Boron nitride nanofibers enhanced composite PEO-based solid-state polymer electrolytes for lithium metal batteries

Polyethylene oxide(PEO)-based solid-state polymer electrolytes(SPEs)are limited by their poor cyclic stability and inferior ionic conductivity for applicating in high-safety,long-cycling and high-energy-density lithium metal batteries.Herein,porous boron nitride nanofibers(BNNFs)are filled into PEO-based SPE,which significantly suppresses Li dendrites growth and enhances the electrochemical performance of Li metal battery.BNNFs with high porosity have more active sites to connect with PEO,which can effectively reduce the crystallinity of the PEO matrix and enhance its ionic conductivity.Moreover,owing to the hardness and good stability of BNNFs,BNNFs/PEO/Li TFSI electrolyte exhibits a wider electrochemical window,better mechanical property and higher thermal stability compared with PEO/Li TFSI electrolyte.Consequently,the Li symmetric cell composed of 1%BNNFs/PEO/Li TFSI performs good cyclic stability(>1800 h),and the Li||1%BNNFs/PEO/Li TFSI||LFP full battery shows obviously improved performances in charge-discharge polarization voltage,discharge specific capacity,rate performance and cyclic stability than the Li||PEO/Li TFSI||LFP battery.

The practical application of aqueous zinc-ion batteries(ZIBs)is limited by the growth of dendrite during cycling.How to rationally design and construct an efficient artificial interface layer by selecting suitable building units to control the dendrite growth is still a challenge.Herein,a porous boron nitride nanofibers(BNNFs)artificial interface layer was constructed,and its working mechanisms were revealed by both experiments(electrochemical characterization and in-situ optical microscope)and theoretical calculations(density functional theory(DFT)and finite element simulation).The insulated BNNFs layer leads to position-selected electroplating between BNNFs layer and Zn foil.The unique negatively charged surface and porosity of BNNFs contribute to the self-concentrating and pumping features of Zn ions,thus suppressing the concentration polarization on the Zn surface.Additionally,densely arranged porous BNNFs have a shunt effect on Zn ions diffusion,resulting in uniform distributions of Zn ions and electric field.The introduced BNNFs layer not only makes Zn deposition uniform but also restrains the dendrite growth,therefore the Zn+BNNFs symmetric cells perform ultralong stable cycling for 1,600 h at 1 mA·cm–2 and more than 500 h at 10 mA·cm–2.Moreover,Zn+BNNFs||CNT/MnO2 battery presents a high initial capacity of 293.6 mAh·g–1 and an excellent retention rate of 97.6%at 1 A·g–1 after 400 cycles,while Zn||CNT/MnO2 battery only maintains 37.1%discharge capacity.This artificial interface layer with negatively charged BNNFs exhibits excellent dendrite-inhibit and may have enormous prospects in other metal batteries.

Background Immunization is one of the most far-reaching and cost-effective strategies for promoting good health and saving lives.A complex immunization schedule,however,may be burdensome to parents and lead to reduced vaccine compliance and completion.Thus,it is critical to develop combination vaccines to reduce the number of injections and simplify the immunization schedule.This study aimed to investigate the current status of the pentavalent diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis inactivated poliomyelitis andHaemophilus influenzae type B conjugate(DTaP-IPV/Hib)vaccination in Southern China as well as explore the factors in the general population associated with uptake and the differences between urban and rural populations.Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted with recently enrolled kindergarten students in Hainan Province between December 2022 and January 2023.The study employed a stratified multistage cluster random sampling method.Information regarding the demographic characteristics and factors that influence decisions were collected from the caregivers of children via an online questionnaire.Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine the factors associated with the status of DTap-IPV/Hib vaccinations.Results Of the 4818 valid responses,95.3%of children were aged 3-4 years,and 2856(59.3%)held ruralhukou.Coverage rates of the DTaP-IPV/Hib vaccine,from 1 to 4 doses,were 24.4%,20.7%,18.5%,and 16.0%,respectively.Caregivers who are concerned about vaccine efficacy[adjusted odds ratio(aOR)=1.53,95%confidence interval(CI):1.30-1.79],the manufacturer(aOR=2.05,95%CI:1.69-2.49),and a simple immunization schedule(aOR=1.26,95%CI:1.04-1.54)are factors associated with a higher likelihood of vaccinating children against DTaP-IPV/Hib.In addition,caregivers in urban areas showed more concern about the vaccine price(P=0.010)and immunization schedule(P=0.022)in regard to vaccinating children.Conclusions The DTaP-IPV/Hib vaccine coverage rate in Hainan Province remains low.Factors such as lower socioeconomi

An antigen self-assembled and dendritic cell-targeted nanovaccine for enhanced immunity against cancer

The rise of nanotechnology has opened new horizons for cancer immunotherapy.However,most nano vaccines fabricated with nanomaterials suffer from carrier-related concerns,including low drug loading capacity,unpredictable metabolism,and potential systemic toxicity,which bring obstacles for their clinical translation.Herein,we developed an antigen self-assembled nanovaccine,which was resulted from a simple acryloyl modification of the antigen to induce self-assembly.Furthermore,a dendritic cell targeting head mannose monomer and a mevalonate pathway inhibitor zoledronic acid(Zol)were integrated or absorbed onto the nanoparticles(denoted as MEAO-Z)to intensify the immune response.The synthesized nano vaccine with a diameter of around 70 nm showed successful lymph node transportation,high dendritic cell internalization,promoted costimulatory molecule expression,and preferable antigen cross-presentation.In virtue of the above superiorities,MEAO-Z induced remarkably higher titers of serum antibody,stronger cytotoxic T lymphocyte immune responses and IFN-γsecretion than free antigen and adjuvants.In vivo,MEAO-Z significantly suppressed EG7-OVA tumor groth and prolonged the survival time of tumor-bearing mice.These results indicated the translation promise of our self-assembled nano vaccine for immune potentiation and cancer immunotherapy.

Comparative metabolomics provides novel insights into the basis of petiole color differences in celery(Apium graveolens L.)

Plant metabolites are important for plant development and human health.Plants of celery(Apium graveolens L.)with different-colored petioles have been formed in the course of long-term evolution.However,the composition,content distribution,and mechanisms of accumulation of metabolites in different-colored petioles remain elusive.Using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry(UHPLC-MS/MS),1159 metabolites,including 100 lipids,72 organic acids and derivatives,83 phenylpropanoids and polyketides,and several alkaloids and terpenoids,were quantified in four celery cultivars,each with a different petiole color.There were significant differences in the types and contents of metabolites in celery with different-colored petioles,with the most striking difference between green celery and purple celery,followed by white celery and green celery.Annotated analysis of metabolic pathways showed that the metabolites of the different-colored petioles were significantly enriched in biosynthetic pathways such as anthocyanin,flavonoid,and chlorophyll pathways,suggesting that these metabolic pathways may play a key role in determining petiole color in celery.The content of chlorophyll in green celery was significantly higher than that in other celery cultivars,yellow celery was rich in carotenoids,and the content of anthocyanin in purple celery was significantly higher than that in the other celery cultivars.The color of the celery petioles was significantly correlated with the content of related metabolites.Among the four celery cultivars,the metabolites of the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway were enriched in purple celery.The results of quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(q RT-PCR)suggested that the differential expression of the chalcone synthase(CHS)gene in the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway might affect the biosynthesis of anthocyanin in celery.In addition,HPLC analysis revealed that cyanidin is the main pigment in purple celery.This study explored the differences in the types and cont

Understanding Pseudocapacitance Mechanisms by Synchrotron X-ray Analytical Techniques

Pseudocapacitive materials that store charges via reversible surface or near-surface faradaic reactions are capable of overcoming the capacity limitations of electrical double-layer capacitors.Revealing the structure–activity relationship between the microstructural features of pseudocapacitive materials and their electrochemical performance on the atomic scale is the key to build high-performance capacitor-type devices containing ideal pseudocapacitance effect.Currently,the high brightness(flux),and spectral and coherent nature of synchrotron X-ray analytical techniques make it a powerful tool for probing the structure–property relationship of pseudocapacitive materials.Herein,we report a comprehensive and systematic review of four typical characterization techniques(synchrotron X-ray diffraction,pair distribution function[PDF]analysis,soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy,and hard X-ray absorption spectroscopy)for the study of pseudocapacitance mechanisms.In addition,we offered significant insights for understanding and identifying pseudocapacitance mechanisms(surface redox pseudocapacitance,intercalation pseudocapacitance,and the extrinsic pseudocapacitance phenomenon in battery materials)by combining in situ hard XAS and electrochemical analyses.Finally,a perspective for further depth of understanding into the pseudocapacitance mechanism using synchrotron X-ray analytical techniques is proposed.

AN IMPROVED RANDOM WALK SEGMENTATION ON THE LUNG NODULES

In this paper, we proposed a semi-automatic technique with a marker indicating the target to locate and segment nodules. For the lung nodule detection, we develop a Gabor texture feature by FCM (Fuzzy C Means) segmentation. Given a marker indicating a rough location of the nodules, a decision process is followed by applying an ellipse fitting algorithm. From the ellipse mask, the foreground and background seeds for the random walk segmentation can be automatically obtained. Finally, the edge of the nodules is obtained by the random walk algorithm. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method are evaluated with the various types of the nodules to identify the edges, so that it can be used to locate the nodule edge and its growth rate.

A Small-Scale Medication of Leflunomide as a Treatment of COVID-19 in an Open-Label Blank-Controlled Clinical Trial

We recently reported that inhibitors against human dihydroorotate dehydrogenase(DHODH)have broad-spectrum antiviral activities including their inhibitory efficacies on SARS-CoV-2 replication in infected cells.However,there are limited data from clinical studies to prove the application of DHODH inhibitors in Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)patients.In the present study,we evaluated Leflunomide,an approved DHODH inhibitor widely used as a modest immune regulator to treat autoimmune diseases,in treating COVID-19 disease with a small-scale of patients.Cases of 10 laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 patients of moderate type with obvious opacity in the lung were included.Five of the patients were treated with Leflunomide,and another five were treated as blank controls without a placebo.All the patients accepted standard supportive treatment for COVID-19.The patients given Leflunomide had a shorter viral shedding time(median of5 days)than the controls(median of 11 days,P=0.046).The patients given Leflunomide also showed a significant reduction in C-reactive protein levels,indicating that immunopathological inflammation was well controlled.No obvious adverse effects were observed in Leflunomide-treated patients,and they all discharged from the hospital faster than controls.This preliminary study on a small-scale compassionate use of Leflunomide provides clues for further understanding of Leflunomide as a potential antiviral drug against COVID-19.

新能源汽车产业的竞争力依赖于技术创新,如何提高我国新能源汽车企业技术创新效率是促进我国汽车产业发展的重点。文章基于创新价值链理论,将企业的创新过程划分为两个阶段,即技术创新和成果转化,选取16家新能源汽车企业作为研究对象,采用网络SBM模型和Malmquist指数模型从静态和动态角度对车企的创新效率进行测度。研究结果表明在新能源汽车企业的技术创新效率中,技术创新阶段效率低于成果转化阶段,但是企业技术创新效率在总体上不断提升。因此,注重技术创新阶段的效率和促进发明成果的实际应用是提升车企技术创新效率的重点。
