Coping Process in Children with Food Allergies Developing during Early Childhood

This study aimed to clarify the coping process in children who developed food allergies in early childhood and evaluate the nursing support required to enable the acquisition of independent care behaviors in children with food allergies. Semi structured interviews were conducted on 24 children (aged 11 - 15 years) with food allergies using the modified grounded theory approach. The 11 categories were identified as coping mechanisms that these children used to deal with their early childhood food allergies. The coping process in children with food allergies involved transition from a stage of viewing their allergy with fear to a stage of considering the allergy as manageable and thus tackling allergens in their own way in the Life model. The process required obtaining peace of mind with support from others. In addition to emphasizing the threat of food allergies and risk aversion behaviors to these children, it is important that nurses also communicate viable proposals for alternative behaviors for the prohibited actions. The results also suggest that children in school age or older require support to help them recognize food allergy-related issues as problem-oriented coping tasks from the viewpoint of both Medical and Life models.

Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is an X-linked inherited metabolic disease associated with the accumulation of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFA) in the nervous system, adrenal cortex, and testes. At least seven phenotypes can be distinguished, which are Addison only, childhood, adolescent and adult cerebral ALD, adrenomyeloneuropathy (AMN), and symptomatic or asymptomatic carriers. Children most often develop rapidly a progressive cerebral disease, whereas adults rarely develop a cerebral disease. The majority of adult-onset ALD patients are AMN. The prognosis of ALD remains unpredictable in individual patients. Family history can be very informative. The plasma VLCFA assay permits precise diagnosis. Specific changes on brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) can have diagnostic utility. However, there is considerable overlap among adult-onset leukodystrophies. Adult onset form of cerebral X-linked ALD (AOCALD) is a rare disease. The disease progresses rapidly with widespread demyelination of the cerebral hemispheres. AOCALD is an important differential diagnosis for adults with psychiatric symptoms and progressive cognitive changes. In this article, we review on case reports of AOCALD.

The APEC （Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation） LCMT （Low-Carbon Model Town） project was initiated in 2011 as apart of APEC＇s energy cooperation scheme in response to the rapid urbanization and growing fossil energy use in the developingeconomies of the APEC region. The LCMT project has conducted feasibility studies and policy reviews for a case town eachyear and developed and refined the ＂Concept of Low-Carbon Town in the APEC region （Concept）＂. The Concept is a guidebookfor city planners and developers who wish to implement low-carbon town design. In tandem with the Concept, the ＂APECLow-Carbon Town Indicator （LCT-I） System＂ has been developed since 2013. The LCT-I System is a self-assessment tool to assessand monitor the progress of each low-carbon town development project in the APEC region. The first edition of the LCT-I SystemGuideline and its evaluation sheet were published together with the final edition of the Concept in 2016. The LCMT project ismoving into the dissemination stage beginning in 2017 through the utilization of the LCT-I System. This paper explains the processof the development of the LCT-I System, provides a brief summary and discusses its expected role in the spread of low-carbontowns.

Expression and Localization of NANOS1 in Spermatogenic Cells during Spermatogenesis in Rat

Expression and localization of NANOS1 in the spermatogenic cells of rat testis were studied by immunofluorescence and immunoelectron microscopy. Using immunofluorescence techniques, NANOS1 was localized in the cytoplasm and discrete granules of spermatocytes and spermatids. The staining intensity of NANOS1 signal varied depending upon the stage of the cycle of seminiferous epithelium. Double immunofluorescence staining with antibodies against NANOS1 and DDX4 showed that several DDX4-positive compartments of nuage were also stained for NONOS1. Immunoelectron microscopy revealed that the major subcellular localization sites for NANOS1 were the chromatoid body (CB) and satellite body (SB), and the minor sites were the rest of the nuage compartments, including the irregularly-shaped perinuclear granules (ISPG), and intermitochondrial cement (IMC). Non-nuage structures such as mitochondria-associated granules (MAG), granulated body (GB), and reticulated body (RB) were also labeled by theNANOS1 antibody. In addition, NANOS1 was found in the outer dense fibers of flagella of spermatids at steps 12-19, and in the head cap of late spermatids after step 15. These results suggest that NANOS1 is one of the nuage proteins and functions mainly in the CBs as well as in the cytoplasm. NANOS1 may also have additional functions in non-nuage structures such as MAGs, GBs and RBs.

Rare histological subtype of invasive micropapillary carcinoma in the ampulla of Vater: A case report

BACKGROUND Carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater is an uncommon ampullo-pancreatobiliary neoplasm,and the most common histological type is adenocarcinoma with a tubular growth *** micropapillary carcinoma(IMPC)is an aggressive variant of adenocarcinoma in several organs that is associated with lymph node metastasis and poor *** was first described as a histological subtype of breast cancer;however,IMPC of the ampulla of Vater is extremely rare,with only three articles reported in the English *** SUMMARY We have reported a case of IMPC of the ampulla of Vater in an 80-year-old ***,the surface area of the carcinoma was composed of tubulopapillary structures mimicking intra-ampullary papillary-tubular neoplasm,and the deep invasive front area exhibited a pattern of *** carcinoma showed lymphatic invasion and extensive lymph node *** immunohistochemical study revealed mixed intestinal and gastric/pancreatobiliary *** This rare subtype tumor in the ampulla of Vater showed a histologically mixed phenotype and exhibited aggressive behavior.

Nurses' and students' perception of risk from medical practices

Objectives: To determine the risk perceptions of a series of medical practices in non-expert (un-dergraduates) and expert (nurses) ***: Four hundred and forty-seven nurses and 246 undergraduate students participated in this study. They all answered questionnaires about the risk dimensions and acceptance for medical practices. Results: An exploratory factor analysis on participants' answers to various dimensions of risk yielded a two-factor structure for risk perception in both samples: for nurses, the factors were"Unknown"and"Dread,"while for students, they were"Dread"and"Lack of Independence."For both nurses and stu-dents, the factor scores of Dread negatively related to individual risk acceptance of medical practices. Furthermore, nurses tended to be more accepting of practices that they knew well (i.e., low Unknown scale scores). For students, the subscale scores of the Lack of Independence factor negatively related to individual risk acceptance only for health examination practices. Nurses conceived risks more correctly and concretely compared to students. This was especially pronounced for practices related to medication use. Conclusions: Although both nurses and students conceived various risk contents from medical practices, their conceptions still differed. Knowledge of these differences in the structure of risk perception and conceived risk contents of various medical practices between nurses and students could be utilized to improve risk communication in clinical practice.

Terahertz(THz) absorption spectra have been applied to measure the compositions of amino acid samples. Because the concentration information about a specific composition is involved in its spectrum, keeping the spectrum length and dynamic range as wide as possible is essential for precise measurements. It is well known that a spectrum is always contaminated by apparatus noises. In this paper, we present a criterion for noise cutting based on wavelet transform, which usually extends the range determined by traditional threshold criterion. Finally, the improvement on measurement precision shows the validity of the new criterion.

She can use myoelectric prosthesis in her daily living now. I willreport this case.

The association between disorders of thyroid function and psychiatric symptoms is well established. Generally, hypo-thyroidism is recognized as being able to induce psychotic symptoms. However, psychotic symptoms without affective and cognitive disturbances are rare in hyperthyroidism. We presented a patient with Graves’ disease who suffered from delusions and hallucinations without affective and cognitive disturbances following abrupt normalization of thyroid function. Furthermore, the patient was clinically and biochemically euthyroid when the psychotic symptoms developed. There was resolution of psychotic symptoms in this case. It is suggested that the abrupt change of thyroxine may cause susceptible individuals to become transient psychotic state.
