Objective:To investigate the antifibrotic effects of Chrysanthemum indicum ethanol extract(CIEE)against activated hepatic stellate cells(HSC)and thioacetamide(TAA)-induced hepatofibrosis in ***:Cell viability and proliferation of HSC-T6 cells were measured using MTT *** HSCs were used to study ***(200 mg/kg)was used to induced hepatic fibrosis in ***(100 and 500 mg/kg)and silymarin(50 mg/kg)were administered *** functions including alanine transaminase,aspartate transaminase,glutathione,and hydroxyproline levels were measured using commercial *** sections and fibrotic biomarker expression were measured using hematoxylin and eosin staining and real-time polymerase chain ***:In vitro study revealed that CIEE(0.1,0.25,and 0.5 mg/mL)inhibited the proliferation of activated HSCs exposed to transforming growth factor(TGF)-β and restored the activated primary HSC *** in vivo studies,TAA-induced increase in liver/body weight ratio(5.46±0.26)was significantly reduced(4.13±0.22)by CIEE(P<0.05 at 500 mg/kg).CIEE(100 and 500 mg/kg)improved the liver functions by significantly attenuating changes in alanine transaminase,aspartate transaminase,glutathione,and hydroxyproline levels(P<0.05).Further,CIEE(100 and 500 mg/kg)ameliorated the histological changes in liver tissue and TGF-β expression significantly(P<0.05)in TAA-induced ***:CIEE significantly protects against TAA-induced liver damage in rats and can be used in the treatment of liver fibrosis.

Polystyrene nanoparticles pose significant toxicological risks to aquatic ecosystems, yet their impact on zebrafish(Danio rerio) embryonic development, particularly erythropoiesis, remains underexplored. This study used single-cell RNA sequencing to comprehensively evaluate the effects of polystyrene nanoparticle exposure on erythropoiesis in zebrafish embryos. In vivo validation experiments corroborated the transcriptomic findings,revealing that polystyrene nanoparticle exposure disrupted erythrocyte differentiation, as evidenced by the decrease in mature erythrocytes and concomitant increase in immature erythrocytes. Additionally, impaired heme synthesis further contributed to the diminished erythrocyte *** findings underscore the toxic effects of polystyrene nanoparticles on hematopoietic processes, highlighting their potential to compromise organismal health in aquatic environments.

Debris Flow in Metropolitan Area - 2011 Seoul Debris Flow

A large number of debris flows occurred simultaneously at around 8:30 to 8:50 *** July 27,2011,at the center of Seoul,*** area is located in the southern part of Seoul and is a densely populated *** a result of the debris flow event,16 people were killed,30 houses were buried,and 116 houses were damaged around Umyeon Mountain,a relatively small mountain with a height of 312.6 *** the debris flow event,field investigations on the initiation and transportation zones of debris flows have been carried *** data were collected from the automatic weather stations(AWSs) which are operated by the Korea Meteorological Administration(KMA).Video files recorded by residents were also acquired and used to analyze the flow characteristics of the debris *** investigation shows that about 40 debris flows occurred around Umyeon Mountain and most of the debris flows were initiated by small slope *** effects of the precipitation that triggered the debris flows were analyzed as well.A landslide hazard map which considers slope gradient and aspect,strength of soil,hazard record,rainfall conditions,and vegetation,was constructed and compared with the initiation zones of debris flows.

Reactive oxygen signaling regulates numerous biological processes,including stress responses in *** sensors transduce reactive oxygen signals into cellular ***,we present biochemical evidence that a plant quiescin sulfhydryl oxidase homolog(QSOX1)is a redox sensor that negatively regulates plant immunity against a bacterial *** expression level of QSOX1 is inversely correlated with pathogen-induced reactive oxygen species(ROS)***,QSOX1 both senses and regulates ROS levels by interactingn with and mediating redox regulation of S-nitrosoglutathione reductase,which,consistent with previous findings,influences reactive nitrogen-mediated regulation of ROS ***,our data indicate that QSOX1 is a redox sensorthat negatively regulates plant immunity by linking reactive oxygen and reactive nitrogen signaling to limit ROS production.

Classification of hepatobiliary scintigraphy patterns in segmented gallbladder according to anatomical discordance

BACKGROUND Hepatobiliary scintigraphy(HBS)is a useful diagnostic imaging technique that uses radiotracers to evaluate the function of the gallbladder(GB)and biliary *** segmented GB,some HBS images reveal a discordant GB boundary as compared to anatomical *** To evaluate the characteristics of HBS in segmented GB and determine the clinical relevance according to HBS *** A total of 268 patients with chronic cholecystitis,gallstones,or biliary colic symptoms who underwent HBS between 2011 and 2020 were *** GB was defined as segmental luminal narrowing of the GB body on computed tomography(CT)or magnetic resonance(MR)images,and HBS was examined 1 mo before or after CT or *** GB was classified into 3 types based on the filling and emptying patterns of the proximal and distal segments according to the characteristics of HBS images,and GB ejection fraction(GBEF)was identified:Type 1 was defined as a normal filling and emptying pattern;Type 2 was defined as an emptying defect on the distal segment;and Type 3 was defined as a filling defect in the distal *** Segmented GB accounted for 63 cases(23.5%),including 36 patients(57.1%)with Type 1,18 patients(28.6%)with Type 2,and 9 patients(14.3%)with Type 3 emptying ***,approximately 43%of HBS images showed a discordant pattern as compared to anatomical imaging of segmented *** there were no significant differences in clinical symptoms,rate of cholecystectomy,or pathological findings based on the type,most gallstones occurred in the distal *** GBEF was 62.50%±24.79%for Type 1,75.89%±17.21%for Type 2,and 88.56%±7.20%for Type *** 1 showed no difference in reported GBEF compared to the non-segmented GB group(62.50%±24.79%vs 67.40%±21.78%).In contrast,the reported GBEF was higher in Types 2 and 3 with defective emptying and filling when compared to Type 1(80.11%±15.70%vs 62.57%±24.79%;P=0.001).CONCLUSION In segmented GB,discordance i

Air in the main pancreatic duct:A case of innocent air

Air in the main pancreatic duct has been reported only rarely and might be associated with either a spontane- ous or a surgically induced alteration of the anatomy of the biliary tract. We report a case of ＂innocent＂ air found incidentally in the main pancreatic duct. To our knowledge, this is only the third such case reported. A 54-year-old woman presented with hemoptysis that had lasted for 3 d. She underwent a chest computed tomography scan, which revealed not only focal bron- chiectasis in the left lower lobe, but also air in the main pancreatic duct and dilatation of the common bile duct. She was managed conservatively for the hemop- blsis and no further problems developed. She had no specific gastrointestinal symptoms and had no history of surgery or medication. Her laboratory parameters were normal. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancrea- tography also demonstrated air in the main pancreatic duct and a dilated common bile duct （CBD）. Duode- noscopy revealed separate biliary and pancreatic ori-rices with patulous openings and some air bubbles ap- pearing in the pancreatic orifice. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography （ERCP） showed the dilated CBD and pancreatic duct with some air bubbles, but no other abnormal lesions. She was discharged with no further problems. Most patients with air in the main pancreatic duct have had a pancreatobiliary disease, or a history of pancreatobiliary disease, pancreatobiliary surgery or sphincterotomy. If the air is innocent, as in our case, ERCP should be performed to evaluate any altered sphincteric function or anatomy such as patu- Ious openings.
