Antioxidant and anti-HepG2 cell activities of a novel bioactive peptide from cowhide collagen in vitro

In the present study,the antioxidant and anti-human liver cancer(HepG2)cells effects of bioactive peptides from cowhide collagen(BPCC)were evaluated.BPCC exhibited significant scavenging effect on l,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)radicals((60.09±3.51)%),2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)(ABTS)radicals((77.40±3.10)%)and hydroxyl radicals((56.00±2.30)%)as well as strong reducing power(0.320士0.025).Meanwhile,BPCC effectively protected biomacromolecules including proteins,lipids and DNA from oxidative damage induced by Cu^(2+)H_(2)O_(2)and 2,2'-azobis(2-methylpropionamidine)dihydrochloride(AAPH).Moreover,BPCC significantly inhibited cell viability of HepG2 cells in a dose-dependent manner with an estimated IC_(50)of 7.61 mg/mL.The results of 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole(DAPI)and acridine:orange/ethidium bromide(AO/EB)staining demonstrated the apoptotic morphological changes and cell mediated death in BPCC treated HepG2 cells.In addition,BPCC induced decrease of mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP)in HepG2 cells.Therefore,the present finding proved that BPCC encompasses significant antioxidant activity and anticancer property on HepG2 cells and can be used as alternative food antioxidants for cancer prevention benefits.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal malignant tumors in the world.Despite advances in diagnosis and treatment,the five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer patients remains only 9%.1 Pancreatic adenocarcinoma(PAAD)belongs to pancreatic cancer,which occupies 85%of the whole pancreatic cancer.2 Reversible modification of Ne-methyladenosine(mA)has been shown to be involved in cancer progression,resulting in up-regulation of oncogene expression or down-regulation of tumor-suppressing genes and may affect the prognosis of patients with pancreatic cancer.

Dear Editor,,Foxtail millet(Setaria italica)and its wild ancestor green foxtail(S.viridis),are two C4 genetic model plants known for their desirable traits,such as small size,short life cycle,ease of transformation,and a compact genome size(~420 Mb)(He et al.,2023).Foxtail millet stands out as the only cultivated species within the Setaria genus.As a foundational crop for ancient east Asian agriculture civilization,it possesses remarkable drought and soil-nutrient deficiency tolerance.

Electrochemical carbon dioxide reduction reaction(CO_(2)RR)provides a promising way to convert CO_(2)to chemicals.The multicarbon(C_(2+))products,especially ethylene,are of great interest due to their versatile industrial applications.However,selectively reducing CO_(2)to ethylene is still challenging as the additional energy required for the C–C coupling step results in large overpotential and many competing products.Nonetheless,mechanistic understanding of the key steps and preferred reaction pathways/conditions,as well as rational design of novel catalysts for ethylene production have been regarded as promising approaches to achieving the highly efficient and selective CO_(2)RR.In this review,we first illustrate the key steps for CO_(2)RR to ethylene(e.g.,CO_(2)adsorption/activation,formation of~*CO intermediate,C–C coupling step),offering mechanistic understanding of CO_(2)RR conversion to ethylene.Then the alternative reaction pathways and conditions for the formation of ethylene and competitive products(C_1 and other C_(2+)products)are investigated,guiding the further design and development of preferred conditions for ethylene generation.Engineering strategies of Cu-based catalysts for CO_(2)RR-ethylene are further summarized,and the correlations of reaction mechanism/pathways,engineering strategies and selectivity are elaborated.Finally,major challenges and perspectives in the research area of CO_(2)RR are proposed for future development and practical applications.

Due to larger atom utilization,unique electronic properties and unsaturated coordination,atomically dispersed non-precious metal catalysts with outstanding performances have received great attention in electrocatalysis.Considering the challenge of serious aggregation,rational synthesis of an atomic catalyst with good dispersion of atoms is paramount to the development of these catalysts.Herein,we report an enhanced confinement strategy to synthesize a catalyst comprised of atomically dispersed Fe supported on porous nitrogen-doped graphitic carbon from the novel and more cross-linkable Melamine-Glyoxal Resin.Densified isolated grid trapping,excessive melamine restricting,and nitrogen anchoring are strongly combined to ensure the final atomic-level dispersion of metal atoms.Experimental studies revealed enhanced kinetics of the obtained catalyst towards oxygen reduction reaction(ORR).This catalytic activity originates from the highly active surface with atomically dispersed iron sites as well as the multi-level three-dimensional structure with fast mass and electron transfer.The enhanced confinement strategy endows the resin-derived atomic catalyst with a great prospect to develop for commercialization in future.

Ischemic stroke(IS)represents a significant threat to brain health due to its elevated mortality and disability rates.The efficacy of small-molecule neuroprotective agents has been impeded by challenges associated with traversing the blood-brain barrier(BBB)and limited bioavailability.Conversely,advanced nano drug delivery systems hold promise for overcoming these obstacles by facilitating efficient transportation across the BBB and maintaining optimal drug concentrations.This review aims to explore advanced neuroprotective nano drug delivery systems as a means of effectively administering neuroprotective agents to the brain using pharmaceutical approaches in the treatment of IS.By examining these systems,researchers and clinicians can gain valuable insights and innovative concepts,illuminating the potential of advanced neuroprotective nano drug delivery systems.Leveraging these advancements can drive the progress of pioneering and efficacious therapeutic interventions for IS.

Past hydroclimatic conditions in southern China are poorly constrained owing to the lack of high-resolution marine-sediment records. In this study, we present high-resolution geochemical and grain-size records of marine sediments from the coastal shelf of the northern South China Sea to investigate regional hydrological variations.Results suggest a warm and humid climate during the interval 9 200–7 600 cal a BP, followed by a cold and dry climate from 7 600 cal a BP to 6 500 cal a BP, and progressive humidification during the period 6 500–6 200 cal a BP.A prominent hydrological anomaly occurred during 7 600–6 500 cal a BP. This abrupt event corresponds closely to tropical Pacific and interhemispheric temperature gradients, suggesting that moisture variations in southern China may have been driven by interhemispheric and zonal Pacific temperature gradients via modulation of the intensity and location of the West Pacific subtropical high.

Backgroup:Currently,aromatherapy is being increasingly utilized in clinical practice,particularly in managing the side effects associated with radiotherapy and chemoradiotherapy.However,it remains to be established whether aromatherapy can effectively alleviate these symptoms.Objective:To investigate the effects of aromatherapy on the physical and mental health of patients with cancer undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy.Methods:Seven databases were researched from inception until September 29,2023,including PubMed,Scopus,and Web of Science,Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure,Wanfang database,China Biology Medicine disc and VIP Chinese Medical Journal Database.Review Manager version 5.3 was utilized for data analysis.The Cochrane Risk of Bias tool RoB2 was employed to evaluate the quality of the literature included in the study.Evidence quality rating was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development,and Evaluation(GRADE) approach through the GRADEpro GDT online tool.Results:Nineteen studies involving 1,541 patients were included.Aromatherapy can alleviate nausea [relative risk(RR)=0.64,95% confidence interval(CI):0.53 to 0.78,Pxiety.The risk of bias was high in the included studies using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool RoB2,and no studies were considered to be of high grade according to the GRADE system.Conclusions:Aromatherapy is an efficacious,safe and economic adjunctive therapy for cancer patien
