Three-dimensional numerical analysis of plant-soil hydraulic interactions on pore water pressure of vegetated slope under different rainfall patterns

Understanding the pore water pressure distribution in unsaturated soil is crucial in predicting shallow landslides triggered by rainfall,mainly when deal.ng with different temporal patterns of rainfall ***,the hydrological response of vegetated slopes,especially three-dimensional(3D)slopes covered with shrubs,under different rainfall patterns remains unclear and requires further *** address this issue,this study adopts a novel 3D numerical model for simulating hydraulic interactions between the root system of the shrub and the surrounding *** series of numerical parametric studies are conducted to investigate the influences of slope inclination,rainfall pattern and rainfall *** rainfall patterns(advanced,bimodal,delayed,and uniform)and two rainfall durations(4-h intense and 168-h mild rainfall)are considered to study the hydrological response of the *** computed results show that 17%higher transpiration-induced suction is found for a steeper slope,which remains even after a short,intense rainfall with a 100-year return *** extreme rainfalls with advanced(PA),bimodal(PB)and uniform(PU)rainfall patterns need to be considered for the short rainfall duration(4 h),while the delayed(PD)and uniform(PU)rainfall patterns are highly recommended for l.ng rainfall durations(168 h).The presence of plants can improve slope stability markedly under extreme rainfall with a short duration(4 h).For the l.ng duration(168 h),the benefit of the plant in preserving pore-water pressure(PWP)and slope stability may not be sufficient.

Enhanced bright green luminescence from GdOF:Ho^(3+) up-conversion phosphor via Yb^(3+) doping

In this paper,a series of GdOF-based green phosphors doped with Ho^(3+) and Yb^(3+) ions was prepared by a simple co-precipitation *** crystal structure s and optical prope rties were investigated in *** intensity of the emission of GdOF:Yb^(3+),Ho^(3+) phosphors is enhanced by the effective energy transfer from Yb^(3+) to Ho^(3+),and the optimal luminescence is achieved with the Ho^(3+)doping amount of 0.1 mol%as well as Yb^(3+) doping amount of 5 mol%.Tunable UC emission of samples is achieved by adjusting the doping concentration of Ho^(3+) or Yb^(3+).The purity of the green UC emission is further improved by enhancing the excitation pumping *** addition,logarithmic functions of green,red and nearinfrared radiation intensities were calculated versus logarithmic function of pump power for further study.A possible UC luminescence mechanism between Yb^(3+) and Ho^(3+) is discussed based on powerdependent UC luminescence spectrum and decay *** results suggest that GdOF:Yb^(3+),Ho^(3+)phosphors with bright and high-purity green UC emission have potential applications in the fields of bioimaging,display and illumination.

Formaldehyde is a common atmospheric pollutant produced in industrial production and daily ***,the traditional semiconductor formaldehyde gas sensor cannot work at room temperature,which limits its practical ***,developing high-performance gas sensors for rapidly and accurately detecting formaldehyde at room temperature is an important *** this study,Ti_(3)C_(2)Tx/SnO_(2)heterostructures were constructed,which could selectively detect formaldehyde at room temperature with a response value of 29.16%(10×10^(-6)).In addition,the sensor shows a remarkable theoretical detection limit of 5.09×10^(-9)and good l.ngterm *** functional theory(DFT)simulations reveal that SnO_(2)nano spheres provide the majority of adsorption sites that strongly interact with ***,Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)acting as a conductive layer facilitates the transfer of charge carriers so that they show a sensing response to formaldehyde at room ***,the formation of p-n heterostructures between SnO_(2)and Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)boosts the Schottky barrier at the interface,which is the critical factor in enhancing the sensing properties by turning the Schottky barrier upon introducing formaldehyde *** perspective is expected to provide instructive guidance for utilizing MXene/metal oxide nanocomposites to improve the gas sensing performance at room temperature.

A scalable one-pot strategy for the development of polymer electrolytes adaptable to room-temperature high-voltage lithium batteries

Poly(ethylene oxide)(PEO)polymer electrolytes(PEs)have been commercially applied in liFePO_(4)||li solid-state lithium batteries(SSlBs).However,it remains chall.nging to develop PEO-based PEs applicable to the high-voltage SSlBs with higher energy density,owing to the poor electrochemical stability of ***,we report a scalable strategy for fabricating PEO-based PEs with high-voltage compatibility,by exploiting a new mechanism to stabilize the cathode-electrolyte interface in the highvoltage *** protocol only involves a one-pot synthesis procedure to covalently crosslink the PEO chains,in the presence of high-content lithium bis(trifluoromethylsulphonyl)imide(liTFSI)salts and N,N-dimethylformamide(DMF).liTFSI-DMF supramolecular aggregates are formed and firmly embedded in the polymer network,endowing the PE with high room-temperature ionic *** dissociated and highly concentrated TFSI^-anions can enter the Helmholtz layer close to the high-voltage cathode,leading to the formation of a thin and homogeneous cathode electrolyte interface(CEI),mainly composed of liF,on the *** CEI with high electrochemical stability can effectively stabilize the cathode-electrolyte interface,enabl.ng l.ng-term stable cycl.ng of the high-voltage liCoO_(2)||li and nickelrich NCM_(622)||li batteries at room *** simplicity and scalability of the strategy makes the reported PEO-based PE potentially applicable in high-voltage SSlBs in practice.

Efficient electrocatalytic reduction of nitrate to ammonia at low concentration by copper-cobalt oxide nanowires with shell-core structure

Modell.ng the water diversion of a sustainable cover system under humid climates

Extreme rainfall significantly threatens the safety of the landfill cover system,especially under humid *** study aims to provide design recommendations for a sustainable landfill cover system consisting of a low-permeability soil layer underlying a two-layer capillary barrier for humid ***,the numerical back-analysis was conducted for verification against a series of flume model ***,a parametric study was performed to investigate the effects of inclination angle,particle size and layer thickness on the lateral diversion l.ngth(Dl)of the three-layer cover system under the 100-year return period rainfall of humid *** results show that the water lateral Dl of the cover system can be greatly enhanced by increasing the inclination angle from 3°to 18°.Moreover,the bottom layer of the cover system with a coarser d10 was more susceptible to the impact of the heavy rainfall,while this can be alleviated by increasing the thickness of the bottom layer.A dimensionless number,defined as the ratio of thickness and d_(10) of the bottom layer,is proposed for designing lateral diversion of the three-layer cover system under humid *** preserve the maximum Dl,it is suggested that the proposed dimensionless number should be larger than 95 and 110 for the design of rainfall events with 50-year and 100-year return periods for humid climates,respectively.

Three-year field study on grass growth and soil hydrological properties in biochar-amended soil

Field monitoring was conducted to investigate and quantify the l.ng-term effects of peanut shell biochar on soil-grass interaction over three *** 10 m5 m grassed plots were constructed in completely decomposed granitic *** of them were amended,respectively,with 5%and 10%biochar contents(m^(3)/m^(3))for grass growth,while the third was without biochar *** the threeyear monitoring,plant characteristics,saturated water permeability(k_(s))of grassed soil and soil suction were *** monitored results show that the grass leaf area index(lAI)and root l.ngth density(RlD)with biochar amendment were improved by 38%and 200%,*** the grassed plot without biochar,a threshold RlD existed with a value of 1.7 cm/cm^(3),beyond which k_(s) raised *** threshold RlD increased by 52%when biochar content increased from 0%to 10%.This implies that biochar may restrict the increase in k_(s) of grassed soil due to the rise in the threshold *** presence of biochar and grass can retain over 100%higher suction after heavy rainfalls,while 54%lower peak suction under evapotranspiration(ET)compared with the non-amended *** can alleviate the negative effects on hydraulic properties caused by plant growth and reduce ET-induced excessive water loss.A 5%peanut shell biochar content is recommended for the l.ng-term management of vegetated earthen infrastructures.

Highly selective and eco-friendly dihydroisoquinoline synthesis via Cu/Co synergistic catalysis in Cu NPs@MOFs catalyst under mild conditions

3,4-Dihydroisoquinoline(DHIQ)is an important precursor used in the production of drugs for treating cancer,HIV,Alzheimer's disease,*** studies on DHIQ synthesis show low catalytic selectivity due to the susceptible over-oxidation feedstock of1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline(THIQ),which often requires alkali ***,it is desirable yet chall.nging to explore a highly selective and efficient oxydehydrogenation capacity for DHIQ synthesis under eco-friendly reaction ***,a novel framework 1 was synthesized,exhibiting 1D channels with the size of 4.6 A×9.6 A and high solvent/p H/thermal stability.A stable framework allows it to encapsulate Cu nanoparticles(NPs)to form Cu NPs@1-x(x=1,2,3,and 4)with varying loading amounts of Cu NPs at 2.0 wt%,3.0 wt%,4.0 wt%,and 6.0 wt%,*** NPs@1-3 could selectively catalyze the reaction from THIQ to DHIQ with a high selectivity of 98%and a recorded turnover frequency(TOF)of 22.1 h-1under eco-friendly mild *** corresponding catalytic activity can maintain at least five recycl.ngs and can be further applied to gram-scale ***,the efficient preparation of DHIQ catalyzed by Cu NPs@1-3 could be realized even under air ***,the anticancer molecule precursor synthesis of 6,7-dimethoxy-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline was also selectively catalyzed by Cu NPs@*** investigations revealed that high catalytic performance can be attributed to the stable framework and the synergistic catalytic effect of the loaded Cu NPs and Co metal *** importantly,this work represents the first example of MOF catalysts for selectively thermo-catalytic DHIQ synthesis and demonstrates a simple approach to obtain efficient catalysts for selective oxydehydrogenation in the production of unsaturated compounds.
