BACKGROUND Intratendious ganglions are rare lesions, especially on the foot and ankle. Although several studies have presented the intratendinous ganglion of the foot and ankle, there are only few reported cases, and no cases of recurrence or secondary surgery have been *** SUMMARY We present the case of a 32-year-old man with an intratendinous ganglion of the second extensor digitorum brevis(EDB) tendon that recurred after ganglion excision. Magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) performed before the first surgery was reviewed to analyze the causes of the recurrence. We confirmed that there was a lack of satellite detection. After recurrence, MRI revealed an extratendinous lesion, tenosynovitis, and intratendinous ganglion of the second EDB tendon. Since the second EDB tendon can compensate for the extrinsic muscle, en bloc resection was performed alone. In addition, meticulous excision and synovectomy were performed for extra-tendinous lesions and tenosynovitis, respectively. The patient returned to daily life without any functional problems or *** If removal of the affected tendon is not fatal, en bloc resection should first be considered to prevent incomplete excision and intraoperative leakage. When planning surgical excision, it is necessary to evaluate the presence of satellite lesions along the course of the affected tendon.

Despite the economy of material cost and excellent toughness of Cu-based amorphous alloys,especially CusoZrso,their poor corrosion resistance to a chloride medium limits their widespread *** this study,corrosion tests were performed on the CusoZrso amorphous alloy with different degrees of short-range order,which were prepared by annealing below the glass transition temperature（Tg）.It was found that the corrosion resistance of amorphous alloys is improved to a significant level when the alloys were heated below *** studies showed that thermally activated relaxation process of created disorder,which occurs during sub-Tg annealing,is responsible for the improvement in the corrosion *** dynamics simulations performed on the Cu-Zr amorphous alloys demonstrated that the relaxation process of the alloys is associated with the formation of energetically stable icosahedra and icosahedron-like *** study highlights the effects of sub-Tg annealing on the improvement in the corrosion resistance of the amorphous alloys from the viewpoint the relaxation process of the short-range orders.

BACKGROUND The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2(SARS-CoV-2) has been found to be responsible for the recent global pandemic known as coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19). SARS-CoV-2 infections not only result in significant respiratory symptoms but also cause several extrapulmonary manifestations, such as thrombotic complications, myocardial dysfunction and arrhythmia, thyroid dysfunction, acute kidney injury, gastrointestinal symptoms, neurological symptoms, ocular symptoms, and dermatological complications. We present the first documented case of thyroid storm in a pregnant woman precipitated by *** SUMMARY A 42-year-old multiparous woman at 35 + 2 wk of gestation visited the emergency room(ER) with altered mentation, seizures, tachycardia, and high fever. The patient showed no remarkable events in the prenatal examination, and the nasopharyngeal COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction(PCR) test was positive two days before the ER visit. The results of laboratory tests, such as liver function test,serum electrolytes, blood glucose, blood urea nitrogen, and creatinine, were all within the normal ranges. However, the thyroid function test showed hyperthyroidism, and the nasopharyngeal COVID-19 PCR test was positive, as expected. No specific findings were observed on the brain computed tomography,and there were no signs of lateralization on neurological examination. Fetal heartbeat and movement were good, and there were no significant uterine contractions. The initial impression was atypical eclampsia. However, the patient’s condition worsened, and a cesarean section was performed under general anesthesia;a healthy boy was delivered, and 12 h after delivery, the patient’s seizures disappeared and consciousness was restored. The patient was referred to an endocrinologist for hyperthyroidism, and a thyroid storm with Graves’ disease was diagnosed. Herein, we attempted to engineer oxygen vacancies on the surface of LaCoO_(3) perovskite through simple post-treatments(acid or reductive thermal treatments). Acid treatment induces oxygen vacancies through the selective etching of the La cations, whereas thermal treatment in a reducing atmosphere generates oxygen vacancies by directly removing lattice oxygen. The characterization results confirm that the number of surface oxygen vacancies, which are crucial in various catalytic oxidation reactions,considerably increases in the LaCoO_(3) catalysts treated with acid or reducing gas. Acid treatment enriches the oxygen vacancies while maintaining the structure of the LaCoO_(3) catalysts, which can not be achieved through reductive thermal treatment. Therefore, the acid treatment is considered a promising technique for oxygen vacancy engineering of perovskite catalysts for tuning their catalytic activities. Furthermore,the catalytic activities of the posttreated LaCoO_(3) catalysts for CO oxidation were evaluated and are noted to be considerably better than those of the pristine LaCoO_(3) catalyst due to their abundant oxygen vacancies. Consequently, we conclude that the oxygen vacancies of perovskite catalysts can be effectively engineered via two simple methods and play a significant role in CO oxidation.

Radiotherapy techniques have substantially improved in the last two decades. After the introduction of 3-dimensional conformal radiotherapy, radiotherapy has been increasingly used for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). Currently, more advanced techniques, including intensity-modulated radiotherapy(IMRT), stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy(SABR), and charged particle therapy, are used for the treatment of HCC. IMRT can escalate the tumor dose while sparing the normal tissue even though the tumor is large or located near critical organs. SABR can deliver a very high radiation dose to small HCCs in a few fractions, leading to high local control rates of 84%-100%. Various advanced imaging modalities are used for radiotherapy planning and delivery to improve the precision of radiotherapy. These advanced techniques enable the delivery of high dose radiotherapy for early to advanced HCCs without increasing the radiation-induced toxicities. However, as there have been no effective tools for the prediction of the response to radiotherapy or recurrences within or outside the radiation field, future studies should focus on selecting the patients who will benefit from radiotherapy.

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related death, as few patients can be treated with currently available curative local modalities. In patients with HCC where curative modalities are not feasible, radiation therapy(RT) has emerged as an alternative or combination therapy. With the development of various technologies, RT has been increasingly used for the management of HCC. Among these advances, proton beam therapy(PBT) has several unique physical properties that give it a finite range in a distal direction, and thus no exit dose along the beam path. Therefore, PBT has dosimetric advantages compared with X-ray therapy for the treatment of HCC. Indeed, various reports in the literature have described the favorable clinical outcomes and improved safety of PBT for HCC patients compared with X-ray therapy. However, there are some technical issues regarding the use of PBT in HCC, including uncertainty of organ motion and inaccuracy during calculation of tissue density and beam range, all of which may reduce the robustness of a PBT treatment plan. In this review, we discuss the physical properties, current clinical data, technical issues, and future perspectives on PBT for the treatment of HCC.

Collecting microscale water droplets suspended in the wind,that is,fog,using permeable surfaces is a promising solution to the worldwide problem of water scarcity and is of great interest to industries,such as mist elimination and recapturing water in cooling *** the past few decades,this topic has attracted a drastically increasing number of researchers across a wide range of ***,many aspects remain unclear,such as the definition and process of fog collection,fog collection determined from the perspectives of both the fog capture process and the liquid transport process,and how surface characteristics affect fog collection *** this review,we introduce and discuss fog collection from the perspectives of aerodynamics-governed fog-capturing processes and interfacial-phenomena-determined liquid transport ***,an emphasis is given to the design and engineering of permeable surfaces at different length scales to optimize the fog collection performance,including the dimension,morphology,and arrangement of wires at the millimetric scale,unidirectional spreading,and Laplace pressure gradient induced by asymmetric surface geometry and nano-/*** last,a brief outlook of future research directions is provided.
