Use of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers increases the risk of postoperative acute kidney injury after elective endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair

Background: Endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) is the major treatment for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA);however, EVAR still carries a considerable risk of acute kidney injury (AKI). The present study aimed to investigate the risk factors for AKI after elective EVAR ***: This was a retrospective observational study. Eligible patients who underwent EVAR from September 2011 to March 2019 in West China Hospital were included. The primary outcome was the occurrence of AKI within two days after EVAR, which was defined by the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes Clinical Practice Guideline. Demographics, comorbidities, medications, laboratory tests, anatomical parameters of AAA, and relative operative details were collected as variables. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were applied to identify the risk factors among variables, and covariate interactions were further ***: A total of 679 eligible patients were included. The incidence of postoperative AKI was 8.2% (56/679) in the whole cohort, and it was associated with a lower 5-year survival rate (63.5%vs. 80.9%;χ^(2) = 4.10;P = 0.043). The multivariable logistic regression showed that chronic kidney disease (OR, 5.06;95% CI: 1.43-17.95;P = 0.012), angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs)/angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) (OR, 2.60;95% CI: 1.17-5.76;P = 0.019), and short neck (OR, 2.85;95% CI: 1.08-7.52;P = 0.035) were independent risk factors for postoperative AKI. In the covariate interaction analysis, the effect of ACEIs/ARBs use on postoperative AKI was similar across all subgroups (P > 0.05), thereby suggesting a robust effect of ACEIs/ARBs use in all patients undergoing elective endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm ***: Postoperative AKI was associated with lower survival rate, and the use of ACEIs/ARBs was the only adjustable independent risk factor. In this work,boron(B)was used to promote Fe^(3+)/peracetic acid(Fe^(3+)/PAA)for the degradation of sulfamethazine(SMT).An SMT degradation efficiency of 9.1%was observed in the Fe^(3+)/PAA system over 60 min,which was significantly increased to 99.3%in the B/Fe^(3+)/PAA system over 10 *** B/Fe^(3+)/PAA process also exhibited superior resistance to natural substances,excellent adaptability to different harmful substances,and good removal of antibiotics in natural fresh water *** mechanism of action of boron for Fe^(3+)reduction was determined using scanning electron microscopy(SEM),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS),Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR)spectroscopy,density functional theory(DFT)calculations,and electrochemical *** dominant role of^(·)OH was confirmed using quenching experiments,electron spin resonance(EPR)spectroscopy,and quantitative *** radicals(R-O^(·))and Fe(IV)also significantly contribute to the removal of *** calculations on the reaction between Fe^(2+)and the PAA were conducted to further determine the contribution from ^(·)OH,R-O^(·),and Fe(IV)from the perspective of thermodynamics and the reaction *** boron dosages,Fe^(3+)dosages,and initial pH values were also investigated in the B/Fe^(3+)/PAA system to study their effect of SMT removal and the production of the reactive ***(IV)production determined the k_(R-O·+Fe(IV))value suggesting that Fe(IV)may play a more important role than R-O^(·).A comparison of the results with other processes has also proved that the procedure described in this study(B/Fe^(3+)/PAA)is an effective method for the degradation of antibiotics.

Migrasomes are a novel type of cell organelle that form on the retraction fibers at the rear of migrating cells. In recent years, numerous studies have unveiled the mechanisms of migrasome formation and have highlighted significant roles of migrasomes in both physiological and pathological *** upon the strategies outlined in published works and our own research experiences, we have compiled a comprehensive set of protocols for observing migrasomes. These step-by-step instructions encompass various aspects such as cell culture, labeling, imaging, in vitro reconstitution, and statistical analysis. We believe that these protocols serve as a valuable resource for researchers exploring migrasome biology.

Two-dimensional(2D) materials are at the forefront of innovation, heralding a new era for nextgeneration electronics and optoelectronics. These materials are distinguished by their unique structural characteristics: they have no hanging bonds on their surface, exhibit weakened electrostatic shielding in the Z-direction, and boast atomic thickness in their monolayers. These features have led to groundbreaking discoveries in electrical, optical, and magnetic properties, paving the way for advancements in low-power electronics, valleytronics, infrared detectors, and memory devices. Despite these promising developments,Si-based technologies continue to dominate the landscape of next-generation electronics and optoelectronics,as well as heterogeneous integration. In response to this ongoing evolution, the National Natural Science Foundation of China(NSFC) initiated a major program in 2021 dubbed “Si-compatible two-dimensional semiconductor materials and devices”. This study reviews the progress made under the NSFC Program,spotlighting its main achievements and outlining key future research directions. Additionally, it sheds light on the challenges that researchers in the 2D domain face, particularly in developing Si-compatible 2D technologies.

Machine Learning Analysis of Impact of Western US Fires on Central US Hailstorms

Fires,including wildfires,harm air quality and essential public services like transportation,communication,and *** fires can also influence atmospheric conditions,including temperature and aerosols,potentially affecting severe convective ***,we investigate the remote impacts of fires in the western United States(WUS)on the occurrence of large hail(size:≥2.54 cm)in the central US(CUS)over the 20-year period of 2001–20 using the machine learning(ML),Random Forest(RF),and Extreme Gradient Boosting(XGB)*** developed RF and XGB models demonstrate high accuracy(>90%)and F1 scores of up to 0.78 in predicting large hail occurrences when WUS fires and CUS hailstorms coincide,particularly in four states(Wyoming,South Dakota,Nebraska,and Kansas).The key contributing variables identified from both ML models include the meteorological variables in the fire region(temperature and moisture),the westerly wind over the plume transport path,and the fire features(i.e.,the maximum fire power and burned area).The results confirm a linkage between WUS fires and severe weather in the CUS,corroborating the findings of our previous modeling study conducted on case simulations with a detailed physics model.

In recent years, cyber attacks have posed great challenges to the development of cyber-physical systems. It is of great significance to study secure state estimation methods to ensure the safe and stable operation of the system. This paper proposes a secure state estimation for multi-input and multi-output continuous-time linear cyber-physical systems with sparse actuator and sensor attacks. First, for sparse sensor attacks, we propose an adaptive switching mechanism to mitigate the impact of sparse sensor attacks by filtering out their attack modes. Second, an unknown input sliding mode observer is designed to not only observe the system states, sensor attack signals, and measurement noise present in the system but also counteract the effects of sparse actuator attacks through an unknown input matrix. Finally, for the design of an unknown input sliding mode state observer, the feasibility of the observing system is demonstrated by means of Lyapunov functions. Additionally, simulation experiments are conducted to show the effectiveness of this method.
