Early-life stress alters sleep structure and the excitatory-inhibitory balance in the nucleus accumbens in aged mice

To the Editor:Schizophrenia is a progressive,debilitating disease.[1]Safe and effective treatment performed during the acute phase is the first step to improve prognosis,and it is critically *** is known as a dopamine system stabilizer,and it exerts partial agonism with high affinity at dopamine D2 and serotonin-1A(5-HT1A)receptors as well as antagonism at serotonin-2A(5-HT2A)receptors.[2]It has been shown to be efficacious in amelioration of both positive and negative symptoms of acute schizophrenia,and it shows better tolerance than most antipsychotics.[3]We conducted a real-world study to further confirm the efficacy and safety of aripiprazole in patients with acute episodes of schizophrenia in China and tried to explore the clinical variables,including various drug regimens,which may be correlated with the efficacy of aripiprazole,and provide a basis for the optimization of aripiprazole treatment for patients with acute schizophrenia.

Background： Optimizing treatment outcomes for depression requires understanding of how evidence-based treatments are utilized in clinical practice. Antipsychotic medications concurrent with antidepressant treatment are frequently used in major depression, but few studies have investigated trends and patterns of their use over time. This study aimed to examine the prescription patterns ofantipsychotic medications for major depression in China from 2002 to 2012 and their association with treatment satisfaction and quality of life （QOL）. Methods： A total of 3655 subjects with major depression treated in 45 Chinese psychiatric hospitals/centers nationwide were interviewed between 2002 and 2012. Patients＇ socio-demographic and clinical characteristics including psychopathology, medication side effects. satisfaction with treatment and QOL were recorded using a standardized protocol and data collection. Results： The frequency ofantipsychotic use was 24.9% in the whole sample; the corresponding figures were 17.1%, 20.3%, and 32.8% in 2002, 2006, and 2012, respectively （χ^2 = 90.3, df= 2, P 〈 0.001 ）. Multiple logistic regression analyses revealed that patients on concurrent antipsychotics had significantly more delusions or hallucinations, longer illness duration, greater side effects, and more likely to be treated as inpatients and in major hospitals （i.e., Level-Ⅲ hospital）. Antipsychotic use was associated with lower treatment satisfaction while there was no significant difference with respect to physical and mental QOL between the antipsychotic and nonantipsychotic groups. Conclusions： Concurrent antipsychotic use was found in about one in four treated depressed patients in China, which has increased over a 10-year period. Considering the association of drug-induced side effects and the lack of patients＇ and relatives＇ satisfaction with antipsychotic treatment, further examination of the rationale and appropriateness of the use of antipsychotics in depression is needed.

Analysis of Health-Related Quality of Life and Influencing Factors among Elderly Residents in Southwest China

Objective: The health-related quality of life (HRQoL) theory was used to assess the health quality of elderly residents in Southwest China. This was done by using the European Five-Dimensional Health Scale in a comprehensive manner and by analysing the factors influencing it. The findings will provide new perspectives and ideas for improving the health-related quality of life of the elderly population and enhancing the precise health management of elderly residents. Methods: The response data of 1892 elderly residents in southwestern China were included in the analysis based on the CLHLS data. The factors influencing the occurrence of problems, EQ-VAS scores and health utility values were analysed by logistic regression, multiple linear regression and Tobit regression, respectively. Results: The primary health concerns among the elderly population in the Southwest region were limited ability to perform daily activities and pain or discomfort. These individuals exhibited an EQ-VAS self-assessment score of 66.51 ± 14.87 and a health utility value of 0.87 (0.70, 1.00). Gender, age, regular medical check-ups, exercise habits and the prevalence of chronic diseases are the main influencing factors. Conclusions: The health quality of elderly people in Southwest China needs to be improved, and a comprehensive management strategy can be adopted in terms of lifestyle management, health needs management and disease management to improve the quality of their healthy lives and promote the development of healthy ageing.

It has been shown clinically that continuous removal of ischemia/reperfusion-induced reactive oxygen species is not conducive to the recovery of late ***,previous studies have shown that excessive increases in hypochlorous acid after stroke can cause severe damage to brain *** previous studies have found that a small amount of hypochlorous acid still exists in the later stage of stroke,but its specific role and mechanism are currently *** simulate stroke in vivo,a middle cerebral artery occlusion rat model was established,with an oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation model established in vitro to mimic *** found that in the early stage(within 24 hours)of ischemic stroke,neutrophils produced a large amount of hypochlorous acid,while in the recovery phase(10 days after stroke),microglia were activated and produced a small amount of hypochlorous ***,in acute stroke in rats,hypochlorous acid production was prevented using a hypochlorous acid scavenger,taurine,or myeloperoxidase inhibitor,4-aminobenzoic acid *** results showed that high levels of hypochlorous acid(200μM)induced neuronal apoptosis after oxygen/glucose deprivation/***,in the recovery phase of the middle cerebral artery occlusion model,a moderate level of hypochlorous acid promoted the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells into neurons and *** suggests that hypochlorous acid plays different roles at different phases of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion *** levels of hypochlorous acid(5 and 100μM)promoted nuclear translocation ofβ-*** transfection of single-site mutation plasmids,we found that hypochlorous acid induced chlorination of theβ-catenin tyrosine 30 residue,which promoted nuclear ***,our study indicates that maintaining low levels of hypochlorous acid plays a key role in the recovery of neurological function.

覆被差异影响土壤有机碳稳定性和固碳潜力.贵州草海是全球同纬度典型高原淡水湿地生态系统,以草海为研究对象,选取林地、耕地、草地、芦竹和滩涂这5种覆被的土壤,垂直分层采集0~20、20~40和40~60 cm的土壤样本,按照SOC的活性程度和稳定性分组,探究覆被差异对土壤有机碳组分和稳定性的影响,为草海土壤碳汇和生态保护提供基础数据.结果表明,覆被差异导致SOC含量在垂直尺度分布的差异性(P<0.05),水平尺度上各覆被中SOC含量与滩涂的(14.75 g·kg^(-1))对比,减少量分别为:19.32%(林地)、15.05%(芦竹)、12.47%(菜地)和1.58%(草地);碳组分中SAOC和LOC的含量分别占SOC总量的52.51%和45.00%.ω(ROC)(g·kg^(-1))依次为:7.89(林地)、7.47(滩涂)、6.67(芦竹)、6.36(菜地)和5.67(草地),影响ROC的主要理化因子为N/P和TN(r≥0.72).ROCI的变化区间为0.16~0.34,林地最大,菜地和草地相对较低,主要受N/P的影响(P<0.01),与BD负相关(P<0.05),覆被类型(P<0.001)和土层深度(P<0.01)均可影响土壤有机碳的稳定性,且二者交互作用于ROCI(P<0.01).研究表明覆被差异改变有机质的分解和积累,导致有机碳组分的差异分布,农事活动影响有机碳的稳定性和积累状态,草海不稳定碳组分SAOC和LOC含量较高,土壤固碳增汇潜力大.建议科学地人工调控使其向稳定态转化,提升区域ROCI水平和固碳潜力.
