Clinical manifestations of respiratory syncytial virus infection and the risk of wheezing and recurrent wheezing illness:a systematic review and meta‑analysis

Background Respiratory syncytial virus(RSV)infection in infants is a global health *** aimed to investigate the common manifestations of RSV infection by age group and human development index(HDI)level and to assess its association with the development of wheezing and recurrent wheezing *** We searched the literature published between January 1,2010 and June 2,2022 in seven *** included common manifestations and long-term respiratory outcomes of RSV infection in ***-and fixed-effect models were used to estimate the effect size and their 95%confidence *** analysis was conducted by age and HDI *** review was registered in PROSPERO(CRD42022379401).Results The meta-analysis included 47 *** top five manifestations were cough(92%),nasal congestion(58%),rhinorrhea(53%),shortness of breath(50%),and dyspnea(47%).The clinical symptoms were most severe in *** our analysis,compared to very high and high HDI countries,fewer studies in medium HDI countries reported related manifestations,and no study in low HDI countries reported *** RSV-infected infants were more likely to develop wheezing than the non-infected infants[odds ratio(OR),3.12;95%CI,2.59–3.76]and had a higher risk of developing wheezing illnesses after recovery(OR,2.60;95%CI,2.51–2.70).Conclusions Cough and shortness of breath are common manifestations of RSV *** attention should be given to infants and areas with low HDI *** current findings confirm an association between RSV infection and wheezing or recurrent wheezing illness.

Plants that grow in extreme environments represent unique sources of stress-resistance genes and *** mongolicus(Leguminosae)is a xerophytic evergreen broadleaf shrub native to semi-arid and desert regions;however,its drought-tolerance mechanisms remain poorly ***,we report the assembly of a reference-grade genome for ***,describe its evolutionary history within the legume family,and examine its drought-tolerance *** assembled genome is 843.07 Mb in length,with 98.7%of the sequences successfully anchored to the nine chromosomes of *** genome is predicted to contain 47611 protein-coding genes,and 70.71%of the genome is composed of repetitive sequences;these are dominated by transposable elements,particularly longterminal-repeat *** analyses revealed two whole-genome duplication(WGD)events at 130 and 58 million years ago(mya)that are shared by the genus Ammopiptanthus and other legumes,but no species-specific WGDs were found within this *** genome reconstruction revealed that the *** genome has undergone fewer rearrangements than other genomes in the legume family,confirming its status as a"relict plant".Transcriptomic analyses demonstrated that genes involved in cuticular wax biosynthesis and transport are highly expressed,both under normal conditions and in response to polyethylene glycol-induced *** induction of genes related to ethylene biosynthesis and signaling was also observed in leaves under dehydration stress,suggesting that enhanced ethylene response and formation of thick waxy cuticles are two major mechanisms of drought tolerance in *** expression of AmERF2,an ethylene response factor unique to ***,can markedly increase the drought tolerance of transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana plants,demonstrating the potential for application of *** genes in crop improvement.

Targeting capabilities of engineered extracellular vesicles for the treatment of neurological diseases

Reversal of hyperglycemia by protein transduction of NeuroD in vivo

Aim:To test whether the neurogenic differentiation(NeuroD)protein could alle-viate symptoms of diabetes mellitus by its transduction activity in ***:Type 1 diabetes mellitus in mice was induced by ip(intraperitoneal)injection ofstreptozotocin(150 mg/kg).One group of diabetic mice were intravenouslyinjected with the NeuroD-EGFP(Enhanced Green Fluorescent Protein)(5 mg/kg,n=6)and the other group with EGFP(5 mg/kg,n=5).After the transduction ofNeuroD-EGFP,the distribution of the protein was examined by means of frozensection under fluorescent microscope *** conducted RT-PCR andReal-time quantitative PCR to measure the transcription levels of insulin *** was utilized to detect the insulin ***-noassay was conducted to determine the serum insulin *** glucoselevels and body weights were regularly recorded after the protein ***:The NeuroD protein can be transduced into cells in vivo with a highefficiency of nearly 100%.Insulin mRNA was highly expressed in NeuroD-treateddiabetic mice,38-fold higher than that of control group(P<0.05).Immunohis-tochemistry revealed enteric insulin expression in the NeuroD-treated *** fasting serum insulin level of the NeuroD-EGFP group(n=6)was 337±39pg/mL,significantly higher than that of the control diabetic mice(n=5)which was84+23 pg/mL(P<0.01,t-test).Records of blood glucose level also displayed alle-viation of hyperglycemia after NeuroD administration(P<0.01,t-test,n=6).Conclusion:In vivo-transduced NeuroD in the small intestine remained function-ally active and could ameliorate the non-fasting glucose levels of streptozotocin-induced,diabetic mice by inducing enteric insulin expression.

Palaeowind reconstruction from Lower Cretaceous wavedominated depositional records of the Tanan Depression,Northeast Asia

Palaeowind regime is an important component for reconstructing palaeoclimate and understanding ancient global *** applied the beach-ridge thickness technique(BTT)and the longshore-bar thickness technique(LTT)to reconstruct the Early Cretaceous palaeowind velocities based on depositional records of Tanan Depression in Northeast *** thickness of beach ridges and nearshore bars is the most important parameter for applying the BTT and the LTT *** identified 22 beach ridges and 23 nearshore bars based on drilling cores and wireline-log data in the Tanan *** velocities calculated by using the LTT method ranged from 10.84 to 13.66 m/s,showing a narrower range than those calculated by using the BTT method(7.58–15.93 m/s).We further analyzed the underlying factors causing the difference between the results derived from these two methods based on the sedimentary process of the beach ridge and the nearshore *** reconstructed wind regime was assumed to be the summer monsoon originating from the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean before it had been completely enclosed,which provides valuable insight into the understanding of the atmospheric circulation in Northeast Asia during the Early Cretaceous.

Climate changes drive phytoplankton community through complementarity and selection effects in a large mesotrophic reservoir

Understanding the response of the phytoplankton community to climate change is essential for reservoir *** analyzed a long-term data series(2009–2020)on the phytoplankton community in a large mesotrophic reservoir in the wet season to investigate the impacts of temperature and precipitation increases caused by climate change on the functioning and trait composition of the phytoplankton *** the last twelve years,the 3-month accumulative precipitation increased from 291.03 mm to 590.91 mm,and the surface water temperature increased from 25.06℃to 26.49℃in wet season,*** changes caused a higher water level,stronger thermal stratification and lower nitrogen concentration in Daxi *** dynamic equilibrium model indicated that the increased precipitation and water temperature-related environmental changes would result in a more diverse and productive phytoplankton *** effects of increasing water temperature and precipitation on the niche complementarity and selection effects within the phytoplankton community were analyzed using structural equation model by means of the functional divergence index and functional evenness index,respectively,elucidating the reasons for the increase in cyanobacteria in the absence of a significant increase in nutrient *** on these results,it is advisable that more stringent phosphorus control standards might be conducted to reduce the risks of cyanobacteria proliferation in the context of global warming.

Tianxiangdan(TXD) alleviates myocardial ischemia reperfusion-induced ferroptosis through the activation of estrogen receptor alpha(ERα)

Tianxiangdan（TXD）, a traditional Chinese herbal remedy, demonstrates efficacy in mitigating myocardial ischemia-reperfusion（I/R）-induced damage. This study employed network pharmacology to evaluate the therapeutic targets and mechanisms of TXD in treating I/R. Highperformance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry（HPLC-MS） identified 86 compounds in TXD. Network pharmacological analysis predicted potential target genes and their modes of action. Cardiac function, ischaemic ST changes, lactate dehydrogenase（LDH）,malondialdehyde（MDA）, superoxide dismutase（SOD） activity, myocardial fiber, and infarct size were assessed using in vivo and in vitro I/R injury models. Estrogen receptor alpha（ERα）protein expression and estradiol（E2） levels were measured to confirm TXD's impact on estrogen levels and ERα expression. To examine if TXD reduces I/R injury through ERα, an AZD group(300 nmol·L-1AZD9496 and 15% TXD serum) was compared to a TXD group（15% TXD serum）. The study hypothesized that TXD upregulates the ERα-mediated iron metamorphosis pathway. I/R injury-induced ferroptosis was identified using a Fer-1 group(1.0 μmol·L-1Fer-1 and 15% TXD serum) to elucidate the potential association between ferroptosis and ERαproteins. A DCFH-DA probe detected reactive oxygen species（ROS） and Fe2+, while Western blotting assessed target protein expression. Both in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that TXD attenuated I/R injury by reducing elevated ST-segment levels, improving cardiac injury biomarkers（LDH, MDA, and SOD）, alleviating pathological features, and preventing I/R-induced loss of cell viability in vitro. The effects and mechanisms of TXD on I/R injury-associated ferroptosis were investigated using I/R-induced H9c2 cells. The TXD group showed significantly decreased ROS and Fe2+levels, while the AZ group（treated with AZD9496） exhibited increased levels. Intrinsic stretchability is a promising attribute of polymer organic solar cells(OSCs).However,rigid molecular blocks typically exhibit poor tensile properties,rendering polymers vulnerable to mechanical *** this study,we introduce a different approach utilizing all-small-molecule donors and acceptors to fabricate stretchable *** elastomer,styrene-b-ethylene-butylene-styrene(SEBS),was embedded to modulate film crystallization and *** effectively confines the growth process of donors and acceptors,leading to enhancement of the crystallization quality,thus contributing to enhanced device ***,SEBS can absorb and release mechanical stress during stretching,thereby preventing mechanical degradation of donors and *** mechanical properties of the OSCs were significantly improved by the incorporation of ***,the crack-onset strain increased from 1.03% to 5.99% with SEBS *** findings present a straightforward strategy for achieving stretchable OSCs using all small molecules,offering a different perspective for realizing stretchable devices.
