A proble. for a ce.tral crack in a plate.subje.te. to plane.strain conditions is inve.tigate.. Mode.I crack loading is cre.te. by a dynamic pre.sure.pulse.applie. at a large.distance.from the.crack. It was found that for a ce.tain combination of amplitude.and duration of the.pulse.applie., the.e.e.gy transmitte. to the.sample.has a strongly marke. minimum, me.ning that with the.pulse.amplitude.or duration moving away from the.optimal value., minimum e.e.gy re.uire. for initiation of crack growth incre.se. rapidly. The.re.ults obtaine. indicate.a possibility to optimise.e.e.gy consumption of diffe.e.t industrial proce.se. conne.te. with fracture. Much could be.gaine. in, for e.ample. drilling or rock pounding whe.e.e.e.gy input accounts for the.large.t part of the.proce.s cost. Pre.umably furthe. inve.tigation of the.e.fe.t obse.ve. can make.it possible.to pre.ict optimal e.e.gy saving parame.e.s, i.e. fre.ue.cy and amplitude.of impacts, for industrial de.ice., e.g. bore., grinding machine., and he.ce.significantly re.uce.the.proce.s cost.
