Ecosystem Development of Haizhou Bay Ecological Restoration Area from 2003 to 2013

Two Ecopath mass-balance models were implemented for evaluating the structure and function of Haizhou Bay Ecological Restoration Area ecosystem using 14 ecological indicators in two distinctive years(2003 and 2013). The results showed that the size of HZERA ecosystem became larger as total biomass was increased in last decade, especially in primary producer and zooplankton groups. Total system throughput increased from 7496.00 t km^(-2) yr^(-1) to 9547.54 t km^(-2) yr^(-1). The P/R(production/respiration) ratio decreased over the decade. Finn's cycling index and Finn's mean path length increased over the decade. No keystone species(KS) occurred during ten years; however, evidences of top-down control in 2003 and 2013 models were demonstrated by high KS value belonging to Lophius litulon group in food web. Drawing upon Odum's theory of ecosystem maturity, the structured, web-like ecosystem of 2013 model had developed into a highly mature system compared with that of 2003 model.

Trophic Ecology of Sharks in the Mid-East Pacific Ocean Inferred from Stable Isotopes

As apex predators, sharks are of ecological and conservation importance in marine ecosystems. In this study, trophic positions of sharks were estimated using stable isotope ratios of carbon and nitrogen for five representative species caught by the Chinese longline fleet in the mid-east Pacific, i.e., the blue shark （Prionace glauca）, the bigeye thresher shark （Alopias superciliosus）, the silky shark （Carcharhinus falciformis）, the scalloped hammerhead （Sphyrna lewini）, and the oceanic whitetip shark （Car-charhinus longimanus）. Of these species, oceanic whitetip shark has the lowest trophic level and mean 815N value （3.9 and 14.93%o± 0.84%o）, whereas bigeye thresher shark has the highest level/values （4.5 and 17.02%o±1.21%o, respectively）. The bigeye thresher shark has significantly higher 515N value than other shark species, indicating its higher trophic position. The blue shark and oceanic whitetip shark has significantly higher 813C values than bigeye thresher shark, silky shark and scalloped hammerhead, possibly due to different diets and/or living habitats. The stable isotope data and stomach content data are highly consistent, suggesting that sta-ble isotope analysis supplements traditional feeding ecology study of sharks, and thus contributes to understanding their trophic linkage.

Food web structures are well known to vary widely among ecosystems. Moreover, many food web studies of lakes have generally attempted to characterize the overall food web structure and have largely ignored internal spatial and environmental variations. In this study, we hypothesize that there is a high degree of spatial heterogeneity within an ecosystem and such heterogeneity may lead to strong variations in environmental conditions and resource availability, in turn resulting in dif ferent trophic pathways. Stable carbon and nitrogen isotopes were employed for the whole food web to describe the structure of the food web in different sub-basins within Taihu Lake. This lake is a large eutrophic freshwater lake that has been intensively managed and highly influenced by human activities for more than 50 years. The results show significant isotopic dif ferences between basins with dif ferent environmental characteristics. Such differences likely result from isotopic baseline dif ferences combining with a shift in food web structure. Both are related to local spatial heterogeneity in nutrient loading in waters. Such variation should be explicitly considered in future food web studies and ecosystem-based management in this lake ecosystem.

Recently,high-entropy alloys(HEAs)designed by the concepts of unique entropy-stabilized mechanisms,started to attract widespread interests for their hydrogen storage *** with body-centered cubic(BCC)structures present a high potential for hydrogen storage due to the high hydrogen-to-metal ratio(up to H/M=2)and vastness of *** many studies reported rapid absorption kinetics,the investigation of hydrogen desorption is missing,especially in BCC *** have investigated the crystal structure,microstructure and hydrogen storage performance of a series of HEAs in the Ti-V-Nb-Cr *** types of TiVCrNb HEAs(Ti_(4)V_(3)NbCr_(2),Ti_(3)V_(3)Nb2Cr_(2),Ti_(2)V_(3)Nb_(3)Cr_(2))with close atomic radii and different valence electron concentrations(VECs)were designed with single BCC phase by CALPHAD *** three alloys with fast hydrogen absorption kinetics reach the H/M ratio up to ***,Ti_(4)V_(3)NbCr_(2)alloy shows the hydrogen storage capacity of 3.7 wt%,higher than other HEAs ever *** dehydrogenation activation energy of HEAs’hydride has been proved to decrease with decreasing VEC,which may be due to the weakening of alloy atom and H ***,Ti_(4)V_(3)NbCr_(2)M(M=Mn,Fe,Ni)alloys were also synthesized to destabilize *** addition of Mn,Fe and Ni lead to precipitation of Laves phase,however,the kinetics did not improve further because of their own excellent hydrogen *** increasing the content of Laves phase,there appear more pathways for hydrogen desorption so that the hydrides are more easily dissociated,which may provide new insights into how to achieve hydrogen desorption in BCC HEAs at room temperature.

Gladius is an accepted hard tissue for determining the age,size-specific growth,and trophic dynamics of pelagic ***,little is known about the inter-and intra-stock variability of gladius growth pattern and increment *** this study,the gladius growth patterns with somatic growth and gonad development were evaluated for two geographic stocks of the jumbo squid(Dosidicus gigas)in the tropical Pacific *** microstructure and periodicity of the gladius growth increments were also *** showed varied correlations between four gladius morphometric characteristics with dorsal mantle length,while growth in body weight almost followed a power *** gladius growth patterns occurred with gonad development,possibly due to different biological functions of these gladius parts and sex-specific energetic *** increments were observed formation in the stem and lateral plate and could be consistently *** daily periodicity of increment deposition,at least over 144 days old,was validated by comparing gladius increments with the ages obtained from the *** different oceanographic conditions between two areas likely influence the gladius growth and increment deposition and promote higher increment counts in squid from equatorial *** all,these results provided new information on gladius microstructures and growth increment in different stocks of *** and confirmed the use of this tissue for size-specific growth and age determination.

Considering the constantly increasing of data in large databases such as wire transfer database, incremental clustering algorithms play a more and more important role in Data Mining （DM）. However, Few of the traditional clustering algorithms can not only handle the categorical data, but also explain its output clearly. Based on the idea of dynamic clustering, an incremental conceptive clustering algorithm is proposed in this paper. Which introduces the Semantic Core Tree （SCT） to deal with large volume of categorical wire transfer data for the detecting money laundering. In addition, the rule generation algorithm is presented here to express the clustering result by the format of knowledge. When we apply this idea in financial data mining, the efficiency of searching the characters of money laundering data will be improved.
