Non-Destructive Imaging of Water Permeation through Cementitious Materials Using MRI

In this study, water permeation through cementitious materials was observed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The influence of cement type on the magnetic resonance signal was studied subsequent to determining the parameters required for imaging. Consequently, adequate imaging of water permeating through hardened cement paste (HCP) made with white Portland cement was achieved, while water permeation through ordinary Portland cement-based HCP yielded poor signal. HCPs maintained at various levels of relative humidity (RH) were observed, and the signal was detected only from those maintained at an RH of higher than 85%. The water permeation depths in HCP were observed by using MRI, and the measured depths were compared to those measured via a spraying water detector on the split surface of the specimens. As a result, good agreement was confirmed between the two methods. Additionally, MRI was applied to concrete specimens;although it was found that water was not detected when a lightweight aggregate was used, water permeation through concrete with limestone aggregate was detectable via MRI. MRI will help in understanding how water permeation causes and accelerates concrete deteriorations such as rebar corrosion and freezing and thawing.

In recent years, we have been able to use various services using the position information of smartphones and tablets. In addition, research on intelligent transport systems (ITS) has been actively conducted. To consider reducing traffic accidents by exchanging position information between pedestrians and vehicles by vehicle-to-pedestrian communication, we require accurate position information for pedestrians and vehicles. The GPS (global positioning system) is the most widely used method for acquiring position information. However, in urban areas, the GPS signal is affected by the surrounding buildings, which increases the positioning error. In this study, a method to improve the positioning accuracy of pedestrians using the signal strengths from vehicles and beacons was proposed. First, a Kalman filter was applied to the signal strength. Then, the path loss index was dynamically calculated using vehicle-to-vehicle communication. Finally, the position of a pedestrian was obtained using weighted centroid localization (WCL) after filtering the nodes. The positioning accuracy was evaluated using a simulator and demonstrated the superiority of the proposed method.

Purpose: Overlapping and foreshortening on conventional coronary angiography is one reason why the presence of ostial lesions in the left anterior descending artery (LAD) is an independent predictor of insegment restenosis. Our previous study using 3-dimensional reconstruction coronary angiography demonstrated the superiority of a deeper caudal projection in clearly showing the ostium of the LAD compared to the standard right or left anterior oblique caudal view. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the short-and long-term efficacy of the ostial stenting technique using a deep caudal projection angle. Methods: A total of 30 consecutive patients who underwent stent deployment to treat LAD lesions positioned at the proximal edge of the stent in the ostium with a deep caudal projection were analyzed retrospectively. Results: The projection of right anterior oblique caudal 40° was used in 26 patients and that of left anterior oblique caudal 40° was used in four patients. Intravascular ultrasound examinations showed complete coverage of the ostium by the stent in 29 patients. In one patient, the stent did not cover the ostium. The mean protrusion of the stent over the ostium was 0.66 ± 0.85 mm. During the follow-up period (1203.5 [982-1329] days), the rate of target lesion failure was 16.7%, and there were no cases with in-stent restenosis of the main branch in which a drug-eluting stent covering the ostium of the LAD was successfully deployed. Conclusions: Focal stent placement using a deep caudal projection is a feasible and effective therapeutic strategy for treating ostial lesions in the LAD.

AIM:To investigate the usefulness of endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration(EUS-FNA) in the differentiation of autoimmune pancreatitis(AIP).METHODS:We retrospectively reviewed 47 of 56 AIP patients who underwent EUS-FNA and met the Asian diagnostic *** 47 EUS-FNA specimens,we evaluated the presence of adequate material and characteristic features of lymphoplasmacytic sclerosing pancreatitis(LPSP) and idiopathic duct-centric pancreatitis(IDCP) mentioned in the International Consensus Diagnostic Criteria and examined if these findings make a contribution to the differential diagnosis of type 1 and type 2 AIP.A disposable 22-gauge needle was used for ***:Adequate specimens including pancreatic tissue for differentiating AIP from cancer were obtained from 43 of 47 patients who underwent ***-FNA was performed from the pancreatic head in 21 cases,which is known to be technically difficult when performed by core biopsy;there was no significant difference in the results compared with pancreatic *** of 47 patients met level 1 findings of LPSP and 5 patients met level 2 findings of *** one met level 1 findings of IDCP,but 3 patients met level 2 findings of *** 10 seronegative cases,2 cases were diagnosed with "definitive type 1 AIP",and 3 cases were diagnosed with "probable type 2 AIP" when considering both the level 2 histological findings and response to ***:EUS-FNA is useful in the differentiation of type 1 and type 2 AIP,particularly in seronegative cases.

目的为了克服已有人呼吸道合胞病毒(human respiratory syncytial virus,hRSV)动物模型的局限性,如半受纳性和感染持续时间短,本文利用TALEN基因编辑技术建立了IL2rg基因敲除(IL2rg^(-/-))的大鼠模型。方法用hRSV滴鼻感染该动物模型,观察感染期(0~35 d)的临床表征、体重及体温变化;记录不同时间点(滴鼻感染后第4、11、20、35天)鼻腔、气管、肺等呼吸道脏器的病毒总拷贝数;在观察终点(滴鼻感染后第35天)对感染动物的靶器官进行病理分析;观察不同时间点(滴鼻感染后第4、20、35天)外周血T、B、NK、NKT细胞的变化及不同时间点多种细胞因子的变化。结果(1)通过鼻内接种hRSV后,纯合的IL2rg基因敲除大鼠的呼吸道内能保持较高的病毒载量,鼻腔中病毒的平均峰值滴度能快速升至1×10^(10 )copies/g,至第5周时,病毒依然能维持复制,病毒载量亦可达到1×10^(7)copies/g。(2)但其鼻、气管和肺组织,无明显病变。(3)感染hRSV的IL2rg^(-/-)大鼠外周血B细胞含量有上升。(4)IL-6和MCP-1两种细胞因子都在感染前期上升,在观察终点回落。结论本研究基于TALEN技术建立了IL2rg^(-/-)大鼠模型,并发现该模型能很好地支持hRSV高水平复制和并长期感染,为抗病毒药物筛选、抗hRSV抗体体内效力评价,提供了良好的动物模型。

＜正＞This paper suggests a new and direct design technique to generate stiffener patterns of plate and shell structures. The technique starts from seeds located on supporting edges and loading points, and extends the stiffeners around the seeds. Then, each stiffener will grow by obeying the growing and branching rules like trees, where growing rate of each stiffener will be decided so as to be proportional to the sensitivity of objective with respect to the cross sectional areas of stiffeners. The potential ability of branching will be assigned to the stiffeners greater than specified threshold dimensions, and the best direction of branch is selected depending on the effect of extension of a new branch. During the growing process of stiffener, the volume growth rate is controlled so as to be possible to create new branches and to eliminate degenerated stiffeners. The validity of suggested method is confirmed by the numerical results of various stiffener layout design examples.

Simple schizophrenia has not yet been recognized as a well-established diagnostic category as one of the subtypes of schizophrenia, however, its inclusion to the official diagnostic system is regarded as urgent for early intervention. Here, we report our new observation that body image distortion uniquely found in typical schizophrenia, as reflected in the perception of mass of flesh of living objects in the whole or part of the Rorschach stimuli (Koide et al., 2002), was shown in the patients conforming to the original description of simple schizophrenia, to revisit its relatedness to schizophrenia from a cognitive and perceptual point of view. The Rorschach test was administered to four inpatients of a local mental hospital, showing social and occupational decline, negative symptoms and absence of positive symptoms. The presence or absence of Rorschach flesh mass body image percepts was examined. All of four patients revealed Rorschach mass of flesh responses. The fact that simple schizophrenia exhibited the same body image distortion in the flesh mass passive global perception with typical schizophrenia suggests the adequacy of reconsidering simple schizophrenia as a form of schizophrenia.

Clean energy is the most promising technology for sustainable growth. The development of clean energy requires a considerable amount of R ＆ D （research ＆ development） expenditure and various core technologies, and therefore, international research collaboration is necessary for prompt and efficient development. The study is aimed at establishing a knowledge base that can help to prepare international research collaboration policies for solving global challenges effectively. The authors demonstrate the research capacity and international research collaboration in solar cell and fuel cell technologies, using global research network diagrams gathered from 35,322 and 33,136 academic papers, respectively. The diagrams include the data of research competency and co-authorship. More than 6,000 institutions and 100 countries are involved in each field. Based on the diagrams, the technologies are compared and international collaboration is analyzed. A valley of research collaboration in Asia is identified for both technologies. Then, science and education policies that influence the structures are discussed.

Effective Utilization of Concrete Sludge as Soil Improvement Materials

The amount of muddy soil generated from various kinds of construction sites is always problematic. It is very difficult to treat muddy soil because of its low strength and high water content. But, the reuse of muddy soil is necessary to reduce the total amount of industrial wastes. Surplus concrete is also in a similar situation. Coarse and fine aggregates are removed from surplus concrete as an intermediate treatment, however, concrete sludge still remains. The authors propose a reuse method that involves the muddy soil being mixed with concrete sludge as an improvement material. The possibility of the utilization of concrete sludge was investigated through laboratory experiments. As a result, it was found that the unconfined compressive strength of the improved soil mixed with concrete sludge increased as the curing proceeded.
