Quantum-chemical calculations of polyatomic clusters simulating a boundary between grains in a surface layer of steel were carried out. Along with iron atoms the clusters contain atoms of alloying and impurity elements which appear on the boundary due to grain boundary segregation or intergrain diffusion. The influence of the chemical composition of a segregate on the strength of coupling between grains and, eventually, on steel wear resistance is analyzed. Results obtained show that the degree of the strength of binding of segregated atoms with atoms of iron in a metal surface layer is an essential factor influencing wear resistance. It is found that the dependence of energy of binding of atoms of different elements with grain surface on the atomic number complies with the periodic law. This fact can be considered as a theoretical base for the prognostication of strength properties of steel with different composition of alloying and impurity elements. Potential energy curves corresponding to the movement of atoms on iron surface are studied. They can be useful for design of the composition of multi-layer coats on steel.

AIM: To examine whether the heteroplasmy level for 15059G>A mutation in the mitochondrial genome might be associated with essential hypertension. METHODS: This cross-sectional study involved 196 unrelated participants randomly selected from general population (90 males and 106 females) who underwent a regular medical check-up at the Institute for Ath-erosclerosis Research (Moscow, Russia). One hundred and twenty of them (61%) had essential hypertension, and 76 (39%) were apparently healthy normotensive persons. The level of heteroplasmy for 15059G>A mutation occurring in the coding region of cytochrome b gene (MT-CYB) of mtDnA isolated from the blood leukocytes, was quantified using DnA pyrosequencing method. RESULTS: The 15059G>A heteroplasmy level ranged between 4% and 83%, with a median level of 31%. Between the upper and lower quartiles of 15059G>A heteroplasmy distribution, significant differences were observed for patients’ age, systolic blood pressure, and triglyceride levels. 15059G>A heteroplasmy correlated both with age (r = 0.331, P nd the presence of hypertension (r = 0.228, P = 0.002). Regression analysis revealed that the age explains 12% variability of 15059G>A heteroplasmy, and hypertension independently explains more 5% variability. The 15059G>A heteroplasmy exceeding 31% was found to be significantly associated with a higher risk of essential hypertension (odds ratio 2.76; P (Fisher) 0.019]. The study participants with high 15059G>A heteroplasmy level were found to have significantly higher age (P nd the prevalence of essential hypertension (P = 0.033), as compared to those with low 15059G>A heteroplasmy level. These observations suggested a positive correlation between the level of 15059G>A heteroplasmy and essential hypertension. COnCLUSIOn: This study provides the evidence of association of mtDnA 15059G>A mutation heteroplasmy with essential hypertension.

The liver is a unique parenchymal organ with a regenerative capacity allowing it to restore up to 70%of its *** knowledge of this phenomenon dates back to Greek mythology(the story of Prometheus),many aspects of liver regeneration are still not understood.A variety of different factors,including inflammatory cytokines,growth factors,and bile acids,promote liver regeneration and control the final size of the organ during typical regeneration,which is performed by mature hepatocytes,and during alternative regeneration,which is performed by recently identified resident stem cells called“hepatic progenitor cells”.Hepatic progenitor cells drive liver regeneration when hepatocytes are unable to restore the liver mass,such as in cases of chronic injury or excessive acute *** liver maintenance,the body mass ratio is essential for homeostasis because the liver has numerous functions;therefore,a greater understanding of this process will lead to better control of liver injuries,improved transplantation of small grafts and the discovery of new methods for the treatment of liver *** current review sheds light on the key molecular pathways and cells involved in typical and progenitor-dependent liver mass regeneration after various acute or chronic *** studies and a better understanding of liver regeneration will lead to the development of new therapeutic methods for liver diseases.

A novel surface active monomer （surfmer） containing poly（ethylene glycol） chain and terminated phosphate group was synthesized. The copolymerization of synthesized surfmer with nVP （n-vinylpyrrolidone） and with nVP and VEP （5-tert-butylperoxy-5-methyl-2-hexene-3-yne monomer） led to formation of corresponding surface-active copolymers. The capability of application of resulted copolymers as surface active macroinitiators of emulsion polymerization of styrene and as components of polymeric scaffolds was investigated.
