Energy-Dissipative Hydrogels:A Promising Material for Tissue Regeneration

Hydrogels are promising candidates for mimicking native extracellular matrix(ECM)and are therefore widely adopted as scaffolds in tissue engineering.However,conventional hydrogels composed of static networks are prone to permanent structural damages and lack the ability to provide the time-dependent mechanical cues,which are essential for cell development,ECM remodeling,and tissue regeneration.The recent substantial development in the structurally dynamic hydrogels with energy-dissipative ability has demonstrated the unique capability of such viscoelastic hydrogels to withstand extreme biomechanical loads and regulate cellular behaviors not present in classical hydrogels.This review starts with the general design principles for energy-dissipative hydrogels,followed by recent advancements in fabrication approaches for energy-dissipative hydrogels.We then highlight some applications of energy-dissipative hydrogels in tissue engineering,including bone and cartilage regeneration,vessel regeneration,nerve regeneration,and wound healing.Finally,we discuss about the key current challenges and future development of energy-dissipative hydrogels for biomedical applications.

A brief review of integrated and passive photonic reservoir computing systems and an approach for achieving extra non-linearity in passive devices

Photonic-based reservoir computing(RC) systems have attracted significant attention. Integrated and purely passive systems are compatible with complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor devices,but are limited by the lack of non-linear components. This study consists of two parts: firstly, a review on the published integrated and passive RC system is presented. The review focuses on the structural configuration(rather than the mathematical model) of the neural network; secondly, a new approach for achieving an integrated and passive photonic RC system is introduced and discussed. This approach employs a mode combiner in front of the reservoir to achieve an extra non-linearity in a purely passive device. Moreover,the approach is numerically investigated, and an XOR(exclusive or) task is used to test the device, and the result shows that the new approach satisfies the requirement of an RC system.

Direct transformation of fossil carbon into chemicals: A review

Despite the long tradition of fossil carbon(coal,char,and related carbon-based materials)for fueling mankind,the science of transforming them into chemicals is still demandingly progressing in the current energy scenario,especially when considering its responsibilities to the global climate change.Traditionally,there are four routes of preparing chemicals directly from fossil carbon,including hydrogasification,gasification,direct liquefaction,and oxidation,in the macroscope of gas-solid reaction(hydrogasification and gasification)and liquid-solid reaction(direct liquefaction and oxidation).When the study goes to microscale,the gas-solid reaction can be considered as the reaction between the severe condensed radicals and gas,while the liquid-solid reaction is the direct reaction between the radical and the activated-molecule.To have a full overview of the area,this review systematically summarizes the main factors in these processes and shows our own perspectives as follows,(ⅰ)stabilizing the free radicals generated from coal and then directly converting them has the highest efficiency in coal utilization;(ⅱ)the research on the self-catalytic process of coal structure will have a profound impact on the direct preparation of chemicals from fossil carbon.Further discussions are also proposed to guide the future study of the area into a more sustainable direction.

Ni-P-SBR composite-electroless-plating enables Si anode with high conductivity and elasticity for high performance Li-ion batteries application

Silica-based anode is widely employed for high energy density Li-ion batteries owing to their high theoretical specific capacity(4200 m A h g-1).However,it is always accompanied by a huge volume expansion(300%)and shrinks during the lithiation/delithiation process,further leading to low cycle stability.Efforts to mitigate the adverse effects caused by volume expansion such as robust binder matrix,Coreshell structure,etc.,inevitably affect the electronic conductivity within the electrode.Herein,a high conductivity and elasticity Si anode(Ni-P-SBR(styrene-butadiene rubber)@Si)was designed and fabricated via the Ni-P-SBR composite-electroless-plating process.In this design,the Si particles are surrounded by SBR polymer and Ni particles,where the SBR can adapt to the volume change and Ni particles can provide the electrode with high electronic conductivity.Therefore,the Ni-P-SBR@Si delivers a high initial capacity of 3470 m A h g-1and presents capacity retention of 49.4%within 200 cycles at 600 m A g-1.Additionally,a high capacity of 1153 m A h g-1can be achieved at 2000 m A g-1and can be cycled stably under bending conditions.This strategy provides feasible ideas to solve the key issues that limit the practical application of Si anodes.

Bandit neural architecture search based on performance evaluation for operation selection

Neural architecture search(NAS)plays an important role in many computer vision tasks.However,the high computational cost of forward and backward propagations during the search,process restricts its practical application.In this paper,we present the search process as a multi-armed bandit problem,where we take into account the uncertainty caused by the contradiction between the huge search space and limited number of trials.Bandit NAS optimizes the trade-off between exploitation and exploration for a highly efficient search.Specifically,we sampled from a set of operations in one trial,where each operation was weighted by its trial performance and a bias to allow operations with less training to be selected.We further reduced the search space by abandoning the operation with the lowest potential,significantly reducing the search cost.Experimental results on the CIFAR-10 dataset show that the resulting architecture achieves the most advanced precision with a search speed approximately two times faster than that of partially connected differentialble architecture search.On ImageNet,we attained the most advanced top-1 accuracy of 75.3%with a search time of 1.8 GPU days.

Network pharmacological prediction and molecular docking analysis of the combination of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz.and Paeonia lactiflora Pall.in the treatment of functional constipation and its verification

Background:We aimed to reveal the mechanism of functional constipation in the treatment of Atractylodes macrocephala Koidz.(AMK)and Paeonia lactiflora Pall.(PLP).Methods:The main active ingredients of AMK and PLP were screened by the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology(TCMSP)platform.A database of functional constipation targets was established by GeneCard and OMIM.An“ingredient-target”network map was constructed with Cytoscape software(version 3.7.1),and molecular docking analysis was performed on the components and genes with the highest scores.The rats in the normal group were given saline,and those in the other groups were given 10 mg/kg diphenoxylate once a day for 14 days.The serum and intestinal tissue levels of adenosine monophosphate(cAMP),protein kinase A(PKA),and adenylyl cyclase(AC)of the rats and aquaporin(AQP)1,AQP3,and AQP8 were measured.Results:AMK and PLP had a significant role in the regulation of targets in the treatment of functional constipation.After treatment with AMK,PLP,or mosapride,the serum and intestinal tissue levels of AC,cAMP,and PKA were significantly downregulated.Groups receiving AMK and PLP or mosapride exhibited a reduction in the level of AQP1,AQP3,and AQP8 to varying degrees.Conclusion:Molecular docking analysis revealed that AMK and PLP had a significant role in the regulation of targets in the treatment of functional constipation.Studies have confirmed that AMK and PLP can also affect AC,cAMP,and PKA.AC,cAMP,and PKA in model rats were significantly downregulated.AQP expression is closely related to AC,cAMP,and PKA.AMK and PLP can reduce the expression of AQP1,AQP3,and AQP9 in the colon of constipated rats.

Fractional derivative multivariable grey model for nonstationary sequence and its application

Most of the existing multivariable grey models are based on the 1-order derivative and 1-order accumulation, which makes the parameters unable to be adjusted according to the data characteristics of the actual problems. The results about fractional derivative multivariable grey models are very few at present. In this paper, a multivariable Caputo fractional derivative grey model with convolution integral CFGMC(q, N) is proposed. First, the Caputo fractional difference is used to discretize the model, and the least square method is used to solve the parameters. The orders of accumulations and differential equations are determined by using particle swarm optimization(PSO). Then, the analytical solution of the model is obtained by using the Laplace transform, and the convergence and divergence of series in analytical solutions are also discussed. Finally, the CFGMC(q, N) model is used to predict the municipal solid waste(MSW). Compared with other competition models, the model has the best prediction effect. This study enriches the model form of the multivariable grey model, expands the scope of application, and provides a new idea for the development of fractional derivative grey model.

The trusted sharing of Electronic Health Records(EHRs)can realize the efficient use of medical data resources.Generally speaking,EHRs are widely used in blockchain-based medical data platforms.EHRs are valuable private assets of patients,and the ownership belongs to patients.While recent research has shown that patients can freely and effectively delete the EHRs stored in hospitals,it does not address the challenge of record sharing when patients revisit doctors.In order to solve this problem,this paper proposes a deletion and recovery scheme of EHRs based on Medical Certificate Blockchain.This paper uses cross-chain technology to connect the Medical Certificate Blockchain and the Hospital Blockchain to real-ize the recovery of deleted EHRs.At the same time,this paper uses the Medical Certificate Blockchain and the InterPlanetary File System(IPFS)to store Personal Health Records,which are generated by patients visiting different medical institutions.In addition,this paper also combines digital watermarking technology to ensure the authenticity of the restored electronic medical records.Under the combined effect of blockchain technology and digital watermarking,our proposal will not be affected by any other rights throughout the process.System analysis and security analysis illustrate the completeness and feasibility of the scheme.

Preparation of Fluorine-free MXene Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x) and Its Electrical Properties

The fluorine-free MXene was prepared by Lewis acid salt etching of ternary layered ceramic MAX phase material.The structure of fluorine-free MXene was characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and X-ray diffractometry(XRD).The study finds that the layer spacing of fluorine-free MXene is approximately twice that of MXene etched by the liquid-phase method,compared to the conventional liquidphase method.It also has greater capacitive properties.Therefore,the MXene prepared by this method shows a great potential for application in the field of capacitors.

Geochemistry of the upper Permian sandstones in the Dalong Formation in the South Yellow Sea Basin,East China:implications to provenance,weathering,and tectonic setting

To reconstruct the paleoenvironment,the petrography and geochemical compositions of the upper Permian Dalong Formation(Fm)(P_(3)d)sandstones in the Central Uplift,South Yellow Sea Basin,was investigated,after which the provenance,tectonic setting,weathering conditions,and diagenetic history were determined.The Dalong Fm is mainly composed of sandstones with a few mudstones and limestones.The petrographic analysis showed that the P_(3)d sandstones are in low maturity and could be classified into feldspar sandstone and lithic sandstone on average framework composition of Q_(63)F_(16)L_(21).The major and trace element results show that Dalong Fm sandstones are enriched in Rb and depleted in Cr and Ni compared with the upper continental crust(UCC).The chemical weathering intensity is weak to low moderate in the source area as indicated by the chemical index of alteration(CIA)and other results from a variety of methods.The diagenetic process included three main stages:eodiagenesis,mesodiagenesis,and telodiagenesis.Tectonic discrimination plots show that the source areas were an active continental margin(ACM)and a passive continental margin(PCM),which may have been related to the northward movement of the Lower Yangtze Plate(LYP)and the collision between the LYP and the North China Plate(NCP).
