Silicone-coated polyimide films deposited by surface dielectric barrier discharges

Hybrid dielectric barrier discharges are investigated for plasma generated on the surface of a dielectric layer, where two conducting electrodes of high voltage and ground are formulated on the upper and bottom surfaces. Using a flexible thin polyimide-film of a thickness ranging from 25 to 125 μm, a plasma is generated with a voltage of about 1 kV and a frequency of 40 ***, the surface of the dielectric layer was etched through a chemical reaction involving plasma oxygen radical species, and thus the polyimide films failed readily, resulting in dielectric breakdown within short operating time ranging from a few minutes to several tens of minutes,based on the film thicknesses of 25 μm and 125 μm, respectively. These plasma erosions were prevented by coating the polyimide surface with a 25 μm thick silicone paste. The siliconecoated film surface was then reinforced remarkably against plasma erosion as the organic polymer was vulnerable to chemical reaction of the plasma species, while the inorganic silicone exhibited a high chemical resistance against plasma erosion.

Adsorption of phosphate on magnetite-enriched particles (MEP) separated from the mill scale

Phosphate is a major pollutant in water, causing serious environmental and health consequences. In present study, the phosphate adsorption on novel magnetite-enriched particles (MEP) was comprehensively investigated. A new method and device were introduced for the separation of MEP from the mill scale at low magnetic intensity. Particles were characterized with different techniques such as XRD, XRF, SEM and EDS. The XRD and XRF analysis of MEP identified the dominant existence of crystalline magnetite. Furthermore, the morphological analysis of MEP confirmed the agglomerate porous morphology of magnetite. Oxygen and iron, the main constituents of magnetite were acknowledged during the elemental analysis using EDS. The phosphate adsorption on MEP is well explained using various isotherm and kinetic models, exhibiting the monolayer adsorption of phosphate on the surface of MEP. The maximum adsorption capacity was determined 6.41 mg/g. Based on particle size (45–75 and 75–150 μm) and empty bed contact time (1 and 2 h), four columns were operated for 54 days. MEP were appeared successful to remove all phosphate concentration from the column influent having 2 mg/L concentration. The operated column reactors were successfully regenerated with alkaline solution. The results indicated potential for practical application of the MEP for phosphate removal.

In recent times,the evolution of blockchain technology has got huge attention from the research community due to its versatile applications and unique security *** IoT has shown wide adoption in various applications including smart cities,healthcare,trade,business,*** these applications,fitness applications have been widely considered for smart fitness *** users of the fitness system are increasing at a high rate thus the gym providers are constantly extending the fitness ***,scheduling such a huge number of requests for fitness exercise is a big ***,the user fitness data is critical thus securing the user fitness data from unauthorized access is also *** overcome these issues,this work proposed a blockchain-based load-balanced task scheduling approach.A thorough analysis has been performed to investigate the applications of IoT in the fitness industry and various scheduling *** proposed scheduling approach aims to schedule the requests of the fitness users in a load-balanced way that maximize the acceptance rate of the users’requests and improve resource *** performance of the proposed task scheduling approach is compared with the state-of-the-art approaches concerning the average resource utilization and task rejection *** obtained results confirm the efficiency of the proposed scheduling *** investigating the performance of the blockchain,various experiments are performed using the Hyperledger Caliper concerning latency,throughput,resource *** Solo approach has shown an improvement of 32%and 26%in throughput as compared to Raft and Solo-Raft approaches *** obtained results assert that the proposed architecture is applicable for resource-constrained IoT applications and is extensible for different IoT applications.

The Internet of Things(IoT)has been widely adopted in various domains including smart cities,healthcare,smart factories,*** the last few years,the fitness industry has been reshaped by the introduction of smart fitness solutions for individuals as well as fitness *** IoT fitness devices collect trainee data that is being used for various ***,it will face numerous security and privacy issues towards its *** work focuses on IoT security,especially DoS/DDoS *** this paper,we have proposed a novel blockchain-enabled protocol(BEP)that uses the notion of a self-exposing node(SEN)approach for securing fitness IoT *** blockchain and SDN architectures are employed to enhance IoT security by a highly preventive security monitoring,analysis and response *** proposed approach helps in detecting the DoS/DDoS attacks on the IoT fitness system and then mitigating the *** BEP is used for handling Blockchain-related activities and SEN could be a sensor or actuator node within the fitness IoT *** provides information about the inbound and outbound traffic to the BEP which is used to analyze the DoS/DDoS attacks on the fitness IoT *** SENcalculates the inbound and outbound traffic features’entropies and transmits them to the Blockchain in the form of transaction *** BEP picks the whole mined blocks’transactions and transfers them to the SDN controller *** controller node correlates the entropies data of SENs and decides about the DoS or DDoS ***,there are two decision points,one is SEN,and another is the *** evaluate the performance of our proposed system,several experiments are performed and results concerning the entropy values and attack detection rate are *** proposed approach has outperformed the other two approaches concerning the attack detection rate by an increase of 11%and 18%against Approach 1 and Approach 2 respectively.

Expression Analysis of Proline Metabolism-related Genes From Halophyte Arabis stelleri under Osmotic Stress Conditions

Arabis stelleri var. japonica evidenced stronger osmotic stress tolerance than Arabidopsis thaliana. Using an A. thaliana microarray chip, we determined changes in the expression of approximately 2 800 genes between A. stelleri plants treated with 0.2 M mannitol versus mock-treated plants. The most significant changes in the gene expression patterns were in genes defining cellular components or in genes associated with the endomembrane system, stimulus response, stress response, chemical stimulus response, and defense response. The expression patterns of three de novo proline biosynthesis enzymes were evaluated in A. stelleri var. japonica seedlings treated with 0.2 M mannitol, 0.2 M sorbitol, and 0.2 M NaCI. The expression of At-pyrroline-5-carboxylate synthetase was not affected by NaCI stress but was similarly induced by mannitol and sorbitol. The proline dehydrogenase gene, which is known to be repressed by dehydration stress and induced by free L-proline, was induced at an early stage by mannitol treatment, but the level of proline dehydrogenase was increased later by treatment with both mannitol and NaCI. The level of free L-proline accumulation increased progressively in response to treatments with mannitol, sorbitol, and NaCI. Mannitol induced L-proline accumulation more rapidly than NaCI or sorbitol. These findings demonstrate that the osmotic tolerance of the novel halophyte, Arabis stelleri, is associated with the accumulation of L-proline.
