Comparing mass screening techniques for gastric cancer in Japan

AIM： To discuss the efficacy of endoscopic mass screening for gastric cancer.METHODS： The data used in this study were the results of mass screening programs for gastric cancer in Niigata City from 2002 to 2004. The number of participants was 35089 in 2002, 34557 in 2003 and 36600 in 2004. The finding ratio referred to the final diagnosis of gastric cancer after a double check of endoscopic files and histological findings. The costs of identifying one case of gastric cancer were calculated based on the total expense for each screening program and additional close examinations. RESULTS： From the analysis of individual screening program with endoscopy, individual screening program with X-ray （ISX） and mass screening program with photofluorography （MSP） in reference to the finding ratio of gastric cancer, endoscopic examination was the best for detecting early gastric cancer, the finding ratio was 0.87% in 2004, approximately 2.7 and 4.6 times higher than those of the ISX and MSP groups. In addition, this novel method was the cheapest means regarding the cost of identifying one case of gastric cancer, which was estimated to be 1608000 Japanese yen in 2004. CONCLUSION： Endoscopic mass screening is a promising method and can be effectively applied if a sufficient number of skilled endoscopists become available to staff the system and if city offices support it.

An experimental and analytical study has been carried out to obtain the clear understanding of a shock wave transition associated with a steady two-dimensional overexpanded flow. Two-dimensional inviscid theory with respect to a shock wave reflection is used in the present study on the characteristic of shock waves. The results obtained from the flow analysis are compared with those obtained from flow visualizations. It is shown that in the region of regular reflection, the angle of an incident shock wave becomes lower than that calculated by two shock theory with an increment in the ratio PJPb of the nozzle exit pressure Pc to the back pressure Pb. It is indicated that the configuration of shock waves in overexpanded jets is influenced by the divergent angle at the nozzle exit. Also it is shown from the flow visualization that a series of shock waves move into the nozzle inside with a decrease in pressure ratio Pc/Pb, even if the Pc/Pb is under overexpanded conditions.

Edible birds’nests(EBNs)have traditionally been produced in Southeast *** farmers construct buildings for swiftlets and harvest their *** farming does not directly degrade forest resources and is therefore considered a sustainable means of production,whereas the expansion of other agricultural activities often relies on the degradation of natural *** study examines the relationship between natural resources and agricultural livelihoods,focusing on Indonesian EBN *** survey data that we collected in 2017,combined with satellite information on the extent of the forest in Central Kalimantan,Indonesia,we measured production efficiency and identified the natural and social factors that enhance production *** results show that a forest extent ranging between 2,000 and 6,000 meters from nesting building is positively associated with the production efficiency of EBN farming,perhaps because extensive forest could help swiftlets to collect food and build ***,while EBN farming is a sustainable and profitable option,the initial costs of constructing buildings to house swiftlets may deter farmers from participating in the process.

Nanoscale cantilevers(nanocantilevers)made from carbon nanotubes(CNTs)provide tremendous benefits in sensing and electromagnetic *** nanoscale structure is generally fabricated using chemical vapor deposition and/or dielectrophoresis,which contain manual,time-consuming processes such as the placing of additional electrodes and careful observation of single-grown ***,we demonstrate a simple and Artificial Intelligence(Al)-assisted method for the effcient fabrication of a massive CNT-based *** used randomly positioned single CNTs on the *** trained deep neural network recognizes the CNTs,measures their positions,and determines the edge of the CNT on which an electrode should be clamped to form a *** experiments demonstrate that the recognition and measurement processes are automatically completed in 2 s,whereas comparable manual processing requires 12 *** the small measurement error by the trained network(within 200 nm for 90%of the recognized CNTs),more than 34 nanocantilevers were successfully fabricated in one *** high accuracy contributes to the development of a massive field emitter using the CNT-based nanocantilever,in which the output current is obtained with a low applied *** further showed the benefit of fabricating massive CNT-nanocantilever-based field emitters for neuromorphic *** activation function,which is a key function in a neural network,was physically realized using an individual CNT-based field *** introduced neural network with the CNT-based field emitters recognized handwritten images *** believe that our method can accelerate the research and development of CNT-based nanocantilevers for realizing promising future applications.
