Optimization strategies for Cd and Pb immobilization in soil using meta-analysis combined with numerical modeling

Chemical immobilization is one of the most effective technologies for remediating sites with heavy metals,but the selection of proper immobilization material and determination of its dose ratio is a challenge that limits the remediation *** this study,we conducted a meta-analysis of 489 independent observations on the immobilization of heavy metals,in which the immobilization materials were divided into biochar,phosphate,lime,metal oxides,and clay *** statistical analysis of these observations revealed that the material dose ratio was the most important parameter that controlled immobilization efficiency,and the Freundlich adsorption model was successfully applied to calculate the bioavailable heavy metal(BHM)concentration after *** on the calculation results,phosphate was the most effective material for Pb *** was the most effective when the initial bioavailable Cd content was 0.1–1 mg kg^(-1),whereas the immobilization effects of lime and phosphate were similar when the initial bioavailable Cd content was 10 mg kg^(-1).In addition to the material dose ratio,initial soil pH(pHi)and organic matter(OM)content were negatively correlated,whereas the fraction of initial BHMs before immobilization(FB)and immobilization time were positively correlated with immobilization efficiency.A numerical model that considered the material dose ratio,pHi,OM,FB,and immobilization time was established to calculate the residual BHM concentration after ***,these factors only explained less than 45%of the immobilization effect,indicating that other factors,such as the sub-type of the material and modification methods,also affect the immobilization *** results could help to optimize the type of immobilization material of heavy metals and its dose ratio in practical engineering applications.

Disinfection byproducts in drinking water and regulatory compliance： A critical review

Disinfection by-products （DBPs） are regulated in drinking water in a number of countries. This critical review focuses on the issues associated with DBP regulatory compliance, including methods for DBP analysis, occurrence levels, the regulation comparison among various countries, DBP compliance strategies, and emerging DBPs. The regulation comparison between China and the United States （US） indicated that the DBP regulations in China are more stringent based on the number of regulated compounds and maximum levels. The comparison assessment using the Information Collection Rule （ICR） database indicated that the compliance rate of 500 large US water plants under the China regulations is much lower than that under the US regulations （e.g. 62.2% versus 89.6% for total trihalomethanes）. Precursor removal and alternative disinfectants are common practices for DBP regulatory compliance. DBP removal after formation, including air stripping for trihalomethane removal and biodegradation for haloacetic acid removal, have gained more acceptance in DBP control. Formation of emerging DBPs, including iodinated DBPs and nitrogenous DBPs, is one of unintended consequences of precursor removal and alternative disinfection. At much lower levels than carbonaceous DBPs, however, emerging DBPs have posed higher health risks.

Preparation and optical properties of three-dimensional navel-like Bi_2WO_6 hierarchical microspheres

Three-dimensional(3D) navel-like Bi_2WO_6(BWO) hierarchical microspheres(HMSs) were successfully prepared using a simple hydrothermal method. The as-obtained BWO samples were characterized by a variety of techniques. XRD result indicated that the as-synthesized samples were well-crystallized orthorhombic phase Bi_2WO_6 structure. SEM observations revealed that the hierarchical microspheres with an average diameter of 2 μm were built from several dozen of nanosheets. UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectrum study revealed that the obtained BWO sample had band gap energy of about 3.3 ***(PL) result showed that the sample had weak emission intensity. The BET specific surface area of the BWO sample was about 35.40 m^2/g. The photocatalytic efficiency of the as-obtained BWO was evaluated by the degradation of norfloxacin(NOR) antibiotic. The result showed an about 67%NOR degradation in 8 h.

Humic acid(HA),a principal constituent of natural organic matter(NOM),manifests ubiquitously across diverse ecosystems and can significantly influence the environmental behaviors of Cd(II)in aquatic *** studies on NOM-Cd(II)interactions have primarily focused on the immobilization of Cd(II)solids,but little is known about the colloidal stability of organically complexed Cd(II)particles in the *** this study,we investigated the formation of HA-Cd(II)colloids and quantified their aggregation,stability,and transport behaviors in a saturated porous media representative of typical subsurface *** from batch experiments indicated that the relative quantity of HA-Cd(II)colloids increased with increasing C/Cd molar ratio and that the carboxyl functional groups of HA dominated the stability of HA-Cd(II)*** results of correlation analysis between particle size,critical aggregation concentration(CCC),and zeta potential indicated that both Derjaguin-Landau-Verwey-Overbeek(DLVO)and non-DLVO interactions contributed to the enhanced colloidal stability of HA-Cd(II)*** results further confirmed that the stable HA-Cd(II)colloid can transport fast in a saturated media composed of clean ***,this study provides newknowledge of the colloidal behaviors of NOM-Cd(II)nanoparticles,which is important for better understanding the ultimate cycling of Cd(II)in aquatic systems.

Numerical Simulation of External-Cavity Distributed Feedback Semiconductor Laser

We propose a theoretical model to describe external-cavity distributed feedback semiconductor lasers and investigate the impact of the number of external feedback points on linewidth and side-mode suppression ratio through numerical simulation. The simulation results demonstrate that the linewidth of external-cavity semiconductor lasers can be reduced by increasing the external cavity length and feedback ratio, and adding more external feedback points can further narrow the linewidth and enhance the side mode suppression ratio. This research provides insight into the external cavity distributed feedback mechanism and can guide the design of high-performance external cavity semiconductor lasers. .

Coherent Parameter Measurement Based on Partial Coherent Envelope Demodulation

The key parameters of laser energy concentration and coherence can be characterized by laser linewidth, which determines the detection range, measurement resolution and signal-to-noise ratio of laser precision measurement technology. Up to now, the laser linewidth is mainly measured by the energy distribution width in the frequency domain, but the coherence of the laser has not been measured or characterized directly. In this work, we propose the concept of coherent linewidth based on the coherent envelope of delayed self-heterodyne detection to directly characterize the time-frequency coherence of lasers. In the proof-of-concept experiment, we obtain the coherence coefficient through the Fourier transform of the partial coherence envelope, and then measure the coherence linewidth of the laser. The measured coherent linewidth is smaller than the traditional integral linewidth and larger than the intrinsic Lorentzian linewidth, indicating that the coherent linewidth is less affected by low-frequency 1/f noise. The concept of coherent linewidth proposed in this article can serve as a candidate method for directly characterizing the coherence of narrow linewidth lasers. .

Potassium ions and cyano group modified g-C_(3)N_(4) for effective generation of H_(2)O_(2) through two-electron oxygen reduction

Potassium ions(K^(+))doped graphitic carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4))was prepared by a thermal etching method using potassium hydroxide(KOH)as an ion *** transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)results showed that the generation of the cyano group was detected while introducing K^(+).Under simulated sunlight irradiation,the sample with a K^(+)doping amount of 10%showed the highest hydrogen peroxide(H_(2)O_(2))generation rate of2,140.2μmol h^(-1)g^(-1).The apparent quantum yield(AQY)at 400 nm and the solar-to-chemical conversion(SCC)are 4.35%and1.23%,respectively.K^(+)acted as a bridge between g-C_(3)N_(4)layers,which enhanced charge transfer ***,the cyano group enhanced the adsorption capacity of protons(H^(+))and promoted the yield of H_(2)O_(2).The catalyst exhibited excellent photocatalytic stability based on four-cycle *** addition,a mechanism study showed that superoxide radicals(·O_(2)^(-))were the most important active species in the reaction *** production of H_(2)O_(2)was achieved through consecutive single-electron *** study deepens the understanding of the oxygen reduction reaction process and opens up a new venue for improving H_(2)O_(2)generation.
