Atherosclerosis(AS)is characterized by impairment and apoptosis of endothelial cells,continuous systemic and focal inflammation and dysfunction of vascular smooth muscle cells,which is documented as the traditional cellular paradigm.However,the mechanisms appear much more complicated than we thought since a bulk of studies on efferocytosis,transdifferentiation and novel cell death forms such as ferroptosis,pyroptosis,and extracellular trap were reported.Discovery of novel pathological cellular landscapes provides a large number of therapeutic targets.On the other side,the unsatisfactory therapeutic effects of current treatment with lipid-lowering drugs as the cornerstone also restricts the efforts to reduce global AS burden.Stem cell-or nanoparticle-based strategies spurred a lot of attention due to the attractive therapeutic effects and minimized adverse effects.Given the complexity of pathological changes of AS,attempts to develop an almighty medicine based on single mechanisms could be theoretically challenging.In this review,the top stories in the cellular landscapes during the initiation and progression of AS and the therapies were summarized in an integrated perspective to facilitate efforts to develop a multi-targets strategy and fill the gap between mechanism research and clinical translation.The future challenges and improvements were also discussed.

Background Proton pump inhibitors(PPIs) are recommended by the latest guidelines to reduce the risk of bleeding in acute myocardial infarction(AMI) patients treated with dual antiplatelet therapy(DAPT). However, previous pharmacodynamic and clinical studies have reported controversial results on the interaction between PPI and the P2 Y12 inhibitor clopidogrel. We investigated the impact of PPIs use on in-hospital outcomes in AMI patients, aiming to provide a new insight on the value of PPIs. Methods A total of 23,380 consecutive AMI patients who received clopidogrel with or without PPIs in the China Acute Myocardial Infarction(CAMI) registry were analyzed. The primary endpoint was major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events(MACCE) defined as a composite of in-hospital cardiac death, re-infarction and stroke. Propensity score matching(PSM) was used to control potential baseline confounders. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to evaluate the effect of PPIs use on MACCE and gastrointestinal bleeding(GIB). Results Among the whole AMI population, a large majority received DAPT and 67.5% were co-medicated with PPIs. PPIs use was associated with a decreased risk of MACCE(Before PSM OR: 0.857, 95% CI: 0.742-0.990, P = 0.0359;after PSM OR: 0.862, 95% CI: 0.768-0.949, P = 0.0245) after multivariate adjustment. Patients receiving PPIs also had a lower risk of cardiac death but a higher risk of complicating with stroke. When GIB occurred, an alleviating trend of GIB severity was observed in PPIs group. Conclusions Our study is the first nation-wide large-scale study to show evidence on PPIs use in AMI patients treated with DAPT. We found that PPIs in combination with clopidogrel was associated with decreased risk for MACCE in AMI patients, and it might have a trend to mitigate GIB severity. Therefore, PPIs could become an available choice for AMI patients during hospitalization.

Background:Patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI)who present without typical chest pain are associated with a poor outcome.However,whether angiographic characteristics are related to a higher risk of mortality in this population is unclear.This study aimed to investigate whether the higher mortality risk in patients with STEMI without chest pain could be explained by their"high-risk"angiographic characteristics.Methods:We used data of 12,145 patients with STEMI who was registered in China Acute Myocardial Infarction registry from January 2013 to September 2014.We compared the infarct-related artery(IRA),thrombolysis in myocardial infarction(TIMI)flow grade in the IRA,and other angiographic characteristics between patients without and those with chest pain.Multivariable logistic regression model was used to identify independent risk factor of in-hospital mortality.Results:The 2922(24.1%)patients with STEMI presented without typical chest pain.These patients had a higher TIMI flow grade(mean TIMI flow grade:1.00 vs.0.94,P=0.02)and a lower rate of IRA disease of the left anterior descending artery(44.6%vs.51.2%,χ^2=35.63,P<0.01)than did those with typical chest pain.Patients without chest pain were older,more likely to have diabetes,longer time to hospital and higher Killip classification,and less likely to receive optimal medication treatment and primary percutaneous coronary intervention and higher In-hospital mortality(3.3%vs.2.2%,χ^2=10.57,P<0.01).After adjusting for multi-variables,presentation without chest pain was still an independent predictor of in-hospital death among patients with STEMI(adjusted odds ratio:1.36,95%confidence interval:1.02–1.83).Conclusions:Presentation without chest pain is common and associated with a higher in-hospital mortality risk in patients with acute myocardial infarction.Our results indicate that their poor prognosis is associated with baseline patient characteristics and delayed treatment,but not angiographic lesion characteristics.Clinical trial regist

Background: Approximately 70% patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) presented without ST-segment elevation on electrocardiogram. Patients with non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) often presented with atypical symptoms, which may be related to pre-hospital delay and increased risk of mortality. However, up to date few studies reported detailed symptomatology of NSTEMI, particularly among Asian patients. The objective of this study was to describe and compare symptoms and presenting characteristics of NSTEMI vs. STEMI patients. Methods: We enrolled 21,994 patients diagnosed with AMI from China Acute Myocardial Infarction (CAMI) Registry between January 2013 and September 2014. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to ST-segment elevation: ST-segment elevation (STEMI) group and NSTEMI group. We extracted data on patients' characteristics and detailed symptomatology and compared these variables between two groups. Results: Compared with patients with STEMI (N=16,315), those with NSTEMI (N=5679) were older, more often females and more often have comorbidities. Patients with NSTEMI were less likely to present with persistent chest pain (54.3% vs.71.4%), diaphoresis (48.6% vs.70.0%), radiation pain (26.4% vs.33.8%), and more likely to have chest distress (42.4% vs.38.3%) than STEMI patients (all P<0.0001). Patients with NSTEMI were also had longer time to hospital. In multivariable analysis, NSTEMI was independent predictor of presentation without chest pain (odds ratio: 1.974, 95% confidence interval:1.849-2.107). Conclusions: Patients with NSTEMI were more likely to present with chest distress and pre-hospital patient delay compared with patients with STEMI. It is necessary for both clinicians and patients to learn more about atypical symptoms of NSTEMI in order to rapidly recognize myocardial infarction.

Background:It remains unclear whether the outcomes of ST-elevation myocardial infarction(STEMI)patients treated with primary percutaneous coronary intervention(PPCI)during off-hours are as favorable as those treated during on-hours,especially those with a first medical contact-to-device(FMC-to-device)time within 90 min.We aimed to determine whether off-hours admission impacted late outcomes in patients undergoing PPCI and with an FMC-to-device timejing from January 2018 to December 2018.Patients were divided into on-hours group and off-hours group based on their arrival time.Baseline characteristics,clinical data,and key time intervals during treatment were collected from the Quality Control&Improvement Center of Cardiovascular Intervention of Beijing by the 4tHeart and Brain Green Channel”app.Results:Overall,the median age of the patients was 58.8 years and 19.9%(133/670)were female.Of these,296(44.2%)patients underwent PPCI during on-hours and 374(55.8%)patients underwent PPCI during off-hours.Compared with the on-hours group,the off-hours group had a longer FMC-to-device time and fewer patients with FMC-to-device time0.05).According to the Cox regression analyses,off-hours admission was not a predictor of 2-year MACEs(P=0.788).Similarly,the Kaplan-Meier curves showed that the risks of a MACE,all-cause death,reinfarction,and target vessel revascularization were not significantly different between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusions:This real-world,multicenter retrospective study demonstrated that for STEMI patients who underwent PPCI within 90 min,off-hours admission was safe,with no difference in the risk of 2-year M

Legumes,unlike most land plants,can form symbiotic root nodules with nitrogen-fixing bacteria to secure nitrogen for growth.The formation of nitrogen-fixing nodules on legume roots requires the coordination of rhizobial infection at the root epidermis with cell division in the cortex.The nodules house the nitrogen-fixing rhizobia in organelle-like structures known as symbiosomes,which enable nitrogen fixation and facilitate the exchange of metabolites between the host and symbionts.In addition to this beneficial interaction,legumes are continuously exposed to would-be pathogenic microbes;therefore the ability to discriminate pathogens from symbionts is a major determinant of plant survival under natural conditions.Here,we summarize recent advances in the understanding of root nodule symbiosis signaling,transcriptional regulation,and regulation of plant immunity during legume-rhizobium symbiosis.In addition,we propose several important questions to be addressed and provide insights into the potential for engineering the capacity to fix nitrogen in legume and nonlegume plants.

With the decline in fish resources worldwide,the ecological dominance and economic importance of crustaceans have obviously increased.Among crustacean species,mantis shrimps are increasingly dominant in many coastal waters of the world.In China,Oratosquilla oratoria is the most widely distributed and productive species of mantis shrimp,and its relative resource density is the highest in the Bohai Sea.In this study,we analysed the long-term and monthly population characteristics of O.oratoria in the Bohai Sea,including its relative resource density,body size and spatial distribution.The results showed that the relative resource density of O.oratoria in the Bohai Sea increased from 3.59 kg/h in 1982 to 14.48 kg/h in 2018,and the percentage of this species that serves as a fishery resource increased from 4.22%in 1982 to 35.27%in 2018,based on the mean relative resource density in May and August.The relative resource density of O.oratoria in the fishing moratorium season from May to August was significantly higher than that in the other months of fishing season,and the relative resource density decreased rapidly after the fishing moratorium ended.The relative resource density of O.oratoria was the highest in summer(August),followed by in autumn(October)and spring(May),and it was the lowest in winter(January).The relative resource density of O.oratoria in the western Bohai Sea was higher than that in the eastern Bohai Sea.The mean body weight of O.oratoria in the Bohai Sea decreased from 21.95 g in 1982 to 14.34 g in 2018,based on the mean body weight in May and August.The body size of O.oratoria in the fishing moratorium season was significantly higher than that in the fishing season,and the body size decreased rapidly after the fishing moratorium ended.Overall,in the context of declining resources of most fishery species,the relative resource density of O.oratoria increased due to its hardiness and adaptability,and its body size decreased under intensive fishing over the past 30 years.The fishing moratorium system h

The development of non-noble-metal hydrogen evolution electrocatalysts holds great promises for a sustainable energy system.Here,a hybrid W(Mo)S_(2)/NW(Mo)C nanosheet with array structures was reported for an efficient light-as sis ted hydrogen evolution electrocatalysts in acidic solutions.The resulting vertically aligned W(Mo)S_(2)/N-W(Mo)C was supported on a conductive carbon fiber paper,which can be produced through annealing W(Mo)S_(2)nanosheets by simultaneous carbonization and N-doping in Ar/H_(2)atmosphere.This optimized WS_(2)/NWC and MoS_(2)/N-MoC electrode exhibits remarkable lightassisted electrocatalysis activity with overpotentials of0.120 and 0.122 V at 10 mA·cm^(-1)in acidic solutions,respectively.Such high hydrogen evolution activities should be attributed to the electrocatalytic synergistic effects of the abundant active sites existing in different phase boundaries and the absorption for ultraviolet-visible light.This study shows that synthesis of low-cost and highly active W(Mo)S_(2)-based hydrogen evolution electrocatalyst opens up a route toward the development of scalable production of hydrogen fuels.

Main observation and conclusion Supramolecular polymer networks(SPNs)have always been the focus of research due to their novel features of good processability,stimuli-responsiveness,self-healing,and recyclability.Herein,we report the preparation of a metallacycle-linked supramolecular gel via orthogonal metal-ligand interactions and host-guest interactions.A triangular metallacycle with three appended 21-crown-7(21C7)units was obtained by the metal coordination of nickel(II)-salen-based dipyridyl ligands and platinum(II)acceptors.The integration of this metallacycle and traditional copolymer bearing secondary ammonium salts constructed a SPN via host-guest recognition between 21C7 units and ammonium salts,and a supramolecular gel further formed at high concentration.Multiple stimulus responsiveness and self-healing properties of gel were observed.The gel exhibited better stretchability compared to relative gel formed by copolymer alone owing to the synergistic effect of covalent bonds and supramolecular interactions.Moreover,compared to the model gel without metallacycles,the gel showed higher storage and loss moduli,and exhibited stronger stiffness in the self-healing tests performed with rheometer,indicating the metallacycle played an important role in improving the stiffness and self-healing of the gel.Therefore,the feasible approach to the formation of SPNs by the marriage of covalent polymers and metallacycles is expected to open a new way to design novel SPNs.

Prolonging the lifetime of batteries is a long-term pursuit,and it is also one of the prerequisites for the practical application of batteries.However,this endeavor is challenging for high-energy Li–O_(2)batteries due to their poor charge efficiency and cathode passivation-induced by-products accumulation.Here,we demonstrated that overcharging Li–O_(2)batteries could facilitate the decomposition of accumulated residue products and revive the cathode;thus,the battery lifespan could be significantly extended.This long battery lifetime not only made full use of the Li anode but also enabled the battery to recycle in a safer way without the risk of firing and explosion.Furthermore,overcharge could be used in Li–O_(2)batteries with high mass loading,high rate,and large capacity.This overcharge strategy simplified the cathode regenerating procedures and realized system-level efficient use of battery components,thereby prolonging the life of Li–O_(2)batteries to meet the requirements of practical applications.
