sample with an optimal fAD=33%,enhancing the thermoelectric power factor PF by 2.7 times from an Mn_(2)VAl sample with fAD=14%.Furthermore,we combined the antisite defect engineering with a partial substitution *** Mn_(2)V(Al_(0.96)Si_(0.04))sample with fAD=33%exhibited the highest PF=4.5×10^(-4)W·m^(-1)·K^(-2)at 767 K among the *** maximum dimensionless figure-of-merit zT of the Mn_(2)V(Al_(0.96)Si_(0.04))sample with f_(AD)=33%was measured to be 3.4×10^(-2)at 767 K,which is the highest among the p-type half-metallic full-Heusler alloys.

BACKGROUND High-grade pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia(PanIN)exhibits no mass and is not detected by any examination ***,it can be diagnosed by pancreatic juice cytology from indirect *** previous cases were diagnosed based on findings of a focal stricture of the main pancreatic duct(MPD)and caudal MPD dilatation and subsequent pancreatic juice cytology using endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography(ERCP).We experienced a case of high-grade PanIN with an unclear MPD over a 20-mm range,but without caudal MPD dilatation on magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography(MRCP).CASE SUMMARY A 60-year-old female patient underwent computed tomography for a follow-up of uterine cancer post-excision,which revealed pancreatic *** revealed an unclear MPD of the pancreatic body at a 20-mm length without caudal MPD ***,course observation was *** 24 mo,MRCP revealed an increased caudal MPD caliber and a larger pancreatic *** performed ERCP and detected atypical cells suspected of adenocarcinoma by serial pancreatic juice aspiration cytology *** performed a distal pancreatectomy and obtained a histopathological diagnosis of high-grade *** parenchyma invasion was not observed,and curative resection was *** High-grade Pan-IN may cause MPD narrowing in a long range without caudal MPD dilatation.

AIM： To evaluate the efficacy of combination chemotherapy with interferon-α （IFNα） and 5-fluorouracil （5-FU） in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC）. METHODS： Twenty-eight HCC patients in advanced stage were enrolled in the study. They were treated with IFNα/ 5-FU combination chemotherapy. One cycle of therapy lasted for 4 wk. IFNα （3×10^6 units） was subcutaneously injected thrice weekly on days 1, 3, and 5 for 3 wk, and 5-FU （500 mg/d） was administered via the proper hepatic artery for 5 consecutive days per week for 3 wk. No drugs were administered during the 4th wk. The effect of combination chemotherapy was evaluated in each patient alter every cycle based on the reduction of tumor volume. RESULTS： Alter the 1^st cycle of therapy, 16 patients showed a partial response （PR, 57.1%） but none showed a complete response （CR, 0%）. At the end of therapy, the number of patients who showed a CR, PR, or no response （NR） was 1, 10, and 17, respectively. The response rate for therapy （CR＋PR） was 21.5%. Biochemical tests before therapy were compared between responsive （CR＋PR） and non-responsive （NR） patients, but no significant differences were found for any of the parameters examined, indicating that no reasonable predictors could be identified in our analysis. CONCLUSION： Attempts should be made to discriminate between responders and non-responders by evaluating tumor size alter the first cycle of IFNα/5-FU combination chemotherapy. For non-responders, therapy should not proceed to the next cycle, and instead, different combination of anticancer drugs should be explored. 2005 The WJG Press and Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

Fundamental requirements for optical system design for volume recording system is identified. Anastigmatic objective lens design is required for conventional page-based system, whereas for multi-layer volume recording systems, an Aplanatic and zoom optical design is needed with an afocal sub-optical system including a high numerical aperture （NA） objective element. An NA 0.4 and four element design is feasible by only using off- the-shelf components. Recording depth ranges of 0.4 mm for wavelength 532 nm and 0.2 mm for 405 nm. The design demonstrates sufficiently small as-built wavefront error, less than 0.1 waves while implementing focusing and tracking capabilities to the design.

It is generally known that soil pollution poses a terrible hazard to the environment, but the present techniques of contaminated soil remediation cannot control this growing threat. This paper compares the pollutant extraction efficiency of traditional pumping and treating, which is a typical washing technology for the remediation of contaminated soils, with methods that utilize freeze-thaw cycles. In the soil freezing process, water shifts from unfrozen soils to the freezing front, and the permeability of soil will be enhanced under certain temperature gradients and water conditions. Therefore, this paper discusses the purification of contaminated soil through freeze-thaw action. We conducted a cleansing experiment on clay and silica sand infused with NaCl（simulation of heavy metals） and found that the efficiency of purification was enhanced remarkably in the latter by the freeze-thaw action. To assess the effective extraction of DNAPLs in soil, we conducted an experiment on suction by freezing, predicated on the different freezing points of moisture and pollutants. We found that the permeability coefficient was significantly increased by the freezing-thawing action, enabling the DNAPL contaminants to be extracted selectively and effectively.

AIM To evaluate the efficacy of direct-acting antivirals(DAAs) in Kanto Rosai Hospital. METHODS All patients with hepatitis C virus(HCV) who underwent DAA prescription were enrolled in this study. The present study was a single center retrospective analysis using patients infected with HCV genotype 1 or 2. Resistance analysis was performed by using direct sequencing and cycleave PCR in genotype 1 patients treated with interferon(IFN)-free DAA. The primary endpoint was sustained virologic response at 12 wk after therapy(SVR12).RESULTS A total of 117 patients participated in the study, including 135 with genotype 1 and 42 with genotype 2. Of the 135 patients with genotype 1, 16 received protease inhibitor + IFN + ribavirin and all achieved SVR. Of the 119 patients who received IFN-free DAA(in different combinations), 102 achieved SVR and 9 failed(7/9 were on daclatasvir/asunaprevir and 2/9 on ledipasvir/sofosbuvir). Efficacy analysis was done only for 43 patients who received daclatasvir/asunaprevir. From this analysis, Y93 resistance-associated substitutions were significantly correlated with *** The SVR rate was 98% for genotype 1 and 100% for genotype 2. However, caution is needed for HCV NS5 A resistance-associated substitutions that are selected by HCV NS5 A inhibitors because cerebrovascular adverse events are induced by some DAA drugs.

Extremely low lattice thermal conductivity is always the pursuit of thermoelectric materials *** this work,we reported an exceptional effect of Ag2S addition in MnTe,an emerging promising midtemperature thermoelectric material,to enable the realization of minimum lattice thermal conductivity,namely-0.4 Wm^(-1) K^(-1).Such a low lattice thermal conductivity is guaranteed by the incorporation of in-situ formed Ag rich phase(Ag2Te)with ultralow lattice thermal conductivity and further scattering of phonons from the partial doping effects induced point defects and boundaries between various *** from the dramatically decreased lattice thermal conductivity,the partial doping of Ag and S simultaneously enhance the electrical conductivity,further contributing to enhanced thermoelectric ***,an inverse sign of Seebeck and Hall coefficient was observed and rationalized by the influence of highly electron-conductive Ag_(2)Te *** to the synergetic modulation of electrical and thermal transport properties by in-situ formed composite,a high ZT value of 1.1 was achieved in MnTe based thermoelectric materials,which also demonstrates the importance of compositing approaches to design state-of-the-art thermoelectric materials.
