Prediction of effluent concentration in a wastewater treatment plant using machine learning models

Of growing amount of food waste, the integrated food waste and waste water treatment was regarded as one of the efficient modeling method. However, the load of food waste to the conventional waste treatment process might lead to the high concentration of total nitrogen（T-N） impact on the effluent water quality. The objective of this study is to establish two machine learning models-artificial neural networks（ANNs） and support vector machines（SVMs）, in order to predict 1-day interval T-N concentration of effluent from a wastewater treatment plant in Ulsan, Korea. Daily water quality data and meteorological data were used and the performance of both models was evaluated in terms of the coefficient of determination（R^2）, Nash-Sutcliff efficiency（NSE）, relative efficiency criteria（d rel）. Additionally, Latin-Hypercube one-factor-at-a-time（LH-OAT） and a pattern search algorithm were applied to sensitivity analysis and model parameter optimization, respectively. Results showed that both models could be effectively applied to the 1-day interval prediction of T-N concentration of effluent. SVM model showed a higher prediction accuracy in the training stage and similar result in the validation ***, the sensitivity analysis demonstrated that the ANN model was a superior model for 1-day interval T-N concentration prediction in terms of the cause-and-effect relationship between T-N concentration and modeling input values to integrated food waste and waste water treatment. This study suggested the efficient and robust nonlinear time-series modeling method for an early prediction of the water quality of integrated food waste and waste water treatment process.

RabGTPase is a member of the Ras superfamily of small GTPases, which share a GTP-binding pocket containing highly conserved motifs that promote GTP hydrolysis. In Arabidopsis, the RabA group, which corresponds to the Rabgroup in animals, functions in the recycling of endosomes that control docking and fusion during vesicle transport. However, their molecular mechanisms remain unknown. In this study, we determined the crystal structures of the GDP-bound inactive form and both GppNHp-and GTP-bound active forms of RabA1a, at resolutions of 2.8, 2.6, and 2.6 A?,respectively. A bound sulfate ion in the active site of the GDP-bound structure stabilized Switch Ⅱ by bridging the interaction between a magnesium ion and *** of the two states of RabA1a with Rabproteins revealed clear differences in the Switch Ⅰ and Ⅱ loops. These results suggested that conformational change of the Switch regions of RabA1a, derived by GTP or GDP binding, could maintain subcellular membrane traffic through the specific interaction of effector molecules.

With the advent of modern techniques, drugs, and monitoring, general anesthesia has come to be considered an unlikely cause of harm, particularly for healthy patients. While this is largely true, newly emerging clinical and laboratory studies have sug- gested that exposure to anesthetic agents during early childhood may have long-lasting adverse effects on cognitive function. This concern has been the focus of intense study in the field of anesthesia research. A recent high-profile review by Rappaport et al. （2015） concluded that while many questions remain un- answered, there is strong evidence from laboratory studies that commonly used anesthetics interfere with brain development and that clinical studies suggest a correlation between early childhood exposure to these agents and subsequent effects on learning and cognition. The issue is of sufficient public health importance that a public-private partnership known as Smar- Tots （Strategies for Mitigating Anesthesia-Related Neurotoxicity in Tots） was developed by the FDA to study pediatric anesthetic neurotoxicity. The mechanism of injury underlying this phe- nomenon has yet to be fully elucidated, and there is evidence to suggest that anesthetics may have direct cytotoxic effects on neurons leading to cell death or suppressed neurogenesis （Strat- mann et al., 2010） and that they may interfere with key pro- cesses in neuronal growth and development that underlie brain circuit development （Wagner et al., 2014）.

Glyceryl monooleate(GMO)is a polar lipid that can exist in various liquid crystalline phases in the presence of different amounts of *** is regarded as a permeation enhancer due to its amphiphilic *** phases of GMO/solvent system containing sodium fluorescein were prepared to compare permeability using confocal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM).GMO was melted in a vial in a water bath heated to 45℃.Propylene glycol and hexanediol were homogeneously dissolved in the melted *** fluorescein in aqueous solution was diluted to various ratios and thoroughly mixed by an ultrasonic *** GMO/Solvent system with fluorescein was applied onto the epidermal side of excised pig skin and incubated *** was performed to observe how the GMO/solvent system in its different phases affect skin *** and lamellar phase formulations enhanced the fluorescein permeation through the stratum corneum.A solution system had the weakest permeability compared to the other two *** to the amphiphilic nature of GMO,cubic and lamellar phases might reduce the barrier function of stratum corneum which was observed by CLSM as fluorescein accumulated in the *** on the results,the glyceryl monooleate lyotropic mixtures could be applied to enhance skin permeation in various topical and transdermal formulations.

BACKGROUND Thermal injuries on free transferred or replanted tissues resulting from loss of sensibility are an infrequent *** require immediate and appropriate management before they progress to an irreversible *** negative pressure wound therapy(NPWT)can prevent wound progression by increasing microcirculation,the inappropriate application of NPWT on complicationthreatened transferred and replanted tissues can induce an adverse *** SUMMARY A 48-year-old woman who underwent immediate breast reconstruction with a deep inferior epigastric artery perforator free *** applying a heating pad directly to the flap site,she sustained a deep second to third-degree contact burn over 30%of the transferred flap on postoperative 7 *** the necrotic changes had progressed,we applied an NPWT dressing over the burned area after en-bloc debridement of the transferred tissues on postoperative 21 *** 4 d of NPWT application,the exposed fatty tissues of the flap changed to dry and browncolored necrotic *** further debridement,we noted that the wound gradually reached total necrosis with a collapsed vascular pedicle of deep inferior epigastric *** Although NPWT has been shown to be successful for treating various wound types,the significant risk of NPWT application in short-lasting reconstructed flap wounds after thermal injury should be reminded.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy of horse oil on lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-induced inflammation in human ***: Western blot analysis was performed to measure the expression of cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) and IκBα. ELISA was used to analyze prostaglandin E2(PGE2) ***: Horse oil decreased LPS-induced COX-2 and PGE2 levels in a dose-dependent manner. Nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB) plays a key role in the expression of inflammatory cytokines and mediators. Therefore, we investigated the influence of horse oil on the NF-κB signaling pathways. Horse oil inhibited translocation of NF-κB from the cytosol to the nucleus. Furthermore, LPS-induced degradation of IκBα was recovered by horse oil. The activation of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK) reportedly induces degradation of IκBα In agreement with this, LPS activated p38 MAPK and caused IκBα degradation. Conversely, horse oil inhibited LPS-induced p38 MAPK activation and IκBαdegradation. In addition, a specific p38 MAPK inhibitor, SB203580, blocked IκBα ***: Horse oil decreased COX-2 and PGE2 by inhibiting p38 MAPK activation, IκBα degradation, and the translocation of NF-κB.

Mesenchymal stem cells have been previously shown to exert an immunomodulatory function. The present study sought to investigate the effects of multipotential human adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells （hAdMSCs） on disease progression and cytokine expression in Lewis rats with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis （EAE） induced by myelin basic protein. The duration of EAE paralysis in the group treated on day 7 posfimmunization with 5 × 10^6 hAdMSCs was significantly reduced compared with the vehicle-treated controls and the 1 x 106 hAdMSC- treated group. The duration of EAE paralysis in the groups treated with 5 × 10^6 hAdMSCs on both day 1 and day 7 postimmunization was significantly reduced compared with the vehicle-treated controls and the groups treated with 5 × 10^6 hAdMSCs on both day 7 and day 10 postimmunization. The mRNA expression of interleukin-10 and indoleamine 2, 3-dioxygenase was significantly decreased in the hAdMSC-treated group compared with the vehicle-treated group. These findings suggest that the ameliorative effects of hAdMSCs on EAE symptoms operate in a dose- and time-dependent manner and can be mediated in part by the ample production of anti-inflammatory cytokines.

AIM To evaluate the short health scale(SHS),a new,simple,four-part visual analogue scale questionnaire that is designed to assess the impact of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)on health-related quality of life(HRQOL),in Korean-speaking patients with *** The SHS was completed by 256 patients with Crohn’s disease(CD)and ulcerative colitis(UC).Individual SHS items were correlated with inflammatory bowel disease questionnaire(IBDQ)dimensions and with disease activity to assess ***-retest reliability,responsiveness and patient or disease characteristics with probable association with high SHS scores were *** Of 256 patients with IBD,139(54.3%)had UC and 117(45.7%)had *** correlation coefficients between SHS questions about"symptom burden","activities of daily living",and"disease-related worry"and their corresponding dimensions in the IBDQ ranged from0.62 to 0.71,compared with correlation coefficients ranging from-0.45 to-0.61 for their non-corresponding *** was a stepwise increase in SHS scores,with increasing disease activity in both CD and UC(all P values<0.001).Reliability was confirmed with test-retest correlations ranging from 0.68 to 0.90(all P values<0.001).Responsiveness was confirmed with the patients who remained in *** SHS scores remained unchanged,except for the SHS dimension"disease-related worry".In the multivariate analysis,female sex was associated with worse"general well-being"(OR=2.28,95%CI:1.02-5.08)along with worse disease *** The SHS is a valid and reliable measure of HRQOL in Korean-speaking patients with IBD.
