To gain high efficiency and low fuel consumption, aluminum-based abradable seal coatings had been widely used in the compressor casing of aero engines or gas turbines owing to the low elastic modulus. However, the adhesive transfer phenomenon frequently occurs when the radial rubbing generates between titanium alloy blade tips and aluminum-based coating. It tends to increase scratch force and results in blades vibration and even engine jam. To eliminate this problem, a new lightweight epoxy-based abradable seal coating with high bonding strength was developed by an effective and porosity controllable mixing process that distributes spherical pores uniformly in the continuous matrix. A lightweight coating of 63% porosity with a hardness of 33.1(HR15 Y) can be reached when the content of hollow microspheres is 31 wt.%. The coating density is 0.5 g/cm3 and the bonding strength is as high as 18 MPa.The performance of the epoxy-based coating is comprehensively better than aluminum-based coatings in five essential indices. This study is expected to provide a new technical path for obtaining high-quality abradable seal coatings to guarantee the efficient and safe operation of compressors.

Objective:To explore the mechanisms underlying the proliferative inhibition of Chinese herbal medicine Kang-Ai injection(KAI)in gastric cancer cells.Methods:Gastric cancer cell lines MGC803 and BGC823 were treated by 0,0.3%,1%,3%and 10%KAI for 24,48 and 72 h,respectively.The cell proliferation was evaluated by 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl)-2,5-diphenyl-2-H-tetrazolium bromide(MTT)assay.The apoptosis and cell cycle were evaluated by flow cytometry.Interleukin(IL)-6 mRNA and protein expression levels were detected by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qRT-PCR)and enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay(ELISA),respectively.The protein expression levels of cyclin A,cyclin E,cyclin B1,cyclin D1,p21,retinoblastoma(RB),protein kinase B(AKT),extracellular regulated protein kinases(ERK),signal transducer and activator of transcription(STAT)1 and STAT3 were detected by Western blot.Results:KAI inhibited the proliferation of MGC803 and BGC823 gastric cancer cells in dose-and time-dependent manner.After treated with KAI for 48 h,the proportion of G,phase was increased,expression level of cyclin D1 and phosphorylation-RB were down-regulated,whereas the expression of p21 was up-regulated(all P<0.01).Furthermore,48-h treatment with KAI decreased the phosphorylation level of STAT3,inhibited the mRNA and protein expressions of IL-6(all P<0.01).IL-6 at dose of 10 ng/mL significantly attenuated the proliferative effect of both 3%and 10%KAI,and recovered KAI-inhibited STAT3 phosphorylation and cyclin D1 expression level(all P<0.01).Conclusion:KAI exerted an anti-proliferative function by inhibiting IL-6/STAT3 signaling pathway followed by the induction of G_(1)phase arrest in gastric cancer cells.

Unnatural amino acids(UAAs)are important building blocks in organic synthesis and drug discovery.They are also frequently integrated into peptides or proteins for biological studies.However,the direct and simplified synthesis of UAAs remains a great challenge.At the same time,vast known peptide modifications are based on carbon-heteroatom bonds.There are no general methods for peptide modifications via the construction of C–C bonds.To address this challenge,herein we propose the LADA strategy,which is composed of two steps:the selective labeling and activation of cysteine residues,the desulfurization to generate carbon-centered radical and the radical addition to alkenes to build C–C bond.This one-pot protocol has obvious advantages such as good functional group tolerance,biocompatible reaction conditions,and retained stereochemistry.This strategy was successfully utilized for the synthesis of unnatural amino acids and direct modifications of peptides.

The subfamily Megophryinae,as a representative batrachian group of the Oriental Realm and one of the most diverse groups of amphibians,has attracted considerable attention due to continued conjecture regarding its generic classification and failure to reach a satisfactory consensus.China boasts the richest diversity of Asian horned toads,containing some two thirds of the total species cataloged.However,most species have a complicated taxonomic history,resulting in multiple misidentifications.As such,an overall clarification of historical records and regional checklists is required.In the current investigation,we established the phylogeny of the Asian horned toads and performed detailed examinations with redefinitions of several important morphological traits.Based on the phylogenetic relationships and morphological differences,we propose a new ten-genus classification for the Asian horned toad subfamily Megophryinae:i.e.,Brachytarsophrys,Atympanophrys,Grillitschia,Sarawakiphrys gen.nov.,Jingophrys gen.nov.,Xenophrys,Megophrys,Pelobatrachus,Ophryophryne,and Boulenophrys.Revisions on the diagnosability,distribution,and content of each genus are provided.Furthermore,we present a careful review of the taxonomic history of Asian horned toad species from China and provide a monograph of congeners,including six species of Brachytarsophrys,four species of Atympanophrys,five species of Jingophrys gen.nov.,10 species of Xenophrys,two species of Ophryophryne,and 60 species of Boulenophrys.Finally,we discuss the importance of traditional morphological traits based on multiple populations in taxonomic work as well as taxonomic inflation caused by the genetic species delimitation.

Comparisons of Supine Roll Test and Alternative Positional Tests in HC-BPPV Lateralization

Objective The purpose of the study was to evaluate the efficiency of the supine roll test(SRT)and alternative positional tests(APTs)including the bow and lean test(BLT),pseudo-spontaneous nystagmus(PSN),and lying down nystagmus(LDN)to identify the affected side in horizontal canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo(HC-BPPV).Methods In our prospective study,we performed a testing profile(PSN,BLT,LDN,SRT)on 59 HC-BPPV patients using videonystagmography.We compared the accuracy and sensitivity of these tests in HC-BPPV lateralization.Data from 30 healthy patients were collected as the control group.Results When performing positional tests,the elicited nystagmus coinciding with Ewald’s second law was defined as a“positive response”.In 44 patients with geotropic nystagmus,the rates of positive response in LDN,PSN,and BLT were 22/44(50%),19/44(43%),and 18/44(41%),respectively,while in 15 patients with apogeotropic nystagmus,the positive response rates of these three tests were 10/15(66.7%),9/15(60%),and 4/15(27.00%),respectively.The sensitivity of LDN(54.38%)was higher than that of PSN(47.37%)and BLT(38.60%)but lower than that of SRT(89.47%).Notably,the accuracy rate of PSN(71.8%)was higher than that of the other APTs.In 6 patients with symmetrical nysgtamus during the roll test,5 patients showed a positive response in both LDN and BLT(83.34%),whereas 4 patients showed a positive response in PSN(66.67%).Conclusion All positional tests are helpful for determining the affected side of HC-BPPV,but SRT carries the highest accuracy of lateralization followed by PSN.

Mutation Induced Structural Variation in Membrane Proteins

Point mutations on membrane proteins may lead to small structural variations. Prediction of such struc- tural variations can help to further understand the related bio-activities of membrane proteins. We constructed fifteen hybrid energy functions on the basis of Chemistry at Harvard Macromolecular Mechanics（CHARMM） force field, hydrogen bonding potential and distance-scaled, finite ideal-gas reference（DFIRE）-like statistical energies, and eva- luated their performance on a representative dataset of homologous membrane proteins via a newly developed all-atom replica exchange Monte Carlo algorithm. The energy function composed of CHARMM and hydrogen bonding potential has the best performance, and the original DFIRE potential shows much better performance than the DFIRE-Iike potentials constructed from membrane proteins. We can conclude that more membrane protein struc- tures with high resolution are necessary for the construction of robust prediction method of mutation induced mem- brane protein structure variations.

Bacillus cereus X5 Enhanced Bio-Organic Fertilizers Effectively Control Root-Knot Nematodes(Meloidogyne sp.)

The efficacy of Bacillus cereus X5 as a potential biological control agent against root-knot nematodes was evaluated in vitro by examining second-stage juvenile mortality and egg hatching rate under addition of culture filtrate and in planta by application of bio-organic fertilizers enhanced with B. cereus X5, B. thuringiensis BTG, or Trichoderma harzianum SQR-T037 alone or together in greenhouse and field experiments. The biofumigation of the root-knot nematode-infested soil with organic materials (chicken manure, pig manure and rice straw) alone or in combination with B. cereus X5 was also conducted in greenhouse experiments. In laboratory, the filtrate of B. cereus X5 more effectively reduced egg hatching rates during the incubation period for 14 d and more effectively killed the second-stage juvenile during the incubation period of 24 h than that of B. thuringiensis BTG. The highest dry shoot weights for greenhouse tomatoes and field muskmelons were found in both the treatment consisting of the bio-organic fertilizer enhanced with the three biocontrol agents and the treatment consisting of the bio-organic fertilizer enhanced only with B. cereus X5. The two bio-organic fertilizers achieved better nematicidal effects than those enhanced only with B. thuringiensis BTG or T. harzianum SQR-T037. B. cereus X5 also enhanced effect of biofumigation, which resulted in increased plant biomass and reduced nematode counts in the roots and rhizosphere soil. Therefore, these results suggested that biological control of root-knot nematodes both in greenhouses and fields could be effectively achieved by using B. cereus X5 and agricultural wastes.

AIM:To determine the optimal b value of diffusionweighted imaging for detecting active inflammation in Crohn's disease.METHODS:Thirty-one patients clinically diagnosed with active Crohn’s disease were referred for magnetic resonance examination.All patients were scanned on a3.0T magnetic resonance scanner using the same protocol involving four different b values(800,1500,2000and 2500 s/mm2).The diagnostic effect of diffusionweighted imaging was evaluated and compared with endoscopic findings.The diffusion-weighted image quality of four b value groups was evaluated and apparent diffusion coefficient was measured for both nor-mal and inflammatory intestinal segments.RESULTS:The contrast-to-noise ratio and signal-tonoise ratio were not satisfied when b value 2000 or2500 s/mm2 was adopted(36.52±14.95 vs 34.78±24.83,P>0.05;53.58±23.45 vs 47.58±29.67,P>0.05).The qualitative image quality was not enough to meet diagnostic requirement.No matter which b value was chosen,the apparent diffusion coefficient of inflammatory intestinal segments was significantly lower than that of normal intestinal segments(1.38±0.28 vs 2.00±0.38,P<0.01;1.09±0.20 vs 1.50±0.28,P<0.01;0.95±0.19 vs 1.34±0.28,P<0.01;0.88±0.14 vs 1.20±0.21,P<0.01).The lesion detection rate(90.32%),diagnostic sensitivity(81.18%)and specificity(95.10%)would be appropriate when b value 1500 s/mm2 was adopted.CONCLUSION:High b value is suitable for intestinal DW examination on a high field MR scanner.
