Renewable conversion of coal gangue to 13-X molecular sieve for Cd^(2+)-containing wastewater adsorption performance

Using coal gangue(CG)as raw material,a new type of all solid-waste-based 13-X molecular sieve material was controllably prepared by alkali fusion-hydrothermal method.The synthetic molecular sieve was used as a solid adsorbent to treat Cd^(2+)-containing wastewater,and its adsorption behavior on Cd^(2+)in aqueous solution was studied and analyzed.The microstructure and morphology of the molecular sieve were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD),field emission scanning electron microscopy(FESEM)and specific surface area analyzer.The results show that the synthesized 13-X molecular sieve has higher Brunauer–Emmett–Teller(BET)specific surface area with higher crystallinity and higher adsorption capacity for the heavy metal Cd^(2+).The adsorption process of Cd^(2+)by molecular sieve conforms to the Langmuir isotherm adsorption equation and Lagergren pseudo-second-order rate equation.Combined with thermodynamic calculation,it can be concluded that the adsorption process is physically monolayer,spontaneous and exothermic.In this study,a low-cost and naturally available synthesis method of 13-X molecular sieve is reported.Combined with its adsorption mechanism for Cd^(2+),it provides a feasible and general method for removing heavy metal ions from coal gangue and also provides a new way for the utilization of coal gangue with high added value.

PTEN-induced putative kinase 1(PINK1),a mitochondrial kinase that phosphorylates Parkin and other proteins,plays a crucial role in mitophagy and protection against neurodegeneration.Mutations in PINK1 and Parkin can lead to loss of function and early onset Parkinson's disease.However,there is a lack of strong in vivo evidence in rodent models to support the theory that loss of PINK1 affects mitophagy and induces neurodegeneration.Additionally,PINK1 knockout pigs(Sus scrofa)do not appear to exhibit neurodegeneration.In our recent work involving non-human primates,we found that PINK1 is selectively expressed in primate brains,while absent in rodent brains.To extend this to other species,we used multiple antibodies to examine the expression of PINK1 in pig tissues.In contrast to tissues from cynomolgus monkeys(Macaca fascicularis),our data did not convincingly demonstrate detectable PINK1expression in pig tissues.Knockdown of PINK1 in cultured pig cells did not result in altered Parkin and BAD phosphorylation,as observed in cultured monkey cells.A comparison of monkey and pig striatum revealed more PINK1-phosphorylated substrates in the monkey brain.Consistently,PINK1 knockout in pigs did not lead to obvious changes in the phosphorylation of Parkin and BAD.These findings provide new evidence that PINK1expression is specific to primates,underscoring the importance of non-human primates in investigating PINK1function and pathology related to PINK1 deficiency.

A novel silver-doped nickel oxide hole-selective contact for crystalline silicon heterojunction solar cells

Based on its band alignment,p-type nickel oxide(NiO_(x))is an excellent candidate material for hole transport layers in crystalline silicon heterojunction solar cells,as it has a smallΔEV and largeΔEC with crystalline silicon.Herein,to overcome the poor hole selectivity of stoichiometric NiO_(x) due to its low carrier concentration and conductivity,silver-doped nickel oxide(NiO_(x):Ag)hole transport layers with high carrier concentrations were prepared by co-sputtering high-purity silver sheets and pure NiO_(x) targets.The improved electrical conductivity of NiO_(x) was attributed to the holes generated by the Ag^(+)substituents for Ni^(2+),and moreover,the introduction of Ag^(+)also increased the amount of Ni^(3+)present,both of which increased the carrier concentration in NiO_(x).Ag^(+)doping also reduced the c-Si/NiO_(x) contact resistivity and improved the hole-selective contact with NiO_(x).Furthermore,the problems of particle clusters and interfacial defects on the surfaces of NiO_(x):Ag films were solved by UV-ozone oxidation and high-temperature annealing,which facilitated separation and transport of carriers at the c-Si/NiO_(x) interface.The constructed c-Si/NiO_(x):Ag solar cell exhibited an increase in open-circuit voltage from 490 to 596 mV and achieved a conversion efficiency of 14.4%.

The rich phase behavior of block copolymers(BCPs)has drawn great attention in recent years.However,the double diamond(DD)phase is rarely obtained because of the competition between the minimization of interfacial energy and packing frustration.Here,a rod-coil BCP containing mesogen-jacketed liquid crystalline polymer is designed to acquire ordered bicontinuous network nanostructures.The reduction of internal energy originating from the orientational interaction among the rod blocks can compensate for the free energy penalty of packing frustration to stabilize the DD structure.The resulting BCP can also experience lamellae-to-DD and double gyroid-to-lamellae transitions by changing the annealing temperature.These results make the rod-coil BCP an excellent candidate for the self-assembly of ordered network structures,demonstrating great potential in nanopatterning and metamaterials.

Exploration of potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for trauma-related acute kidney injury

Purpose:Acute kidney injury(AKI)is one of the most common functional injuries observed in trauma patients.However,certain trauma medications may exacerbate renal injury.Therefore,the early detection of trauma-related AKI holds paramount importance in improving trauma prognosis.Methods:Qualified datasets were selected from public databases,and common differentially expressed genes related to trauma-induced AKI and hub genes were identified through enrichment analysis and the establishment of protein-protein interaction(PPI)networks.Additionally,the specificity of these hub genes was investigated using the sepsis dataset and conducted a comprehensive literature review to assess their plausibility.The raw data from both datasets were downloaded using R software(version 4.2.1)and processed with the"affy"package19 for correction and normalization.Results:Our analysis revealed 585 upregulated and 629 downregulated differentially expressed genes in the AKI dataset,along with 586 upregulated and 948 downregulated differentially expressed genes in the trauma dataset.Concurrently,the establishment of the PPI network and subsequent topological analysis highlighted key hub genes,including CD44,CD163,TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 1,cytochrome b-245 beta chain,versican,membrane spanning 4-domains A4A,mitogen-activated protein kinase 14,and early growth response 1.Notably,their receiver operating characteristic curves displayed areas exceeding 75%,indicating good diagnostic performance.Moreover,our findings postulated a unique molecular mechanism underlying trauma-related AKI.Conclusion:This study presents an alternative strategy for the early diagnosis and treatment of trauma-related AKI,based on the identification of potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets.Additionally,this study provides theoretical references for elucidating the mechanisms of trauma-related AKI.

Background Elevated platelet count(PLTc)is associated with first-episode schizophrenia and adverse outcomes in individuals with precursory psychosis.However,the impact of antipsychotic medications on PLTc and its association with symptom improvement remain unclear.Aims We aimed to investigate changes in PLTc levels following antipsychotic treatment and assess whether PLTc can predict antipsychotic responses and metabolic changes after accounting for other related variables.Methods A total of 2985 patients with schizophrenia were randomised into seven groups.Each group received one of seven antipsychotic treatments and was assessed at 2,4 and 6 weeks.Clinical symptoms were evaluated using the positive and negative syndrome scale(PANSS).Additionally,we measured blood cell counts and metabolic parameters,such as blood lipids.Repeated measures analysis of variance was used to examine the effect of antipsychotics on PLTc changes,while structural equation modelling was used to assess the predictive value of PLTc on PANSS changes.Results PLTc significantly increased in patients treated with aripiprazole(F=6.00,p=0.003),ziprasidone(F=7.10,p<0.001)and haloperidol(F=3.59,p=0.029).It exhibited a positive association with white blood cell count and metabolic indicators.Higher baseline PLTc was observed in non-responders,particularly in those defined by the PANSS-negative subscale.In the structural equation model,PLTc,white blood cell count and a latent metabolic variable predicted the rate of change in the PANSS-negative subscale scores.Moreover,higher baseline PLTc was observed in individuals with less metabolic change,although this association was no longer significant after accounting for baseline metabolic values.Conclusions Platelet parameters,specifically PLTc,are influenced by antipsychotic treatment and could potentially elevate the risk of venous thromboembolism in patients with schizophrenia.Elevated PLTc levels and associated factors may impede symptom improvement by promoting inflammation.Given PLTc’s easy measur

Genetically predicted fatty liver disease and risk of psychiatric disorders: A mendelian randomization study

BACKGROUND Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)and alcohol-related liver disease(Ar-LD)constitute the primary forms of chronic liver disease,and their incidence is progressively increasing with changes in lifestyle habits.Earlier studies have do-cumented a correlation between the occurrence and development of prevalent mental disorders and fatty liver.AIM To investigate the correlation between fatty liver and mental disorders,thus ne-cessitating the implementation of a mendelian randomization(MR)study to elu-cidate this association.METHODS Data on NAFLD and ArLD were retrieved from the genome-wide association studies catalog,while information on mental disorders,including Alzheimer's disease,schizophrenia,anxiety disorder,attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD),bipolar disorder,major depressive disorder,multiple personality dis-order,obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD),post-traumatic stress disorder(PTSD),and schizophrenia was acquired from the psychiatric genomics consor-tium.A two-sample MR method was applied to investigate mediators in signifi-cant associations.RESULTS After excluding weak instrumental variables,a causal relationship was identified between fatty liver disease and the occurrence and development of some psychia-tric disorders.Specifically,the findings indicated that ArLD was associated with a significantly elevated risk of developing ADHD(OR:5.81,95%CI:5.59-6.03,P<0.01),bipolar disorder(OR:5.73,95%CI:5.42-6.05,P=0.03),OCD(OR:6.42,95%CI:5.60-7.36,P<0.01),and PTSD(OR:5.66,95%CI:5.33-6.01,P<0.01).Meanwhile,NAFLD significantly increased the risk of developing bipolar disorder(OR:55.08,95%CI:3.59-845.51,P<0.01),OCD(OR:61.50,95%CI:6.69-565.45,P<0.01),and PTSD(OR:52.09,95%CI:4.24-639.32,P<0.01).CONCLUSION Associations were found between genetic predisposition to fatty liver disease and an increased risk of a broad range of psychiatric disorders,namely bipolar disorder,OCD,and PTSD,highlighting the significance of preven-tive measures against psychiatric disorders in patients with fatty liver

A novel Ce_(0.485)Zr_(0.485)Y_(0.03)O_(2) composite oxide with surface doping of Y and its application in Pd-only three-way catalyst

The ceria-zirconia compound oxide-supported noble metal Pd(Pd@CZ)is widely used in three-way catalyst.Moreover,the surface structure of CZ plays an important role in catalytic activity of Pd.However,how to regulate the surface structure of CZ and clarify the structure–activity relationship is still a challenge.In this paper,a strategy is proposed to develop high activity Pd@CZ nanocatalysts by tuning Y doping sites in CZ.The precipitate-deposition method is developed to prepare the novel Ce_(0.485)Zr_(0.485)Y_(0.03)O_(2) composite with surface doping of Y(CZ-Y-S).In addition,the Pd@CZ-Y-S(Pd supported on CZ-Y-S)exhibits superior catalytic activity for HC,CO,and NO oxide,wherein,for CO and C_(3)H_(6) oxidation,the low-temperature activity of Pd@CZ-Y-S is still 20%higher than that of Pd@CZ-Y-B(Y bulk doping)and commercial Pd@CZ after 1000℃/4 h aging.The effect mechanism is further studied by density functional theory(DFT)calculation.Compared with Pd@CZ-Y-B,Pd@CZ-Y-S shows the lower CO oxide reaction energy barriers due to the weaker adsorption strength of O2.The Y surface doping strategy could provide valuable insights for the development of highly efficient Pd@CZ catalyst with extensive applications.

Background:Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is associated with disordered lipid and iron metabolism.Our previous study has substantiated the pivotal role of Caveolin-1(Cav-1)in protecting hepatocytes and mediating iron metabolism in the liver.This study aimed to explore the specific mechanisms underlying the regulation of iron metabolism by Cav-1 in NAFLD.Methods:Hepatocyte-specific Cav-1 overexpression mice and knockout mice were used in this study.Cav-1-knockdown of RAW264.7 cells and mouse primary hepatocytes were performed to verify the changes in vitro.Moreover,a high-fat diet and palmitic acid plus oleic acid treatment were utilized to construct a NAFLD model in vivo and in vitro,respectively,while a high-iron diet was used to construct an in vivo iron overload model.Besides,iron concentration,the expression of Cav-1 and iron metabolism-related proteins in liver tissue or serum were detected using iron assay kit,Prussian blue staining,Western blotting,immunofluorescence staining,immunohistochemical staining and ELISA.The related indicators of lipid metabolism and oxidative stress were evaluated by the corresponding reagent kit and staining.Results:Significant disorder of lipid and iron metabolism occurred in NAFLD.The expression of Cav-1 was decreased in NAFLD hepatocytes(P<0.05),accompanied by iron metabolism disorder.Cav-1 enhanced the iron storage capacity of hepatocytes by activating the ferritin light chain/ferritin heavy chain pathway in NAFLD,subsequently alleviating the oxidative stress induced by excess ferrous ions in the liver.Further,CD68^(+) CD163^(+) macrophages expressing Cav-1 were found to accelerate iron accumulation in the liver,which was contrary to the effect of Cav-1 in hepatocytes.Positive correlations were also observed between the serum Cav-1 concentration and the serum iron-related protein levels in NAFLD patients and healthy volunteers(P<0.05).Conclusions:These findings confirm that Cav-1 is an essential target protein that regulates iron and lipid metabolic homeostasis.It i

Chromosome-level genome assembly of the Asian citrus psyllid,Diaphorina citri

Diaphorina citri is a global citrus pest.As a vector insect,it can transmit the causative agents of citrus huanglongbing,causing irreversible losses to the citrus industry.The acquisition of genomic information can provide a molecular genetic basis for effective control of D.citri.Here,the DNBSEQ™,Oxford Nanopore Technologies,and Hi-C technologies are applied to generate a high-quality chromosome-level genome of D.citri.The genome size of D.citri was 523.78 Mb with a scaffold N50 of 47.05 Mb distributed on 13 chromosomes.A total of 250.64 Mb(47.85%)repeat sequences and 24048 protein-coding genes were predicted.Genome resequencing of female and male individuals indicated that the sex chromosome system of D.citri is XO.Phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that D.citri and Pachypsylla venusta,which separated from their most recent common ancestor about 336.62 million years ago,were the most closely related.Additionally,we identified genes potentially involved in detoxification metabolism,pathogen transmission,and honeydew secretion for further investigation.The high-quality genome provides an important reference for developing effective management strategies of D.citri.
